Sulfur vacancy decreasing work function difference for intensifying hydrogen spillover toward enhanced alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction

In the design of non-Pt hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts, synthesizing metal-support catalyst is a promising method to boost catalytic efficiency of HER. However, this application faces limitations due to the significant difference in work function (ΔΦ) between the metal and the support. This large disparity hinders effective hydrogen spillover at the interface, ultimately reducing the efficiency of the hydrogen evolution process. Therefore, it is urgent to overcome the energy barrier in the hydrogen spillover process at the interface by adjusting ΔΦ between the metal and the support to improve HER efficiency. In this work, a Ru-loaded NixSy electrocatalyst was designed, and the Φ of the support is tailored by adjusting the concentration of sulfur vacancies in the NixSysupport, thereby greatly reducing the ΔΦ between Ru and NixSy. In addition, when Ru was loaded on NixSy, an electric field of interaction is formed between Ru and the support at the interface. Since electrons are transferred from the support to Ru, the electronic structure of support is modulated. The Ru/NixSy catalyst with abundant sulfur vacancies shows a fast hydrogen production rate in alkaline media and the TOF value is twice that of pure NixSy. In-situ Raman spectra explain that H∗ is transferred from Ru to S site, then transferred to NixSy and desorbed. This work provides a new path to accelerate the hydrogen spillover and modifying the support to synergistically improving the HER performance. © 2025 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC

To address the relatively mediocre mechanical properties of single-phase multi-component carbide ceramics,a phase transition from a single phase to multiple phases was proposed to achieve superior mechanical properties.A series of(TiZrV_(x)Nb)C_(0.8) ceramics with different V contents were fabricated by spark plasma sintering(SPS).The influence of the V content on the phase composition,microstructural evolution,and mechanical properties was investigated in *** transition behavior from a single phase to multiple phases is discovered and *** formation of the Zr-rich phase and Zr-poor phase can be attributed to the increase in lattice distortion and mixed enthalpy caused by the addition of V.A nanometer lamellar structure with a semi-coherent interface obtained via in situ decomposition is reported for the first time in multi-component carbide *** semi-coherent interfaces with high dislocation density and strain concentration effectively improve the mechanical properties,grain refinement,and multi-phase *** optimal comprehensive mechanical properties of the Vickers hardness(26.3 GPa),flexural strength(369 MPa),and fracture toughness(3.1 MPa·m^(1/2))were achieved for the sample with 20 mol%V.

High entropy ceramic (AlNbTiZr)Nx films with different nitrogen contents were prepared by magnetron sputtering at different nitrogen ratios (Rn). The phase composition, microstructure, mechanical and tribological properties of the films were characterized. The results show that nitrogen saturates rapidly in the films and the nitrogen content of the films increases slightly with the increase of Rn. The films deposited at Rn = 0 exhibited an amorphous structure, while those deposited at Rn = 0.83–16.67 % demonstrated an FCC structure. The hardness and modulus of the films varied without a clear regularity with increasing the deposited Rn, where the highest values of 32.95 GPa and 468.67 GPa were measured at Rn = 3.33 %, respectively. All films exhibited adequate wear resistance in the friction tests, except the alloy films deposited at Rn = 0. In particular, the films deposited at Rn = 16.67 % demonstrated exceptional wear resistance, with a minimum wear rate of 8.95 × 10−8 mm3 N−1 mm−1. Regarding the compositions of the abrasive debris and oxide film, the wear debris and oxide film were found to consist of TiO2, Nb2O5, Al2O3, and ZrO2 for all of the films except for that deposited at Rn = 0. However, the film deposited at Rn = 0 was worn out. In addition, it is found that the wear mechanism of the (AlNbTiZr)Nx films is mainly abrasive wear, while the wear mechanism of the AlNbTiZr film is abrasive and adhesive wear. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

Distributed asynchronous double accelerated optimization for ethylene plant considering delays

Considering the complexity of plant-wide optimization for large-scale industries, a distributed optimization framework to solve the profit optimization problem in ethylene whole process is proposed. To tackle the delays arising from the residence time for materials passing through production units during the process with guaranteed constraint satisfaction, an asynchronous distributed parameter projection algorithm with gradient tracking method is introduced. Besides, the heavy ball momentum and Nesterov momentum are incorporated into the proposed algorithm in order to achieve double acceleration properties. The experimental results show that the proposed asynchronous algorithm can achieve a faster convergence compared with the synchronous algorithm.

Unsignalized intersections pose a challenge for autonomous vehicles that must decide how to navigate them safely and *** paper proposes a reinforcement learning(RL)method for autonomous vehicles to navigate unsignalized intersections safely and *** method uses a semantic scene representation to handle variable numbers of vehicles and a universal reward function to facilitate stable learning.A collision risk function is designed to penalize unsafe actions and guide the agent to avoid them.A scalable policy optimization algorithm is introduced to improve data efficiency and safety for vehicle learning at *** algorithm employs experience replay to overcome the on-policy limitation of proximal policy optimization and incorporates the collision risk constraint into the policy optimization *** proposed safe RL algorithm can balance the trade-off between vehicle traffic safety and policy learning *** intersection scenarios with different traffic situations are used to test the algorithm and demonstrate its high success rates and low collision rates under different traffic *** algorithm shows the potential of RL for enhancing the safety and reliability of autonomous driving systems at unsignalized intersections.

Surface-functionalized design of blood-contacting biomaterials for preventing coagulation and promoting hemostasis

The anticoagulation and hemostatic properties of blood-contacting materials are opposite lines of research, but their realization mechanisms are inspired by each other. Contact between blood and implantable biomaterials is a classic problem in tribological research, as both antithrombotic and hemostatic materials are closely associated with this problem. Thrombus formation on the surfaces of blood-contacting biomedical devices can detrimentally affect their performance and patient life, so specific surface functionalization is required. Currently, intensive research has focused on the development of super-lubricated or super-hydrophobic coatings, as well as coatings that deliver antithrombotic drugs. In addition, hemostatic biomaterials with porous structures, biochemical substances, and strongly adhesive hydrogels can be used to achieve rapid and effective hemostasis via physical or biochemical mechanisms. This article reviews methods of preparing anticoagulant coatings on material surfaces and the current status of rapid hemostatic materials. It also summarizes fundamental concepts for the design and synthesis of anticoagulant and hemostatic materials by discussing thrombosis and hemostasis mechanisms in biomedical devices and normal organisms. Because there are relatively few reports reviewing the progress in surface-functionalized design for anticoagulation and hemostasis, it is anticipated that this review can provide a useful summary of the applications of both bio-adhesion and bio-lubrication techniques in the field of biomedical engineering.

Multi-Pulse Parallel Demodulation for High-Precision Measurement in Raman-Distributed Optical Fiber Sensing

Raman distributed temperature sensors enables distributed measurement of temperature along the sensing fiber, which is widely used in production. Due to the limitation of the optical time-domain reflection principle, the temperature measurement accuracy of the sensors will be seriously affected when the length of the temperature variation region is shorter than the pulse width. In this work, the relationship between pulse width, fiber under test (FUT) length and FUT temperature is firstly studied. Then, a multi-pulse parallel demodulation scheme is proposed. The experiments depict that a temperature measurement accuracy is optimized from over 30 °C to 1.55 °C with a 0.2 m temperature variation region over 5.6 km. The scheme is based on multi-pulse parallel measurements combined with numerical simulations to achieve equivalent short pulse measurements of the small-region temperature variation without changing the hardware structure of the sensors. This scheme reduces the hardware requirements of the sensors and avoids the problems of sensing distance reduction and signal-to-noise ratio deterioration caused by shortening the pulse width. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Background: In the manufacturing setup process of weapons, aviation, and aerospace, docking assembly is a key component in determining manufacturing efficiency and quality. The traditional docking method uses manual alignment, which depends on the experience and operation level of the workers, so the docking accuracy is low and the installation speed is slow. In response to this problem, how to achieve automatic docking of weapons and cabins has become a key technology. Objective: The objective of this study is to provide an overview of recent key technologies for automatic docking systems and introduce their respective classification, characteristics, and development. Methods: This paper reviews the patents and products related to the key technologies of automatic docking systems. The structural features, methodological principles, control characteristics and applications of the patents and products are summarized. Results: The key technologies related to different aspects of an automatic docking system are compared and analyzed, and the structural features, and methodological principles are also summarized. The problems of the current key technologies are analyzed, and the current status of research and future directions of the automatic docking system are discussed. Conclusion: According to the key technologies related to different aspects of the automatic docking system, they can be divided into motion mechanism, pose detection technology, and computer control technology. The accuracy, compliance, and flexibility of the automatic docking system can be improved by choosing the proper key technology. Further improvements are needed in terms of fast performance, robustness and authenticity, and more patents on key technologies of automatic docking systems should be invented. © 2024 Bentham Science Publishers.
