In this paper, a generalized predictive control method based on pattern recognition technique is proposed for a class of uncertain complex systems with statistical characteristics. The system dynamics is described by working condition pattern moving rather than output equation or state space model. First, working condition data are collected around the nominal operating condition to construct "pattern moving space". The space can be updated on-line. Then "pattern class variable" is defined in this space and the prediction model based on this new variable is also constructed. At last, the generalized predictive control method is also given. This method can identify the optimal controller's parameters directly by the prediction equations and input/output data. And it can avoid many intermediate operations for online solving Diophantine equations. Some simulations based on the actual run status data collected from sintering process of Anyang iron and steel plant are given to verify the effectiveness.

The topology control is an effective approach which can improve the quality of wireless sensor network at all sides. Through studying the mechanism of sensor network data transmission, the nature of data transmission in wireless sensor network is concluded as a kind of responsibility transmission. By redefining the responsibility and availability of nodes, the strategy for cluster head selection is studied, the responsibility and availability is determined by the combination of the residual energy, location and current flow of nodes. Based on the above, new clustering network topology control algorithm based on responsibility transmission CNTCABRT and hierarchical multi-hop CNTCABRT is presented in this paper, whose algorithm structure is along the famous LEACH algorithm. Experimental result demonstrates its promising performance over the famous LEACH algorithm in the cluster head selection, the size of cluster, the deployment of nodes and the lifetime of nodes, and several innovative conclusions are proposed finally.

The steam system is an important part of chemical utility system, but there are widespread phenomenon about lack of testing information, energy consumption configuration depend on given experience and wasting energy. So this paper puts forward a method about the steam pipe network system's status identification of different energy consumption based on the steam pipe network's characteristics of complex structure, much steam equipment, lack of testing information and difficult to build accurate mathematical model. The method based on affinity propagation clustering that can solve big set of data's clustering problem quickly and effective. As it is hard to find preference parameters and damping factor, this paper uses PSO to find the most optimal parameters in order to achieve the best clustering effect. This method is applied test both in classic data set and the steam pipe network of ethylene plant's status identification, the results show the effectiveness of this method.

Wireless based data acquisition solutions are widely used in many fields like structure monitoring, transportation or environmental studies. This paper presents a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) based remote data acquisition and forecasting system, which monitors the geological disasters along the natural gas pipeline under the ground. The field data terminal units (DTU) collect data from the sensors installed on the pipe, and transmit the data by GPRS module to the server in the control center. The server processes the data, broadcasts on the website, and forecasts abnormal variation in time. Three years' operation in site shows the system is effective and feasible. © 2012 IEEE.

Simulation and optimization of acetylene converter with decreasing catalyst activity

Since the activity and selectivity of acetylene hydrogenation catalyst change with time, the operating parameters need to be changed to maximize the profit. Therefore, we collected the industrial process data and estimated the parameters of kinetic model and deactivation model by genetic algorithm. We compared the selectivity and activity performance of two commonly used catalysts. For two reactors in series filled with different catalysts, we proposed the methods of combinatorial optimization and ratio assignment to optimal ethylene production rate. When these optimization strategies were implemented in the actual plant, ethylene production rate and the total selectivity increased significantly. © All Rights Reserved.

This paper is concerned with leader-follower synchronization of complex dynamical networks with sampled-data control. By sampling the signal from the leader at some discrete time instants and using a zero-order hold function, synchronization is achieved between the network and a desired orbit, known as the leader. By applying Lyapunov functional approach and the property of the network topology matrix, a delay-dependent criterion is derived. It is shown that synchronization of N coupled dynamical systems with a leader can be recast into the stability of N decoupled systems, in which eigenvalues of the network topology matrix are involved. Finally, a chaotic neural network is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2012 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

Increasingly in practical applications, nonlinearity, non-Gaussianity, and constraint are considered when dealing with state estimation problems. This paper proposes a novel constrained particle filter (PF) approach for state estimation, where three constraint strategies are implemented: First, to ensure the validity of prior, prior particles are restrictedly sampled in the constraint region by a constrained inverse transform sampling method. Second, if constraints are imposed on the posterior, a constrained re-sampling method, similar to the existing acceptance/rejection constrained PF method, is proposed to restrict the posterior particles to be generated from the valid prior particles. Third, the validity of state estimation is ensured through adjustment of part of posterior particles according to the posterior density function of states, which is accomplished by deleting uniformly selected violated posterior particle and uniformly selected valid posterior particle for reproduction. Compared with the existing methods, the proposed method implements constraints with better physical interpretation, and involves no numerical optimization procedure and no restrictive assumptions about the distributions. From the perspective of supporting decision making, a statistical model is built in this paper in order to realize the tradeoff between the accuracy of OLAP queries and the efficiency of OLAP processes. Kernel density estimate and Copula method are employed on the multidimensional datasets to fit the marginal distribution and the joint distribution respectively, by which the dependence among dimensions is adequately explored. The synopsis information of OLAP multidimensional datasets is stored in the statistical model instead of keeping the raw data in the system, which drastically reduces the data storage space while the time spent on the OLAP query process is also reduced. The performance test and contrast experiment between Copula-based method and the classic GENHist histogram method are performed to verify that the statistical model proposed in this paper can provide the users with approximate answers of OLAP queries under the appropriate accuracy rate while improve the efficiency and flexibility of OLAP queries. © 2011 by Binary Information Press.

This paper considers the problem of sliding mode control (SMC) for a class of linear uncertain switched systems. In the controlled systems, it is not required that each subsystem model shares the same input channel, which is usually assumed in some existing works. By means of a transformation on input matrices, a single integral sliding surface is designed and the switching signals depending on the average dwell time are given. It is shown that the designed sliding mode controller can guarantee the reachability of the sliding surface. Moreover, the sliding motion on the specified integral sliding surface is exponentially stable under the designed switching signal. The efficiency of the proposed method is demonstrated by a simulation.

Kinetics of COx formation in the homogeneous metal/bromide-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of p-xylene

The homogeneous metal/bromide-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of p-xylene with different catalyst concentrations was carried out, and the formation kinetics of COx including CO2 and CO was measured. The simplified elementary steps for the formation of COx were summarized, on the basis of which the kinetic model of COx formation was established. The model calculations were in good agreement with the experimental data for the CO2 formation and also successfully captured the first peak of the CO formation rate as a function of time. The obtained rate constants have narrow confidence intervals, among which only k1 and k2 are the adjustable parameters for different catalyst conditions. The decarboxylation of the carboxyl group in aromatic acid, the oxidation of the aryl radical, and the destruction of acetic acid are the major sources of CO2. The formation of CO mainly results from the destruction of acetic acid and the oxidation of the aryl radical. Copyright © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
