Event-based triggering mechanisms for nonlinear control systems

This study examines triggered implementations of stabilizing controllers for general nonlinear systems. By using perturbation theory and Taylor's theorem, we propose new event-triggering and selftriggering mechanisms for general nonlinear control systems that are not necessarily input-to-state stable with respect to measurement errors. Both mechanisms are presented based on mild conditions and can ensure the uniform ultimate boundedness of the solutions of the resulting closed-loop control systems. The ultimate bounds can be made arbitrarily small by adjusting the design parameters. The effectiveness of the theoretical results is illustrated by simulations.

The state-of-health of batteries is crucial for ensuring their optimal performance. This paper presents a novel multiscale attention recurrent network, which is designed to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of state-of-health estimation in lithiumion batteries. Distinct from traditional models, this approach initially processes raw charge-discharge data across various time scales, employing feature fusion to more effectively capture temporal information. This method enhances model performance by introducing attention mechanisms following the residual network. The key innovation lies in the adept use of feature fusion for multiscale analysis of battery data, together with an attention mechanism to focus on informative features, which significantly enhances the accuracy of battery storage estimation. Research findings demonstrate that, based on historical operational data, this model can provide more precise and reliable predictions of battery health status, thereby significantly surpassing traditional methods. © 2024 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

In this article, an adaptive event-triggered asymp¬totically fault-tolerant control (FTC) issue for nonlinear systems with actuator faults is investigated. An extended neural networks (NNs) technique is introduced to estimate unknown functions of the system under consideration. Compared with traditional NNs that ignore approximation errors, the proposed extended NNs further processes approximation errors, reducing the conservatism of the proposed algorithm. Then, within the framework of backstepping method, a new adaptive control strategy is developed by combining event-triggered mechanism (ETM) and bound estimation (BE) approach, which ensures the asymptotic convergence of system states while also reducing the transmission of unnecessary information, thus improving the utilization of communication resources. At the same time, the designed controller eliminates the adverse effects of actuator failures and system nonlinear terms. Finally, a simulation example of a single-link robot system is provided to demonstrate that the developed control strategy can ensure that all signals are bounded and system states are asymptotically convergent. © 2024 IEEE.

To enhance the robustness of the permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) speed control system, and reduce the response time of the control system, a composite terminal sliding mode control strategy is proposed. Firstly, a integral terminal sliding surface and a fast reaching law are designed based on the mathematical model of the PMSM to avoid singularity issues,enhance quickness, and reduce chattering. Then, the stability and finite-time convergence of the control system are proved by constructing a Lyapunov function. Considering the system's susceptibility to disturbances, the lumped disturbance is considered in the mathematical model. An extended state observer(ESO) is designed to observe the lumped disturbance and compensate for the lumped disturbance to the controller. Finally, through simulation and experimentation, it is demonstrated that the designed controller exhibits advantages such as fast response, no overshoot, and strong robustness.

In this paper, a relay-feedback PID auto-tuning method and applications related to conventional Wastewater Treatment Plants are presented. The developed method has two steps: identification of the process model parameters and PID controller tuning. First, to identify two points on the process Nyquist curve, a relay-feedback based experiment is proposed. A linear model of second order is obtained and this model is further used for the tuning of the PID controller. The performances of the control algorithms are illustrated by simulation results. Both the reference tracking and the disturbance rejection capability have been tested and analyzed. The impact of changing a design parameter in the closed loop system behavior has also been explored. © 2022 IEEE.

There is a necessary combustion facility called the flare stack to ensure production safety in every petrochemical plant, smelter, and refinery all over the world. Because of the incomplete combustion of flare gas, the flare stack discharges a large amount of smoke into the atmosphere and make it dirty. The air pollution is becoming more and more serious caused worldwide concern. Hence, there is in desperate need of an efficient and available smoke detection method to protect the atmosphere. To this end, we present a novel self-attention weight transformer (SAWT) that can detect accurately smoke, then guarantee full combustion of the flare stack. First, we are concerned about the weight relationship between channels and draw on the self-attention mechanism in the MobileViT block structure to adaptively adjust channel-wise feature weight. Second, we leverage short connections to thoroughly learn and fuse local and global features. Results of experiments on a real smoke dataset reveal that the proposed SAWT achieves superior performance to the popular deep CNNs and state-of-the-art smoke detection algorithms. © 2024 SPIE.

This paper proposes a new self-triggered model predictive control (MPC) strategy for switched systems under dwell time (DT) constraints. The strategy combines the advantages of self-triggering mechanism and switching control, thereby having a good performance in saving computing resources and adapting to complex engineering practices. To guarantee the feasibility of the switched MPC strategy under the self-triggering framework, the concept of feasible truncated admissible switching sequence (f-TAS) is proposed to solve the constraint violation problem caused by the switching behavior and guarantee the flexible index. Besides, the self-triggering mechanism is developed to overcome the divergence of the Lyapunov function by using the self-triggered relaxation, thus ensuring the sub-optimal performance. Simulation example shows that the algorithm effectively saves the computing resources while ensuring the feasibility and sub-optimal performance.
