Contextual Multi-Armed Bandit-Based Dynamic Cooperative Link Configuration for AUV in UWASNs With Energy Harvesting

This paper investigates the cooperative link configuration problem for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) in Underwater Acoustic (UWA) sensor networks with Energy Harvesting (EH), which aims to maximize long-term cumulative capacity by jointly optimizing cooperation relay, AUV transmission power, and relay transmission power. Subject to unknown time-varying Channel State Information (CSI), unpredictable stochastic EH, and variable communication topology caused by AUV mobility, the proposed problem is an unknown dynamic combination decision optimization problem. To resist the change of the dynamic UWA communication topology with unknown time-varying CSI and EH, a novel collaborative contextual multi-armed bandit learning framework is proposed, which allows relay nodes to learn cooperatively and enriches the learning information of relays. Consequently, the proposed learning framework can resist the change of the dynamic UWA communication topology efficiently, thereby achieving the superior link configuration quickly. Besides, a learning-rate adjustment rule for the dynamic UWA communication topology is proposed to adaptively balance the exploration-exploitation, thereby avoiding missing the real superior joint relay-power configuration. Finally, simulation results show the significantly superiority of the proposed scheme. © 2015 IEEE.

A Monitoring Method for the Ice Shape and the Freeze-Thaw Process of Ice Accretion on Transmission Lines Based on Circular FBG Plane Principal Strain Sensor

As a key infrastructure for China's "West-to-East Power Transmission" project, transmission lines (TL) face the threat of ice accretion under complex microclimatic conditions. This study proposes a plane principal strain sensing method based on a fiber Bragg grating circular array, achieving synchronous monitoring of 6 strains (ranging from -2000 to 2000 μΕ) across the TL cross-section. Through finite element simulation experiments, a mapping relationship between the bending of TL and the plane principal strain has been established. After completing the sensor calibration, an experimental platform for the freeze-thaw process of ice accretion on the TL was built. The relationships between ice mass and bending strain, as well as the ice shape on the TL cross-section (C-shaped and circular ice) and plane principal strain, were studied. Furthermore, a BP neural network model was developed to determine the 4 states of the icing process (no ice/freeze/stable/thaw), achieving an accuracy of 91.23%. This study provides effective monitoring of the freeze-thaw process of ice accretion on the TL, offering important technical support for the prevention and control of ice accretion in power grid. The distributed nonconvex constrained optimization problem with equality and inequality constraints is researched in this paper, where the objective function and the function for constraints are all nonconvex. To solve this problem from a control perspective, a virtual reference-based convex penalty function is added to the augmented Lagrangian function. Then, based on the primal–dual technique, a two-timescale distributed approach is designed based on the consensus scheme. The slower subsystem aims to ensure the optimality, and the faster subsystem intends to guarantee the stability. Finally, three cases are presented to illustrate the approach's effectiveness. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

How to realize the high power factor, high efficiency, miniaturization and high power density of AC-DC converter is the key problem of battery charging applications. In this paper, an isolated AC-DC converter is proposed. The input voltage is rectified by the first stage AC-DC conversion, and the output is stabilized by the series resonant converter at the secondary stage. A sinusoidal modulation method is adopted to realize the constant current output characteristic independent of load. Then through the output current control loop and the PFC control loop, the constant current output and input high power factor are realized. The design of high switching frequency and resonant frequency provides conditions for high power density and miniaturization of converter design. Finally, the simulation of rated power of 960W was built by Matlab-simulink, which verified the rationality of the converter design. © 2025 IEEE.

Detecting the Position of the Moving-iron Solenoid by Non-displacement Sensor Based on Parameter Identification of Flux Linkage Characteristics

Currently, most researches use signals, such as the coil current or voltage of solenoid, to identify parameters; typically, parameter identification method based on variation rate of coil current is applied for position estimation. The problem exists in these researches that the detected signals are prone to interference and difficult to obtain. This paper proposes a new method for detecting the core position by using flux characteristic quantity, which adds a new group of secondary winding to the coil of the ordinary switching electromagnet. On the basis of electromagnetic coupling theory analysis and simulation research of the magnetic field regarding the primary and secondary winding coils, and in accordance with the fact that under PWM control mode varying core position and operating current of windings produce different characteristic of flux increment of the secondary winding. The flux increment of the electromagnet winding can be obtained by conducting time domain integration for the induced voltage signal of the extracted secondary winding, and the core position from the two-dimensional fitting curve of the operating winding current and flux-linkage characteristic quantity of solenoid are calculated. The detecting and testing system of solenoid core position is developed based on the theoretical research. The testing results show that the flux characteristic quantity of switching electromagnet magnetic circuit is able to effectively show the core position and thus to accomplish the non-displacement transducer detection of the said core position of the switching electromagnet. This paper proposes a new method for detecting the core position by using flux characteristic quantity, which provides a new theory and method for switch solenoid to control the proportional valve.

Gas adsorption and accumulation on hydrophobic surfaces:Molecular dynamics simulations

Molecular dynamics simulations show that the gas dissolved in water can be adsorbed at a hydrophobic interface and accumulates thereon. Initially, a water depletion layer appears on the hydrophobic interface. Gas molecules then enter the depletion layer and form a high-density gas-enriched layer. Finally, the gas-enriched layer accumulates to form a nanobubble. The radian of the nanobubble increases with time until equilibrium is reached. The equilibrium state arises through a Brenner–Lohse dynamic equilibrium mechanism, whereby the diffusive outflux is compensated by an influx near the contact line. Additionally, supersaturated gas also accumulates unsteadily in bulk water, since it can diffuse back into the water and is gradually adsorbed by a solid substrate.

Geological drilling process, owing to Complex geological environment and harsh downhole conditions, generates data including characteristics such as pressure, rotational speed, and depth, which are frequently high-dimensional and noisy. These characteristics make real-time monitoring more complex. Existing methods in the geological drilling process, such as rule-based systems and threshold techniques, struggle to handle the complexity and high dimensionality of drilling data, leading to high false alarm rates and low detection accuracy. This paper develops an integrated temporal dictionary learning with isometric mapping method for monitoring geological drilling process. Specifically, Isometric Mapping is employed to perform dimensionality reduction on high-dimensional data, thereby retaining the structural features in the lower-dimensional space. Subsequently, Lasso regularization is applied for sparse coding to extract essential features from the reduced data. To address the fluctuations arising from the iterative dictionary learning process, a temporal smoothing term is incorporated to ensure the stability of the dictionary across different time steps. After that, the reconstruction errors were adopted to achieve comprehensive statistical indicators. Then the overall monitoring was realized for the plant-wide process. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method are demonstrated through case studies on the Tennessee-Eastman process and the actual geothermal drilling process.

The rate of penetration (ROP) is a critical indi-cator for evaluating drilling efficiency. Developing an accurate ROP model is essential for optimizing drilling performance and addressing process control challenges. However, ROP modeling in deep geological drilling is complicated by nonlinearity, diverse working conditions, and high-dimensional variations. To overcome these challenges, a fusion modeling approach for ROP is proposed. First, the fuzzy C-means clustering method is applied to classify drilling data into different working con-ditions. Based on this classification, support vector regression is employed to develop ROP sub-models, effectively addressing nonlinearity. To further enhance model accuracy, an improved dung beetle optimization algorithm (IDBO) is designed to deter-mine optimal model parameters and integrate the sub-models, thereby resolving issues related to multiple working conditions and high-dimensional variations. The IDBO incorporates four key enhancements, average weight, chaos disturbance, modified local search, and re-updating of the best solution, to strength-en its global search capability. Comparative results using the IEEE CEC2017 benchmark test functions demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms others in 12 test functions, highlighting its strong global optimization ability. Additionally, results from real-world drilling data validate the effectiveness of the proposed modeling approach in practical applications.

Silicon Optical Filter With Widely Tunable Bandwidth Driving by intelligent Algorithms

Capitalizing two silicon rings assisted a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) structure, we propose and demonstrate picometer narrowband optical filters featuring widely tunable bandwidths, high extinction ratios and low in-band ripples. By tuning the bandwidth of any ring or the resonance offset between the two rings, the filter bandwidth could be flexibly manipulated. Notably, by controlling the phase of the two rings and the MZI structures, the extinction ratios and shape factors of the filter could be commendably improved. It is worth mentioning that a genetic algorithm is employed to efficiently manipulate the various heaters on the optical filter, enabling the attainment of desired target filtering waveforms. Experimental results demonstrate the filter capability to widely adjust its 3dB-bandwidth while maintaining high extinction ratios, low in-band ripples and favorable shape factors. To the best of our knowledge, it is a record bandwidth tuning range among the algorithm-driven pm-narrowband optical filters. With the dominant advantages and high performance, the proposed optical filters are competent to dynamically process the on-chip narrowband signals. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Air quality data exhibit nonlinearity, sensitivity to environmental factors, and long-term dependencies. Numerous factors influence air quality, making accurate predictions based on a single-dimensional dataset impractical. This study proposes a method for urban air quality prediction that integrates wide-area spatiotemporal data, designed to address the unique characteristics of air quality datasets. First, relevant wide-area spatiotemporal data are selected, and their correlations with air quality are systematically analyzed. Second, a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network-based Transformer model is utilized to capture the long-term dependencies in the air quality sequences. Finally, the model successfully generates hourly multi-step predictions for six air pollutants. The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the method that relies on air quality data alone for multi-step air quality prediction.
