A real-time one-time pad DNA-chaos image encryption algorithm based on multiple keys

Image encryption is an important necessity when sharing data over public networks, and many image encryption algorithms have been proposed for the task. However, most of these algorithms are complex and slow. We propose a real-time one-time pad DNA-chaos image encryption algorithm using multiple keys. The proposed encryption algorithm uses a greatly simplified mechanism and a large, unpredictable sequence to encrypt the image. Our algorithm has three main advantages. First, its reliance on the original image for four of the keys makes it sensitive to changes in the original image. Small changes in the image produce large changes in the keys, making the algorithm resistant to differential attacks. Second, we integrate the natural DNA sequence into the process of generating the key, and the algorithm uses the massive DNA sequences stored in the DNA gene bank to solve the problem that it is difficult to store one-time pad. The keys have the property of one-time pad, and the key space is considerablely large. Finally, our algorithm encrypts quickly enough to make it suitable for real-time applications. On the premise of ensuring that the results of this paper are not worse than those of the comparison literature in other performance indicators, in terms of encryption time, even if we use a computing environment that is worse than all the comparison literature computer configurations, the algorithm of this paper can still save at least 14%–86%. As the picture size becomes larger, the advantages of the algorithm in this paper are more obvious.

Next-generation sequencing is increasingly being adopted as a valuable method for the detection of somatic variants in clinical oncology. However, it is still challenging to reach a satisfactory level of robustness and standardization in clinical practice when using the currently available bioinformatics pipelines to detect variants from raw sequencing data. Moreover, appropriate reference data sets are lacking for clinical bioinformatics pipeline development, validation, and proficiency testing. Herein, we developed the Variant Benchmark tool (VarBen), an open-source software for variant simulation to generate customized reference data sets by directly editing the original sequencing reads. VarBen can introduce a variety of variants, including single-nucleotide variants, small insertions and deletions, and large structural variants, into targeted, exome, or whole-genome sequencing data, and can handle sequencing data from both the Illumina and Ion Torrent sequencing platforms. To demonstrate the feasibility and robustness of VarBen, we performed variant simulation on different sequencing data sets and compared the simulated variants with real-world data. The validation study showed that the simulated data are highly comparable to real-world data and that VarBen is a reliable tool for variant simulation. In addition, our collaborative study of somatic variant calling in 20 laboratories emphasizes the need for laboratories to evaluate their bioinformatics pipelines with customized reference data sets. VarBen may help users develop and validate their bioinformatics pipelines using locally generated sequencing data.

In recent years, RGB-T salient object detection (SOD) has attracted continuous attention, which makes it possible to identify salient objects in environments such as low light by introducing thermal image. However, most of the existing RGBT SOD models focus on how to perform cross-modality feature fusion, ignoring whether thermal image is really always matter in SOD task. Starting from the definition and nature of this task, this paper rethinks the connotation of thermal modality, and proposes a network named TNet to solve the RGB-T SOD task. In this paper, we introduce a global illumination estimation module to predict the global illuminance score of the image, so as to regulate the role played by the two modalities. In addition, considering the role of thermal modality, we set up different cross-modality interaction mechanisms in the encoding phase and the decoding phase. On the one hand, we introduce a semantic constraint provider to enrich the semantics of thermal images in the encoding phase, which makes thermal modality more suitable for the SOD task. On the other hand, we introduce a two-stage localization and complementation module in the decoding phase to transfer object localization cue and internal integrity cue in thermal features to the RGB modality. Extensive experiments on three datasets show that the proposed TNet achieves competitive performance compared with 20 state-of-the-art methods. A method was proposed for the point cloud-based registration and image fusion between cardiac single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) myocardial perfusion images (MPI) and cardiac computed tomography angiograms (CTA). Firstly, the left ventricle (LV) epicardial regions (LVERs) in SPECT and CTA images were segmented by using different U-Net neural networks trained to generate the point clouds of the LV epicardial contours (LVECs). Secondly, according to the characteristics of cardiac anatomy, the special points of anterior and posterior interventricular grooves (APIGs) were manually marked in both SPECT and CTA image volumes. Thirdly, we developed an in-house program for coarsely registering the special points of APIGs to ensure a correct cardiac orientation alignment between SPECT and CTA images. Fourthly, we employed ICP, SICP or CPD algorithm to achieve a fine registration for the point clouds (together with the special points of APIGs) of the LV epicardial surfaces (LVERs) in SPECT and CTA images. Finally, the image fusion between SPECT and CTA was realized after the fine registration. The experimental results showed that the cardiac orientation was aligned well and the mean distance error of the optimal registration method (CPD with affine transform) was consistently less than 3 mm. The proposed method could effectively fuse the structures from cardiac CTA and SPECT functional images, and demonstrated a potential in assisting in accurate diagnosis of cardiac diseases by combining complementary advantages of the two imaging modalities. © 2024, CC BY.

This paper proposes a novel method for friction-induced chemical reaction machining of single-crystal 4H-SiC wafers using pure iron. Material Removal Rate (MRR) and surface quality of single-crystal 4H-SiC were studied, and the results demonstrate that both high surface quality and high MRR (Ra: 2.2 nm, MRR: 375 nm/min) were obtained. The mechanism of material removal during friction was investigated by examining the critical roles of friction speed. Solid-state chemical reactions between metal and SiC surfaces can be induced by friction, and the subsequent removal of reactants, resulting in a near-damage-free machined surface. A removal mechanism model of friction was established, which reveals that both the rates of solid-state reaction and reactant removal significantly impact the final removal rate of friction. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

PBRnet: Pyramidal bounding box refinement to improve object localization accuracy

Many recently developed object detectors focused on coarse-to-fine framework which contains several stages that classify and regress proposals from coarse-grain to fine-grain, and obtains more accurate detection gradually. Multi-resolution models such as Feature Pyramid Network(FPN) integrate information of different levels of resolution and effectively improve the performance. Previous researches also have revealed that localization can be further improved by: 1) using fine-grained information which is more translational variant;2) refining local areas which is more focused on local boundary information. Based on these principles, we designed a novel boundary refinement architecture to improve localization accuracy by combining coarse-to-fine framework with feature pyramid structure, named as Pyramidal Bounding Box Refinement network(PBRnet), which parameterizes gradually focused boundary areas of objects and leverages lower-level feature maps to extract finer local information when refining the predicted bounding boxes. Extensive experiments are performed on the MS-COCO dataset. The PBRnet brings a significant performance gains by roughly 3 point of mAP when added to FPN or Libra R-CNN. Moreover, by treating Cascade R-CNN as a coarse-to-fine detector and replacing its localization branch by the regressor of PBRnet, it leads an extra performance improvement by 1.5 mAP, yielding a total performance boosting by as high as 5 point of mAP. With the accomplishment of the Human Genome Project, the significance of protein structure research becomes more outstanding. The prediction of protein structure is aimed at the study of amino acid molecules, and belongs to the field of Bio-Nano research. There are two kinds of methods to study protein structure: Experiment and theory. This paper adopts ab-initio prediction method which is one of theoretical methods. Based on the "thermodynamic hypothesis," there are many different models applied to the field. This paper selects 3D AB off-lattice model to solve this problem. ABC-PIO combines the characteristics of the diversity generated by artificial bee colony algorithm and the fast convergence speed of pigeon inspired optimization. At the end of this algorithm, Cauchy perturbation strategy is added to optimize the local optimum. Two functions are introduced to dynamically control two operators of the hybrid algorithm. In order to test the quality of ABC-PIO, ten real protein sequences from the Protein Data Bank have been selected. Compared with other four algorithms, the algorithm gets better result. To calculate the error between the predicted and the true protein structure RMSD is set. Comparisons are made not only in the convergence curves but also in the backbone drawings. © 2018 American Scientific Publishers.
