Dynamic simulation of primary esterification section of poly(ethylene-terephthalate)

Dynamic model is the basis of dynamic optimization in chemical process. In this paper a dynamic model for esterification section of poly(ethylene-terephthalate) (PET) was developed using segment method. Different from other researches, the model considered the interaction between esterification reactor and the column. Dynamic responses of process operating condition were analyzed with basic control strategies. Simulation results show that properties of products such as carboxyl end concentration, degree of polymerization response quickly to step change of feed molar ratio, reactor temperature, pressure and liquid level. Also these step changes significantly affected the changes in gas flow of ethylene glycol and water. control system plays a significant role in the stability of PET esterification process. © All Rights Reserved.

This paper considers the distributed estimation of an unstable target via constant-gain estimators under local communications and channel fading. The communication graph is assumed to be fixed and undirected, and the channel fading is assumed to be identical. Necessary and sufficient conditions on communication network over which the state of the unstable target can be estimated in the mean square sense are given for both continuous-time and discrete-time cases, which reveal the fundamental limitation on distributed estimation induced by local communications, channel fading, and target dynamics. In addition, our results for the case without channel fading and the case with separate communications are consistent with the results in the literature. © IFAC.

Recently, a new system called brain control system has been developed rapidly. Brain control system is a human-computer integration control system based on brain-computer interface (BCI), which relies on human's ideas and thinking. Brain control system has been successfully applied in wide fields, assisting disabled patients daily life, training patients with stroke or limb injury, monitoring the state of human operator, as well as entertainment and smart house etc. In this paper, the background, basic principle, system structure and developments are firstly introduced briefly. The current research status focusing on the problems of electroencephalograph (EEG) signal pattern, control signal transfer algorithm and system application is summarized and analyzed in detail. The further research direction and problems are discussed. Finally, the future development of brain control is analyzed and prospects are given.

Simulation of distillation unit based on artificial immune network multi-agent algorithm

In petrochemical field, the process simulation for distillation is an important task. The key parameter in the distillation process simulation is the tray efficiency, which can not be obtained easily. Thus the determination of appropriate tray efficiency is an important issue. In this study, artificial immune network multi-agent optimization strategy(Maopt-aiNet), which combines immune mechanics and multi-agent technology, is used to determine the Murphree efficiency. The main search operators of Maopt-aiNet include neighborhood clonal selection, neighborhood competition, self-confidence motivation, self-confidence neighborhood learning, and neighborhood collaborative operators. Based on the process and analysis data of the distillation unit, Maopt-aiNet is applied to determine the Murphree efficiency for each stage and to minimize the square summation of model's analog relative error of the stage temperature. The experimental results show that with the tray efficiency determined by Maopt-aiNet the model fits the actual distillation unit fairly well. The method can be used to guide the operation of the distillation process. © All Rights Reserved.

With the widespread use of distributed systems, multi-subspace whole-flow industrial monitoring methods are evolving. However, due to the lack of distinctive features, incipient faults in plant-wide processes are more difficult to detect. To improve the detection rate of incipient faults in plant-wide processes while maintaining the generality of the algorithm, a novel double-layer subspace weighted moving window reconstruction independent component analysis (DS-WRICA) method is proposed. In DS-WRICA, process variables are first divided into different subspaces based on process knowledge and data-driven partitioning methods. Secondly, a weighted moving window is used to increase the offset of incipient faults, and monitoring statistics are constructed by combining optimized reconstructed independent component analysis (RICA) and local outlier factor (LOF) in each subspace. Then, the monitoring statistics in each subspace are fused with information by Bayesian inference fusion method to obtain distributed monitoring results. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the DS-WRICA method are verified by industrial examples.

This paper proposes a novel multi-objective optimization algorithm: differential evolution inspired clone immune multi-objective optimization algorithm (DECIMO). The novel algorithm uses a space-filling experimental design named symmetric Latin hypercube design (SLHD) to initialize the population which can obviously improve the uniformity of the individual distribution. A permutation of population individual indexes is generated and then a neighborhood for each population individual is defined according to the permutation. A differential evolution inspired neighborhood recombination operator, which based on the neighbors of each population member, is proposed to balance the exploration and exploitation abilities of the algorithm with no compromise of efficiency. The DE inspired operator is then invoked into the clone immune algorithm (CIA) to solve multi-objective problems (MOPs). We compare the proposed algorithm with NSGA2 and SPEA2 by executing it to 5 famous test functions. The results show that the proposed algorithm can fast converge to the global Pareto front and also can sustain a very uniform distribution. It is a potential algorithm for solving MOPs.

Sleep is important to human beings. A good sleep can bring sufficient energy and keep healthy. Sleep process contains several sleep stages. There are also several short-duration awake states appeared in sleep process. The amount of those awake states during sleep would be related to evaluate the sleep quality. In this study, the automatic detection method of awake state is investigated on the sleep recording of patient with sleep disorder. Two nonlinear features of ApEN and Mc-ApEN are calculated based on the EMG signal recorded during one's overnight sleep process. The detection performance is analyzed and compared. The obtained results showed that the presented method is feasible for awake state detection during sleep, where Mc-ApEN is slightly better than ApEN. It can be an assistant tool for sleep evaluation.

Gasoline blending is a critical process in petroleum refineries. Real-time optimization (RTO) techniques have been popular with the applications for the blending process for optimization purpose. However the dependency of RTO on the measurement of the component impairs its applicability. Therefore how to utilize the blending model and the product measurement to free RTO from the component measurement is the major research topic in this paper. Unscented Kalman Filter, due to its ability to estimate the parameter for nonlinear model, is chosen to estimate component properties based on the product measurement. The RTO strategy is then proposed with the UKF method for the recipe calculation periodically. Furthermore, the proposed RTO is tested with the gasoline blending benchmark problem, while the results are compared with the ideal blending case. The accuracy of the component estimation and the efficiency of the RTO are verified with the results.

This paper presents an approach to search robust optimal solutions with the concept of degree of robustness in multi-objective optimization problems. The definition of the degree of robustness is used in the calculation of the mean effective objective function(f eff (X)) and in the evolutionary process, degree of robustness is considered as a factor to select robust solutions which can meet the demand for better robustness. Some simulation results are shown to prove that this approach can control the distribution of objective value and help system improve robustness by finding solutions with better robustness. Also, the decision maker(DM) can modulate some robust parameters according to the actual robust demands which makes this approach have more practical significance.

Moving object segmentation and marking object area is one of the key technologies of intelligent surveillance. In this paper, combining the background modeling in pixel level, the proposed algorithm presented gradient-based spatial characteristics in order to improve detection accuracy. For the trade-off problem of background modeling, established the velocity characteristics for each property of moving targets, to make online updates of the GMM more adaptable. The results indicate that this technique can improve the efficiency and stability of detection. © 2010 IEEE.
