Nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) has been widely applied in the chemical industry for its performance of dealing with the multiple input multiple output problem (MIMO) and handling constraints. However, the performance of NMPC would be affected by the accuracy of the model. The NMPC controller has to be robust to uncertainties in the model. In this paper, the scenario-tree based on multi-stage NMPC approach has been applied to the semi-batch polymerization reactor. In this approach, in order to ensure the reasonableness of the uncertain variables and scenario tree number, a Monte Carlo-based second-order nonlinear model and K-means cluster algorithm have been proposed. The weights of each scenario branches are also considered into variable. The simulation results show that the performance of the improved method is better and the variable weights has a good ability of improving the performance of controller.

In this paper, a robust neural control problem for switched systems with unmodeled dynamics and external disturbances is addressed. RBF neural networks and multiple Lyapunov functions are employed to design robust neural controller and switching signal. It's proved that the resulting closed-loop system is asymptotically Lyapunov stable and good satisfactory tracking control performance is obtained. Finally, simulation results verify our theoretical findings and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method. © 2012 Chinese Assoc of Automati.

In this paper, self-triggered consensus control problem is investigated for a class of multi-agent systems. Each agent computes its next update time instance at the predefined time. This control strategy extends substantially the existing work on event-triggered control, because in the self-triggered deployment the agents have no need to maintain the track of the state error that triggers the actuation between continuous update instants. A distributed self-triggered control procedure is presented for a special first-order multi-agents and is shown to achieve the rendezvous objective. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is illustrated by a numerical example.

Measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution removes all detector-side attacks in quantum cryptography, and in the meantime doubles the secure distance. The source side, however, is still vulnerable to various attacks. In particular, the continuous phase randomization assumption on the source side is normally not fulfilled in experimental implementation and may potentially open a loophole. In this work, we first show that indeed there are loopholes for imperfect phase randomization in measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution by providing a concrete attack. Then we propose a discrete-phase-randomized measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution protocol as a solution to close this source-side loophole. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. Quality-relevant fault detection plays an important role in industrial processes, while the current quality-related fault detection methods based on neural networks main concentrate on process-relevant variables and ignore quality-relevant variables, which restrict the application of process monitoring. Therefore, in this paper, a fault detection scheme based on the improved teacher-student network is proposed for quality-relevant fault detection. In the traditional teacher-student network, as the features differences between the teacher network and the student network will cause performance degradation on the student network, representation evaluation block (REB) is proposed to quantify the features differences between the teacher and the student networks, and uncertainty modeling is used to add this difference in modeling process, which are beneficial to reduce the features differences and improve the performance of the student network. Accordingly, REB and uncertainty modeling is applied in the teacher-student network named as uncertainty modeling teacher-student uncertainty autoencoder (TSUAE). Then, the proposed TSUAE is applied to process monitoring, which can effectively detect faults in the process-relevant subspace and quality-relevant subspace simultaneously. The proposed TSUAE-based fault detection method is verified in two simulation experiments illustrating that it has satisfactory fault detection performance compared to other fault detection methods. Constant-round multi-party quantum computation for constant parties

One of the central themes in classical cryptography is multi-party computation, which performs joint computation on multiple participants’ data while maintaining data privacy. The extension to the quantum regime was proposed in 2002, but despite two decades of research, the current state-of-the-art multi-party quantum computation protocol for a fixed number of parties (even 2 parties) requires unbounded rounds of communication, which greatly limit its practical usage. In this work, we propose the first constant-round multi-party quantum computation protocol for a fixed number of parties against specious adversaries, thereby significantly reducing the required number of rounds. Our work constitutes a key step towards practical implementation of secure multi-party quantum computation, and opens the door for practitioners to be involved in this exciting field. The result of our work has wide implications to quantum fidelity evaluation, quantum machine learning, quantum voting, and distributed quantum information processing. © 2020, CC-BY.

Many solder joints usually have to be traversed for spot welding robots, and reasonable welding sequence will improve welding efficiency. Intelligent optimization algorithms have been used to study path optimization problems in these years because of their effective optimization abilities. Due to its simplicity, high search accuracy and fast convergence rate, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was used to study welding robot path planning. A novel hybrid discrete PSO algorithm was proposed to improve the basic PSO after the partition operation, mutation strategy were combined. Then, the optimization performance of the algorithm was used to solve 3-dimensional welding path planning problem. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

Counterfactual universal quantum computation

Universal quantum computation is usually associated with interaction among two-level quantum subsystems, as this interaction is commonly viewed as a necessity to achieve universal quantum computation. In this work, we show that, contrary to this intuition, universal quantum computation can be achieved without interaction among initially independent two-level quantum subsystems. We call it counterfactual universal quantum computation. As special cases, we show how to achieve counterfactual communication of quantum states, counterfactual quantum swapping, and counterfactual quantum erasure codes. To ease practical implementation, we analyze counterfactual universal quantum computation with realistic devices, including the effects of finite execution time, photon loss, and atom missing. Besides the theoretical interest of illustrating the mysterious and counterintuitive nature of quantum physics, our work has practical applications to color imaging of ancient arts, upon which light is forbidden to shine. © 2020, CC-BY.

In this work, the control problem for type-2 T-S fuzzy system with packet dropouts is investigated by modeling the system as a switched system with an unstable subsystem. The mode-dependent average dwell time approach in both slow and fast switching sense is utilized for the analysis and synthesis. A sufficient condition is given by ensuring the packet loss rate no bigger than the specific fast switching mode-dependent average dwell time (MDADT) and the corresponding feedback matrices are obtained. Several simulation results illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method and the priority of the type-2 fuzzy system on describing some nonlinear systems.
