Theoretical physical-chemical models for the formation of planetary systems depend on data quality for the Sun’s composition, that of stars in the solar neighbourhood, and of the estimated "pristine" compositions for stellar systems. The effective scatter and the observational uncertainties of elements within a few hundred parsecs from the Sun, even for the most abundant metals like carbon, oxygen and silicon, are still controversial. Here we analyse the stellar production and the chemical evolution of key elements that underpin the formation of rocky (C, O, Mg, Si) and gas/ice giant planets (C, N, O, S). We calculate 198 galactic chemical evolution (GCE) models of the solar neighbourhood to analyse the impact of different sets of stellar yields, of the upper mass limit for massive stars contributing to GCE (Mup) and of supernovae from massive-star progenitors which do not eject the bulk of the iron-peak elements (faint supernovae). Even considering the GCE variation produced via different sets of stellar yields, the observed dispersion of elements reported for stars in the Milky Way disk is not reproduced. Among others, the observed range of super-solar [Mg/Si] ratios, sub-solar [S/N], and the dispersion of up to 0.5 dex for [S/Si] challenge our models. The impact of varying Mup depends on the adopted supernova yields. Thus, observations do not provide a constraint on the Mup parametrization. When including the impact of faint supernova models in GCE calculations, elemental ratios vary by up to 0.1-0.2 dex in the Milky Way disk;this modification better reproduces observations. Kiwifruit detection in field images using Faster R-CNN with VGG16

Kiwifruit is widely planted in Shaanxi, China, accounting for approximately 70% of the local production, and 33% of the global. Harvesting kiwifruits in China relies mainly on manual picking, and it is labor-intensive. To develop a machine vision system for harvesting robot which can work all day, kiwifruit images were captured in an orchard at different timing, morning, afternoon, and night, with or without flash, respectively. Kiwifruit images of 2400 were divided into training (1440) and testing (960) groups. A Faster R-CNN model implemented by VGG16 were constructed and trained. The average precision of VGG16 model was 87.61%, and the kiwifruit images collected under different timing and lighting conditions were detected well. In the end, the performance of the proposed method was compared with ZFNet in the same image dataset. It suggested that the proposed method achieved higher detection average precision than ZFNet (72.50%). This system is able to detect different categories of fruit in the field effectively and provides strong support for the harvesting robot, which can work all day round during the busy season.

Fine-grained event categorization with heterogeneous graph convolutional networks

Events are happening in real-world and real-time, which can be planned and organized occasions involving multiple people and objects. Social media platforms publish a lot of text messages containing public events with comprehensive topics. However, mining social events is challenging due to the heterogeneous event elements in texts and explicit and implicit social network structures. In this paper, we design an event meta-schema to characterize the semantic relatedness of social events and build an event-based heterogeneous information network (HIN) integrating information from external knowledge base, and propose a novel Pairwise Popularity Graph Convolutional Network (PP-GCN) based fine-grained social event categorization model. We propose a Knowledgeable meta-paths Instances based social Event Similarity (KIES) between events and build a weighted adjacent matrix as input to the PP-GCN model. Comprehensive experiments on real data collections are conducted to compare various social event detection and clustering tasks. Quantum key Distribution (QKD), based on fundamental principles of quantum mechanics, plays an irreplaceable role in national defense, financial and government affairs. Security analysis of QKD system is of great importance. However, existing studies on modeling QKD system are theory analysis based. In this paper, we propose a Simulation System of Physical Components (SSPC) in QKD system which modeling the three key modules: single photon source, quantum channel and single photon detector, it could generate the simulated key resemble to real QKD physical system and its parameters of the physical components are configurable. Therefore, solution can be deployed in different QKD physical systems. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

Design of intelligent Robot Platform based on Multi-sensor Fusion

The mobile robot adapts to the more complicated indoor and outdoor environments, and can expand its scope of application. In order to reduce the influence of the cumulative error caused by navigation in complex environments, the indoor mobile robot that combines Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and encoder fusion is designed and implemented. In view of the limitations of the traditional single lidar scheme, a Multi-sensor Fusion scheme is proposed to achieve indoor map construction, path planning, multi-point navigation and other functions, and a MSIF KartoSLAM (Multi-sensor Information Fusion) algorithm is proposed, which combines the KartoSLAM algorithm and Multi-sensor information to achieve map construction in complex environments. Through comprehensive testing in the indoor environment, the results show that the Multi-sensor Fusion scheme is superior to the traditional single lidar scheme, and can achieve higher accuracy in mapping and navigation. At the same time, the robot platform can also be combined with the Internet of Things technology and integrated into intelligent housing system.

Due to the limitation of hardware resources, the traditional people flow monitoring system based on computer vision in public places can't meet different crowd-scale scenarios. Therefore, a people flow monitoring system based on MD-MCNN algorithm is designed, which is an application system combining the improved SSD object detection algorithm MNSSD and MCNN density map regression algorithm. In the initial stage, the system uses MNSSD for accurate detection and counting. If the people flow gradually reaches a certain threshold, the system automatically uses MCNN to estimate people flow until the people flow falls below the threshold. Through the experimental verification, the system can realize the people flow statistics of low-density and high-density people in different scenarios, and can be applied on the existing embedded platform. This scheme can be extended to smart cities, smart scenic spots, smart transportation and other fields.

Distortion-adaptive salient object detection in 360◦ omnidirectional images

Image-based salient object detection (SOD) has been extensively explored in the past decades. However, SOD on 360◦ omnidirectional images is less studied owing to the lack of datasets with pixel-level annotations. Toward this end, this paper proposes a 360◦ image-based SOD dataset that contains 500 high-resolution equirectangular images. We collect the representative equirectangular images from five mainstream 360◦ video datasets and manually annotate all objects and regions over these images with precise masks with a free-viewpoint way. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first public available dataset for salient object detection on 360◦ scenes. By observing this dataset, we find that distortion from projection, large-scale complex scene and small salient objects are the most prominent characteristics. Inspired by these foundings, this paper proposes a baseline model for SOD on equirectangular images. In the proposed approach, we construct a distortion-adaptive module to deal with the distortion caused by the equirectangular projection. In addition, a multiscale contextual integration block is introduced to perceive and distinguish the rich scenes and objects in omnidirectional scenes. The whole network is organized in a progressively manner with deep supervision. Experimental results show the proposed baseline approach outperforms the top-performanced state-of-the-art methods on 360◦ SOD dataset. Moreover, benchmarking results of the proposed baseline approach and other methods on 360◦ SOD dataset show the proposed dataset is very challenging, which also validate the usefulness of the proposed dataset and approach to boost the development of SOD on 360◦ omnidirectional scenes. Massive Open Online Course(MOOC) is a new teaching mode appeared in recent years and its emergence has constituted some challenge to the traditional teaching. However, MOOCs teaching mode has both advantages and disadvantages. In this paper, both the merits and the demerits of MOOC education are analyzed. We point out that the MOOC education mode and the traditional face-to-face classroom instruction should be combined together so as to improve the teaching effectiveness in modern education. Finally, how to blend the MOOC mode and the traditional classroom teaching and further utilize the network platform to improve the teaching efficiency in several learning phases are examined.
