Burst-Sensitive Traffic Forecast via Multi-Property Personalized Fusion in Federated Learning

For distributed network traffic prediction with data localization and privacy protection, Federated Learning (FL) enables collaborative training without raw data exchange across Base Stations (BSs). Nevertheless, traffic across BSs exhibit inherently heterogeneous trend burst and smooth fluctuation properties, but existing FL methods model single-scale series from only one view, which cannot simultaneously capture diverse trend and fluctuation properties, especially distinct burst distributions. In this paper, we propose Personalized Federated Forecasting with Multi-property Self-fusion (P2FMS), which can represent multi-scale traffic properties from different views. With precise multi-property representations, a fusion-level prediction decision is learned for each client in a personalized manner to promptly sense traffic bursts and improve forecasting performance in non-IID settings. Specifically, P2FMS decomposes the traffic series into distinct time scales, based on which, we effectively extract closeness, period, and trend properties from different views. The closeness and period are embedded through global-view representations with spatial correlations, while non-stationary trends are individually fitted from the client-side view. Furthermore, a personalized combiner is designed to accurately quantify the proportion of general fluctuation raws (i.e., closeness and period) and specific trend property in predictions, which enables multi-property self-fusion for each client to accommodate heterogeneous traffic patterns and enhance prediction accuracy. Besides, an alternant training mechanism is introduced to optimize property representation and fusion modules with the convergence guarantee. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets show that P2FMS outperforms status quo methods in both prediction performance and convergence time. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Broadband High-Selectivity Stacked Filtering Antenna with Multiple Radiation Nulls

In this paper, a novel broadband high-selectivity stacked filtering antenna with multiple radiation nulls is proposed. The antenna consists of a short-circuited stepped impedance feeding line and two U-shaped strips on the bottom layer, four parasitic patches and a rectangular driven patch etched with two Г-shaped slots on the top layer. Short-circuited stepped impedance feeding line and Г-shaped slots respectively introduce two radiation nulls, which greatly improves low-band edge selectivity. Two U-shaped strips and four parasitic patches respectively introduce two radiation nulls, effectively increasing the upper stopband rejection level. For demonstration, one prototype of the filtering antenna with a center frequency of 2.4 GHz is fabricated and measured. Measurement results manifest that the impedance bandwidth is 15.8% (from 2.18 to 2.56 GHz) with the antenna gain of 7.69 dBi. Furthermore, four radiation nulls can be generated at 1.91, 2.01, 2.60, and 2.72 GHz, respectively. And the lower- and upper-edge selectivities are 157.3 and 310.9 dB/GHz, respectively. © 2025 SBMO/SBMag.

Labeling large amounts of extractive summarization data is often prohibitive expensive due to time, financial, and expertise constraints, which poses great challenges to incorporating summarization system in practical applications. This limitation can be overcome by semi-supervised approaches: consistency-training and pseudo-labeling to make full use of unlabeled data. Researches on the two, however, are conducted independently, and very few works try to connect them. In this paper, we first use the noise-injected consistency training paradigm to regularize model predictions. Subsequently, we propose a novel entropy-constrained pseudo labeling strategy to obtain high-confidence labels from unlabeled predictions, which can obtain high-confidence labels from unlabeled predictions by comparing the entropy of supervised and unsupervised predictions. By combining consistency training and pseudo-labeling, this framework enforce a low-density separation between classes, which decently improves the performance of supervised learning over an insufficient labeled extractive summarization dataset. © 2022 Proceedings - International Conference on Computational Linguistics, COLING. In this paper, we propose a new method for simultaneous hyperspectral image (HSI) destriping and denoising with spectral low-rank and tensor nuclear norm under the tensor framework. Specifically, the tensor nuclear norm is used to model the tensor low-rank property of stripe. Moreover, the nuclear norm is used to model the low-rank property of spectral gradient of HSI. Then, the ADMM algorithm is used to effectively solve the proposed model. Experimental results on simulated HSI dataset and real HSI dataset verify the superiority of the proposed method.

Evaluating Consideration Level of Responses For Mental Health Chatbots

Mental health chatbots are widely used and proven useful in the conversation of psychological treatments. The users of mental health chatbots require "considerate" responses because they are relatively sensitive or vulnerable. However, current mental health chatbots do not evaluate the consideration level of the responses. Current mental health chatbots generally use the categories of positive and negative to reflect consideration and sharp. This paper proposes a consideration evaluation model (CEM) to evaluate the consideration level of the responses from mental health chatbots. The experiments first prove that positive and negative cannot precisely reflect considerate and sharp, and then prove that CEM can effectively evaluate the consideration level of responses. We further use CEM to test five typical chatbots and the results indicates that some mental health chatbots may give sharp responses. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Mitochondria are subcellular organelles existing in most eukaryotic organisms. They have a pivotal role in lots of bio-chemical processes for cells. Proteins in different compartments of mitochondria have their transport routes. Locating proteins in mitochondria can provide a solid foundation for mitochondrial pathologies. So far, there have been several computational methods for solving the issue. However, their accuracy is so low that they do not identify the localization precisely. We develop an unsupervised learning model to represent mitochondrial proteins as n-dimensional vectors, called sequence embedding, which can learn the global and context information from mitochondrial proteins. We design a new model, called Sub-Loc, to predict the sub-mitochondrial localization of proteins using the SVM classifier and the sequence embedding method. The sequence embedding method and the Sub-Loc are tested by experiments. Experimental results show the sequence embedding method remarkably enhances the performance of prediction for sub-mitochondrial localization of proteins compared with other feature representations. The Sub-Loc outperforms other approaches for predicting sub-mitochondrial localization of proteins. © 2022 IEEE.

Condition-based video generation aims to create video content based on given information that describes specific subjects. However, most existing works can only utilize a single condition to guide the denoising process, thereby limiting their applicability to specific scenarios. Although some works attempt to accommodate multiple conditions within one framework, they often require multiple encoders, leading to inefficiencies in integrating multi-condition features. In this work, we present a framework that, with the support of the proposed Unified Adapter (UniAdapter), enables simultaneous multi-condition control of video generation within a single model. To effectively merge these conditions, we propose a novel Probabilistic Multi-condition Concatenator (PMC) module, which employs a unified encoder to accommodate multiple conditions and concatenate condition features at the pixel level to achieve fine-grained control. Following the PMC module, we employ 2D down-sampling blocks to refine features for injection into the Video Diffusion Model (VDM). Moreover, our UniAdapter is designed to be model-agnostic and compatible with any U-Net-based VDM, offering a versatile solution for improving video generation quality. Experimental results on public benchmarks UCF-101 and MSR-VTT show that our method achieves superior results in both quantitative and qualitative evaluations. © 2025 IEEE.

In satellite communications, global navigation satellite systems(GNSS) and other important space activities, the value of total electron content (TEC) in the ionosphere directly affects the size of ionospheric delay. Achieving accurate prediction of ionospheric total electron content through modeling can effectively improve the reliability and accuracy of GNSS positioning. Considering the high prediction accuracy of long short-term memory neural network (LSTM) and the fast training speed of gated recurrent unit network (GRU), but it is easy to fall into the local optimum, while the width learning system(BLS) can effectively avoid this drawback. Therefore, this paper proposes a model for predicting the total electron content of the ionosphere, which consists of a broad learning system, an LSTM network and a GRU networks. Six parameters of TEC, geomagnetic index Dst, Kp, Ap, solar activity index F10.7, and hour (HD) are selected as input features from the observed data to predict the variation of the total ionospheric electron content. The results generate prediction maps of the total ionospheric electron content and are compared with empirical models and conventional neural network models at different times and solar activity conditions. The experimental results show that the root mean square error (RMSE) of the prediction results of this BLS-LSTM-GRU model is decreased by 23.07%, 17.48% and 9.46% compared with the IRI-2016, NeQuick and CNN-LSTM prediction models, respectively, with higher prediction accuracy. © 2024, Aerospace Information Research Institute.

There is a growing interest to use Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) inversed PWV for heavy rainfall prediction. When heavy rainfall occurs, it requires the atmosphere to contain sufficient water vapour and undergo strong upward motion. However, existing models using GNSS-PWV for heavy rainfall prediction have not accounted for the effect of the complex motion of water vapour. In this paper, an hourly heavy rainfall prediction model using sample entropy derived from GNSS-PWV and PSO-SVM is proposed. The sample entropy of GNSS-PWV is used to measure the complexity of the water vapour movement process before heavy rainfall occurs. Meanwhile, combining GNSS-PWV time domain features and co-located meteorological data, the occurrence of hourly heavy rainfall events is predicted by support vector machine optimized with particle swarm. To verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed algorithm, Hong Kong's HKSC station in Sham Shui Po is used for the model to train and test. The result shows that probability of detection, false alarm rate and critical success index of the proposed algorithm in this paper have significantly improved over other heavy rainfall prediction models. © 2024, Aerospace Information Research Institute.

Byzantine-Robust Learning on Heterogeneous data via Gradient Splitting

Federated learning has exhibited vulnerabilities to Byzantine attacks, where the Byzantine attackers can send arbitrary gradients to a central server to destroy the convergence and performance of the global model. A wealth of robust AGgregation Rules (AGRs) have been proposed to defend against Byzantine attacks. However, Byzantine clients can still circumvent robust AGRs when data is non-Identically and Independently Distributed (non-IID). In this paper, we first reveal the root causes of performance degradation of current robust AGRs in non-IID settings: the curse of dimensionality and gradient heterogeneity. In order to address this issue, we propose GAS, a GrAdient Splitting approach that can successfully adapt existing robust AGRs to non-IID settings. We also provide a detailed convergence analysis when the existing robust AGRs are combined with GAS. Experiments on various real-world datasets verify the efficacy of our proposed GAS.
