Recent advances in single image super-resolution (SISR) have achieved remarkable performance through deep learning. However, the high computational cost hinders the deployment of SISR models on edge devices. Instead of proposing new SISR models, a new trend is emerging to improve network efficiency by reducing parameters, FLOPs, and inference time through slight modifications to the original models. However, recent methods usually focus on reducing only one of three metrics, i.e., FLOPs, parameters and inference time, which inevitably increases the other two metrics. In this paper, we propose a novel Adaptive Student Inference Network (ASIN) on popular SISR models, which aims at reducing FLOPs and inference time while maintaining the number of parameters and restoring clearer high-resolution images. Specifically, our ASIN divides a SISR model into three components (head, body and tail) and adopts various strategies for each part. For head and tail parts, to ensure the restored images contain more detailed information, a novel auxiliary Enhanced Teacher Network (ETNet) is designed, which is trained with the ground-truth images to obtain more prior knowledge to guide student network to extract more accurate textures using a new knowledge distillation method. For the body part, owing to the varying difficulties of the reconstructions in different regions, we propose an Adaptive Depth Predicted Module (ADPM) to dynamically shorten average depth of network to reduce the computational cost of overall network. Extensive experiments on two datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and state-of-the-art performance of our ASIN compared to its counterparts.

Exploring open-vocabulary video action recognition is a promising venture, which aims to recognize previously unseen actions within any arbitrary set of categories. Existing methods typically adapt pretrained image-text models to the video domain, capitalizing on their inherent strengths in generalization. A common thread among such methods is the augmentation of visual embeddings with temporal information to improve the recognition of seen actions. Yet, they compromise with standard less-informative action descriptions, thus faltering when confronted with novel actions. Drawing inspiration from human cognitive processes, we argue that augmenting text embeddings with human prior knowledge is pivotal for open-vocabulary video action recognition. To realize this, we innovatively blend video models with Large Language Models (LLMs) to devise Action-conditioned Prompts. Specifically, we harness the knowledge in LLMs to produce a set of descriptive sentences that contain distinctive features for identifying given actions. Building upon this foundation, we further introduce a multi-modal action knowledge alignment mechanism to align concepts in video and textual knowledge encapsulated within the prompts. Extensive experiments on various video benchmarks, including zero-shot, few-shot, and base-to-novel generalization settings, demonstrate that our method not only sets new SOTA performance but also possesses excellent interpretability. © 2024 ACM.

Kinship verification is one of the interesting and critical problems in computer vision research, with significant progress in the past decades. Meanwhile, Vision Transformer (VIT) has recently achieved impressive success in many domains, including object detection, image recognition, and semantic segmentation, among others. Most of the previous work on kinship verification are based on convolutional or recurrent neural networks. Compared with the local processing of images like convolutions, transformers can effectively understand and process images globally. However, due to overuse, there are many Transformer layers of fully connected layers, and VIT speed is still an issue. Therefore, in this paper, inspired by the recent success of Transformer models in vision tasks, we propose a Transformer-based kinship verification for training and optimizing kinship verification models. We first train the basic vision transformer (VIT-B) with 12 transformer layers, then we reduce the transformer layers to 6 layers, namely VIT-S (Small Vit) and 4 layers, namely VIT-T (Tiny Vit), to make a tradeoff between optimization accuracy and efficiency. As the first attempt to apply Transformer to the kinship verification task, it provides a feasible strategy for kinship research topics and verifies the effectiveness of the method in terms of the accuracy of the experimental results.

With the digitization of modern cities, large data volumes and powerful computational resources facilitate the rapid update of intelligent models deployed in smart cities. Continual learning (CL) is a novel machine learning paradigm that constantly updates models to adapt to changing environments, where the learning tasks, data, and distributions can vary over time. Our survey provides a comprehensive review of continual learning methods that are widely used in smart city development. The content consists of three parts: 1) Methodology-wise. We categorize a large number of basic CL methods and advanced CL frameworks in combination with other learning paradigms including graph learning, spatial-temporal learning, multi-modal learning, and federated learning. 2) Application-wise. We present numerous CL applications covering transportation, environment, public health, safety, networks, and associated datasets related to urban computing. 3) Challenges. We discuss current problems and challenges and envision several promising research directions. We believe this survey can help relevant researchers quickly familiarize themselves with the current state of continual learning research used in smart city development and direct them to future research trends. A BCS-GDE Multi-objective Optimization Algorithm for Combined Cooling, Heating and Power Model with Decision Strategies

District energy systems can not only reduce energy consumption but also set energy supply dispatching schemes according to demand. In addition to economic cost, energy consumption and pollutant are more worthy of attention when evaluating combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) models. In this paper, the CCHP model is established with the objective of economic cost, primary energy consumption, and pollutant emissions. The mathematical expression of the CCHP system is proposed, and a multi-objective optimization model with constraints is established. According to different usage requirements, two decision-making strategies are designed, which can adapt to different scenarios. Besides, a generalized differential evolution with the best compromise solution processing mechanism (BCS-GDE) algorithm is proposed to optimize the CCHP model for the first time. The algorithm provides the optimal energy scheduling scheme by optimizing the production capacity of different capacity equipment. The simulation is conducted in three application scenarios: hotels, offices, and residential buildings. The simulation results show that the model established in this paper can reduce economic cost by 72%, primary energy consumption by 73%, and pollutant emission by 88%. Concurrently, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test shows that BCS-GDE is significantly better than OMOPSO, NSGA-II, and SPEA2 with greater than 95% confidence. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Landmark recognition stands as a prominent classification challenge within the domain of vision and perception, involving the identification and localization of landmarks in images. However, existing landmark recognition methods often fall short in delivering satisfactory performance. A critical issue lies in the lack of simultaneous exploration of local, regional, and global modeling. Intuitively, the local details, regional features, and global structure within an image, especially of a building, significantly contribute to landmark recognition. To address this issue, we propose a novel approach, termed Hierarchical Context Modeling Network (HCMNet), for landmark recognition. In our methodology, we introduce a Hierarchical Context Modeling Block (HCMB) designed with a triplet-branch structure to model image context in a hierarchical manner. These branches consist of the local branch, which leverages a convolutional layer to capture local details, the regional branch focused on extracting regional features through large-kernel asymmetrical convolutional layers, and the global branch aims at encompassing the broader context by incorporating channel attention. To enhance the modeling capacity, we assemble multiple HCMBs into the HCMNet, creating a hierarchical structure. Comprehensive experiments validate the efficacy of the proposed HCMNet for landmark recognition, showcasing its superior performance compared to current methods. The proposed hierarchical context modeling approach proves instrumental in capturing the intricate features essential for accurate landmark recognition.

In view of the problem that it is dithcult to establish the mathematical model of elevator group control system and the optimization effect of traditional control method is not ideal,a group control model based on fuzzy control is ***,we analyze the basic principle of elevator group control system,then we elaborate the algorithm flow of elevator group control system scheduling optimization,and finally,we verify the algorithm in the simulation platform based on Visual Studio,and the simulation results show that fuzzy control can effectively solve the scheduling optimization problem of elevator group control system.

Relation Classification (RC) plays an important role in natural language processing (NLP). Current conventional supervised and distantly supervised RC models always make a closed-world assumption which ignores the emergence of novel relations in an open environment. To incrementally recognize the novel relations, current two solutions (i.e, re-training and lifelong learning) are designed but suffer from the lack of large-scale labeled data for novel relations. Meanwhile, prototypical network enjoys better performance on both fields of deep supervised learning and few-shot learning. However, it still suffers from the incompatible feature embedding problem when the novel relations come in. Motivated by them, we propose a two-phase prototypical network with prototype attention alignment and triplet loss to dynamically recognize the novel relations with a few support instances meanwhile without catastrophic forgetting. In practice, significant modality differences usually exist between visible and infrared images, which makes visible-infrared Person Re-Identification (VI-ReID) a challenging research task. Due to the existing influence of pose variation, background changes, and occlusion, there are often outlier samples within the set of images from the same person. These outlier samples can adversely affect the process of learning the cross-modal matching model. The existing VI-ReID methods mainly focus on learning cross-modal feature representation by using image-level discriminant constraints, i.e., the distance between the truly-matching cross-modal images should be smaller than that between wrong-matching cross-modal images. However, most of these methods ignore the adverse influence caused by outliers. To solve the above problems, we proposed a Point-level and Set-level Deep Representation Learning (PSDRL) approach for VI-ReID in this paper. By using the set-level constraint in the process of deep representation learning, the discrepancy between visible and infrared modalities can be decreased, and the adverse effect of outliers can be weakened. By employing the image-level constraint, the discriminability of the obtained deep feature representations can be improved. Extensive experiments are conducted on the publicly available cross-modal Person Re-Identification datasets, including SYSU-MM01 and RegDB. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Segmentation of rat heart section images and infarct area quantization are essential components of infarct size measurement in processing data from animal experiments on ischemic heart disease. Previously, the task of measuring the infarct size of rat heart sections was performed manually by experienced researchers, which was very costly and time-consuming. In this paper, we propose a two-stage semi-supervised approach to solve the task of ischemic heart infarct size calculation in images of rat section images. The approach uses a semi-supervised semantic segmentation model and a semi-automated quantization algorithm to separate the differently stained regions of rat heart sections. We demonstrate the results of the approach on a rat heart section dataset, and experiments on this dataset emphasize the effectiveness of our approach compared to other methods.
