FIMI： A Constant Frugal Incentive Mechanism for Time WindowCoverage in Mobile Crowdsensing

Mobile crowdsensing has become an efficient paradigm for performing large-scale sensing tasks. An incentive mechanism is important for a mobile crowdsensing system to stimulate participants and to achieve good service quality. In this paper, we explore truthful incentive mechanisms that focus on minimizing the total payment for a novel scenario, where the platform needs the complete sensing data in a requested time window (RTW). We model this scenario as a reverse auction and design FIMI, a constant frugal incentive mechanism for time window coverage. FIMI consists of two phases, the candidate selection phase and the winner selection phase. In the candidate selection phase, it selects two most competitive disjoint feasible user sets. Afterwards, in the winner selection phase, it finds all the interchangeable user sets through a graph-theoretic approach. For every pair of such user sets, FIMI chooses one of them by the weighted cost. Further, we extend FIMI to the scenario where the RTW needs to be covered more than once. Through both rigorous theoretical analysis and extensive simulations, we demonstrate that the proposed mechanisms achieve the properties of RTW feasibility (or RTW multi-coverage), computation efficiency, individual rationality, truthfulness, and constant frugality.

Background: Improving the accessibility of screening diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and differentiating isolated diabetic nephropathy from non-diabetic kidney disease (NDKD) are two major challenges in the field of diabetes care. We aimed to develop and validate an artificial intelligence (AI) deep learning system to detect DKD and isolated diabetic nephropathy from retinal fundus images. Methods: In this population-based study, we developed a retinal image-based AI-deep learning system, DeepDKD, pretrained using 734 084 retinal fundus images. First, for DKD detection, we used 486 312 retinal images from 121 578 participants in the Shanghai Integrated Diabetes Prevention and Care System for development and internal validation, and ten multi-ethnic datasets from China, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and the UK (65 406 participants) for external validation. Second, to differentiate isolated diabetic nephropathy from NDKD, we used 1068 retinal images from 267 participants for development and internal validation, and three multi-ethnic datasets from China, Malaysia, and the UK (244 participants) for external validation. Finally, we conducted two proof-of-concept studies: a prospective real-world study with 3 months' follow-up to evaluate the effectiveness of DeepDKD in screening DKD;and a longitudinal analysis of the effectiveness of DeepDKD in differentiating isolated diabetic nephropathy from NDKD on renal function changes with 4·6 years' follow-up. Findings: For detecting DKD, DeepDKD achieved an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0·842 (95% CI 0·838–0·846) on the internal validation dataset and AUCs of 0·791–0·826 across external validation datasets. For differentiating isolated diabetic nephropathy from NDKD, DeepDKD achieved an AUC of 0·906 (0·825–0·966) on the internal validation dataset and AUCs of 0·733–0·844 across external validation datasets. Visualization of ontology alignment and ontology entity is becoming a method to help Solve the problem of semantic heterogeneity. This paper first introduces the basic concepts of ontology and ontology matching, and then illustrates the importance of ontology visualization technique. The existing partial visualization tools are discussed respectively in two aspects of visualization of ontology alignment and visualization entity on ontology. Edge learning with unmanned ground vehicle: Joint path, energy and sample size planning

Edge learning (EL), which uses edge computing as a platform to execute machine learning algorithms, is able to fully exploit the massive sensing data generated by Internet of Things (IoT). However, due to the limited transmit power at IoT devices, collecting the sensing data in EL systems is a challenging task. To address this challenge, this paper proposes to integrate unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) with EL. With such a scheme, the UGV could improve the communication quality by approaching various IoT devices. However, different devices may transmit different data for different machine learning jobs and a fundamental question is how to jointly plan the UGV path, the devices’ energy consumption, and the number of samples for different jobs? This paper further proposes a graph-based path planning model, a network energy consumption model and a sample size planning model that characterizes F-measure as a function of the minority class sample size. With these models, the joint path, energy and sample size planning (JPESP) problem is formulated as a large-scale mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem, which is nontrivial to solve due to the high-dimensional discontinuous variables related to UGV movement. To this end, it is proved that each IoT device should be served only once along the path, thus the problem dimension is significantly reduced. Furthermore, to handle the discontinuous variables, a tabu search (TS) based algorithm is derived, which converges in expectation to the optimal solution to the JPESP problem. Simulation results under different task scenarios show that our optimization schemes outperform the fixed EL and the full path EL schemes. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Kiwifruit detection in field images using Faster R-CNN with VGG16

Kiwifruit is widely planted in Shaanxi, China, accounting for approximately 70% of the local production, and 33% of the global. Harvesting kiwifruits in China relies mainly on manual picking, and it is labor-intensive. To develop a machine vision system for harvesting robot which can work all day, kiwifruit images were captured in an orchard at different timing, morning, afternoon, and night, with or without flash, respectively. Kiwifruit images of 2400 were divided into training (1440) and testing (960) groups. A Faster R-CNN model implemented by VGG16 were constructed and trained. The average precision of VGG16 model was 87.61%, and the kiwifruit images collected under different timing and lighting conditions were detected well. In the end, the performance of the proposed method was compared with ZFNet in the same image dataset. It suggested that the proposed method achieved higher detection average precision than ZFNet (72.50%). This system is able to detect different categories of fruit in the field effectively and provides strong support for the harvesting robot, which can work all day round during the busy season.

iSplit LBI: Individualized partial ranking with ties via split LBI

Due to the inherent uncertainty of data, the problem of predicting partial ranking from pairwise comparison data with ties has attracted increasing interest in recent years. However, in real-world scenarios, different individuals often hold distinct preferences. It might be misleading to merely look at a global partial ranking while ignoring personal diversity. In this paper, instead of learning a global ranking which is agreed with the consensus, we pursue the tie-aware partial ranking from an individualized perspective. Particularly, we formulate a unified framework which not only can be used for individualized partial ranking prediction, but also be helpful for abnormal user selection. This is realized by a variable splitting-based algorithm called iSplitLBI. Specifically, our algorithm generates a sequence of estimations with a regularization path, where both the hyperparameters and model parameters are updated. At each step of the path, the parameters can be decomposed into three orthogonal parts, namely, abnormal signals, personalized signals and random noise. The abnormal signals can serve the purpose of abnormal user selection, while the abnormal signals and personalized signals together are mainly responsible for individual partial ranking prediction. Extensive experiments on simulated and real-world datasets demonstrate that our new approach significantly outperforms state-of-the-art alternatives. Recently, patent data analysis has attracted a lot of attention, and patent keyword extraction is a hot problem. Most existing methods for patent keyword extraction are based on the frequency of words without semantic information. In this paper, we propose an Unsupervised keyword Extraction Method (UKEM) based on Chinese patent clustering. More specifically, we use a Skip-gram model to train word embeddings based on a Chinese patent corpus. Then each patent is represented as a vector called patent vector. These patent vectors are clustered to obtain several cluster centroids. Next, the distance between each word vector in patent abstract and cluster centroid is computed to indicate the semantic importance of this word. The experimental results on several Chinese patent datasets show that the performance of our proposed method is better than several competitive methods.

Pathological examination is an important step in cancer diagnosis. Pathologists make diagnosis and pathology report based on observed cell and tissue structure on pathological slides. With the development of statistical machine learning, especially deep learning, automated classifiers are being used to analyze histopathological slides and assist pathologists in diagnosis. Currently, commonly used annotation methods in histopathological slides include image-wise, bounding box, ellipse-wise, pixel-wise. In order to verify the influence of annotation in pathological slide on deep learning model, we design corresponding experiments to test the performance based on annotations with different granularity annotation. In classification, all state-of-the-art deep learning based classifiers perform better when they are trained by the dataset with pixel-wise annotation. On average, precision, recall and F1-score improves by 7.87%, 8.83% and 7.85% respectively. Thus, it is suggested that finer annotations are better utilized by deep learning algorithms in classification tasks. Similarly, semantic segmentation algorithms can achieve 8.33% better segmentation accuracy when trained by pixel-wise annotations. Our study shows that finer-grained annotation can not only improve the performance of deep learning models, but help deep learning model extract more accurate phenotypic information from histopathological slides. An accurate acquisitions of phenotypic information can help pathologists to enquire the model based on which regions and features in the slide were mainly used to calculate the prediction, improve the reliability of the model prediction.
