Basalt fibers (BFs) were surface-treated with γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH-550) coupling agent to improve the mechanical properties of wood fiber reinforced high density polyethylene (HDPE) composites. Basalt fibers were characterized by SEM and FT-IR. The effects of the basalt fiber content and apparent morphology on the mechanical properties of the hybrid composites were investigated in this paper. Results showed that BF coated with γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane coupling agent contributed to an improvement in mechanical properties due to the increased interfacial compatibility between BF and HDPE. The tensile and impact properties increased obviously with 4 wt% treated basalt fibers.

High density polyethylene composites (WPC) filled with 60% wood fibers (10~20, 20~40, 40~80, and 80~120 meshes) were prepared by extrusion, extrusion compound-hot pressing, extrusion compound-compression molding, and forming mat-compression molding. The flexural properties of these WPCs were investigated. The results show that preparation method has a significant effect on the flexural properties of WPC. Extrusion provides WPC the best flexural property and follow by the extrusion compound-hot pressing. While forming mat-compression molding gives the lowest bending strength and extrusion compound-compression molding gives the poorest elastic modulus. 20-40 mesh fiber is a good choice for preparing WPC.

This paper deals with the moisture diffusion coefficient of Dahurian Larch (Larix gmelinii Rupr.) by use of the Finite Difference Method (FDM).To obtain moisture distributions the dimensional boards of Dahurian Larch were dried, from which test samples were cut and sliced evenly into 9 pieces in different drying periods, so that moisture distributions at different locations and times across the thickness of Dahurian Larch were obtained with a weighing *** these experimental data, FDM was used to solve Fick's one-dimensional unsteady-state diffusion equation, and the moisture diffusion coefficient across the thickness at specified time was *** indicated that the moisture diffusion coefficient decreased from the surface to the center of the Dahurian Larch wood, and it decreased with decreasing moisture content at constant wood temperature;as the wood temperature increased, the moisture diffusion coefficient increased, and the effect of the wood temperature on the moisture diffusion coefficient was more significant than that of moisture *** diffusion coefficients were different for the two experiments due to differing diffusivity of the specimens.
