Automation of parametric modeling for grillage method

For solving the problem of manually dividing section of main girder into grillages, a program is developed using VBA tool in AutoCAD environment, which can automatically search the divided position of grillage for section of single box with several rooms, and obtain characteristics of section of each grillage. Meanwhile calculational data can be stored as a text file, which is convenient to be directly called by commercial structural software. By comparing with the finite element software ANSYS, the reliability of the program and the accuracy of calculational results are verified. The program is ease to be amplified and transplanted owing to using the modularizational idea, and it greatly improves efficiency of setting up grillage model. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The model test is an effective means to verify the mechanical performance of the bridge structure and to ensure the structural safety. The accuracy of design and manufacture is the key of model test. For a arch ridge with curved beam and skewed arch, the model test based on the similarity theory is analysized in detail including selecting materials, designing the size of section and calculating the geometrical parameters and so on, and the simulation reults between model and prototype are evaluated. Meanwhile some key technologies and valuable matters for design of aerodynamic model are presented, which provides an important reference value for model design of bridge structures. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

There is heavy traffic on many expressway bridges in mountainous areas volume, and particularly there are often heavy duty vehicles in the coal-producing regions. Most bridges show different degrees of disease in the operations many years later. Combing the bridge disease investigation, materials inspection and load test done on the background of the interchanges over Yicheng-Houma expressway, this paper will make assessment of the frequently-used box-girder bridges' bearing capacity in the expressway to provide a reference for bearing capacity assessment of the old expressway bridges in mountainous regions.

Cantilever casting construction has been commonly used in construction of continuous rigid frame bridge and the implementation of construction control plays an important role in ensuring the line-type of built bridges and the forced state in construction stage is within the design requirements range. It tends to construct across the winter possibly. Based on an analysis of a typical continuous rigid frame bridge construction stage, this paper takes the impact of winter intermission on pre-camber in construction stage into consideration and the research has guiding significance for the construction of the similar bridge to a certain degree. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Based on prophase research work,seismic checking for pier based on energy method is *** seismic input energy demand of pier is determined by using the seismic input energy response spectra and hysteretic energy dissipation spectra of ***,the Pushover Method is used to determine the hysteretic deformation capacity of ***,based on the equilibrium principal between hysteretic deformation capacity and seismic input energy demand of pier,seismic checking for pier is carried ***,this improved seismic checking for pier based on energy method is applied in the design examples of *** with the calculation of nonlinear time history analyses,it is known that improved seismic checking for pier based on energy method can evaluate the seismic performance of pier ***,these valuable results can provide the meaningful reference for the seismic design of bridge engineering.

Based on the wind tunnel experiment for aerostatic force of section model of Jianghai direct ship channel bridge of Hongkong-zhuhai-macau great bridge in construction stage,one calculation program considering the geometric nonlinearity and aerostatic nonlinearity is prepared by using ANSYS parametric design language in order to calculate the nonlinear aerostatic response for long-span cable-stay ***,the FEA model of Jianghai direct ship channel bridge of Hongkong-zhuhai-macau great bridge in construction stage is established to analyze the threedimensional nonlinear aerostatic *** the aerostatic response with different position of bridge is also *** research result indicates that the aerostatic instability can not occur in Jianghai direct ship channel bridge of Hongkong-zhuhai-macau great bridge in its construction ***,the max torsion deformation,transverse and vertical displacement of construction stage occur in the terminal edge of both left and right span and decreases gradually near to main tower.

Our project cost control is mostly concentrated in the construction phase cost control,tends to ignore the costs of the operational phase *** the maintenance and repair of the existing bridge structure,this paper proposed the concept of life-cycle cost,had a detailed analysis of the composition of the life cycle *** on the discount rate,and used the application of engineering principles of economics,proposed optimization mathematical model of the life cycle cost,and gave the life-cycle cost analysis for bridge maintenance program with examples,verified the validity of the model and the implementation of the need for life-cycle cost analysis,and it had practical significance for bridge maintenance phase of cost control.

Image-based method for concrete bridge crack detection

This paper presents a modified image processing method for detecting cracks in surface images of concrete bridges. Clip, filling and rotation transformation are applied on concrete images for precise extracting cracks. Modified C-V model, adaptive threshold, morphology, C-V model and Canny are compared on segmenting crack images which are gathered in different illumination. Analysis results indicated that the misclassification rate of the modified C-V model is 3.56% and the operation time is 96 ms. Therefore, the proposed method can be used for the accurate detection of cracks in surface images recorded under various conditions. Moreover, the estimated crack widths are in good agreement with those measured manually. Copyright © 2013 Binary Information Press.

Flutter derivative is a significant index of the structure flutter stability. Identifying flutter derivative precisely contributes to the bridge flutter stability analyzing. In this paper, we take a research on the Liujiaxia bridge in Gansu Province, China. Different flutter derivatives, which were got via segment model vibration tests with different aerodynamic measures, were classified, and made comparison in order to get the law of how different aerodynamic measures effect on the flutter derivative. The results show that, setting central stabilized plate, Build-in deflector, flange plate all affect flutter derivative significantly, which leads to changes in the flutter critical wind velocity of the structure. Setting central stabilized plate above the deck contributes to identify the flutter derivative of the 0° and positive attack angle, while setting central stabilized plate will contribute to flutter derivative identification at negative angles. It will make it difficult to identify the flutter derivative at 0° and -3° if the built-in deflector was set. Wind plate contributes to the identification of the flutter derivative at +3°, however, it will make it harder to identify the flutter derivative at 0° and -3°. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
