Supervisory control reconfiguration has been paid more attention due to its capacity of handling the uncertainties including resource failures, capability degradation, and task changes in discrete event systems. However, the robustness of closed-loop systems in response to some specification changes was not addressed in the prior studies. This paper presents a reconfiguration method based on Petri nets and integer programming for supervisory control of resource allocation systems with changeable resource allocation relationships (control specifications). First, we propose a reconfiguration mechanism. It updates the P-invariant-based supervisor and evolves the state of the closed-loop system. The latter adapts to the certain changes in specifications by the self-regulation of the closed-loop system's state. It utilizes fully the robustness in a closed-loop system and avoids unnecessary modification of a supervisor. Then, a reconfiguration model with robustness analysis is proposed based on integer programming. By using it, a firing sequence of transitions as a serial of reconfiguration actions can be found. The execution of the sequence implements the state evolution of a closed-loop system. There is no need for making additional efforts to analyze state reachability of the system, since the firability condition of transitions is incorporated into the model. Finally, the method is illustrated through an example of a hospital emergency service system. © 2013 IEEE.

Classifying Micro-blog content is a popular research topic in social media, which can help users access their favorite information quickly. Much research focuses on classifying Micro-blog content with short text dataset. The challenge is the classification effect may be hampered by content ambiguity. To address this challenge, we propose a novel classification framework using external knowledge base and the Bayesian inference method. We first introduce Baidu Encyclopedia to extract effective features, and then we train efficient classifiers with the probabilistic graphic model. The proposed model can classify micro-blog content reliably. Experiments on Sina-weibo dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Vehicle detection is a foundational and significant task in video surveillance systems. In this paper, a vehicle detection method using a deformable model and symmetry is proposed. First, we learn the active basis model (ABM) from the target training sample set by using the shared sketch algorithm. Then, we utilize the edge information obtained by ABM and HSV color information to do symmetry analysis for vehicle objects. The ABM can detect vehicles in various poses, shapes, and sizes for its deformability. By doing edge and color symmetry analysis, subtle difference between two images and environment noises can be adapted. The results of experiments indicate that our approach is capable of detection different vehicles and localization vehicle in bad environment. What's important, the detection results support the capability of the proposed method to enable the introduction of novel intelligent transportation systems applications. © 2013 IEEE.

In this paper, we design and develop Vehicle License Plate Recognition (VLPR) system, which is one part of comprehensive video management platform for parking lot. Combined with intelligent video analysis module, the proposed VLPR system can not only capture the license plates of those vehicles through ENTRANCE and EXIT of parking lot, but also recognize the contents of the captured license plates. In addition, the driver and passenger in the front row of the vehicle can be captured too. The capture subsystem operates well on embedded Linux environment running on Hi3516 SoC chip, and test results of the VLPR system meet the requirements of accuracy and real-time field applications. The VLPR system is easy to expand and modified for other Management Information system to realize functions like personnel management, vehicle tracking, and more automatic and intelligent functions of parking lot management. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In traffic video surveillance systems, vehicles with various distances from the camera have different sizes, resolutions, and angles in traffic images. The common multi-scale method, which scales one vehicle template or the input image for detecting vehicles with different sizes, may fail to detect vehicles with various distances from the camera due to the change of the resolution and angle. To deal with this problem, we have proposed a multi-scale model including multiple templates with different scales and features. Our method includes two steps: constructing the multi-scale model and its probability model, and detecting vehicles from traffic images. In the first step, the multi-scale model is constructed by using three templates T 1 , T 2 , T 3 which represent vehicles with the short, medium, and long distance from the camera respectively. Each template contains one or some combination of sketch, texture, flatness, and color. In the second step, the three templates are applied for vehicle detection by using the template matching with local maximization operations. The main innovation of this paper is that the combination of multi-template and multi-scale method is applied to detect vehicles with various distances from the camera. To test our method, we have done several experiments on various traffic conditions. The experimental results show that our method effectively copes with vehicles with various distances from the camera and provides the detailed vehicle information after vehicle detection. Moreover, our method adapts to various weather conditions, slight pose variance, and slight occlusion.

Understanding the rapid information diffusion process in social media is critical for crisis management. Most of existing studies mainly focus on information diffusion patterns under the word-of-mouth spread mechanism. However, to date, the mass-media spread mechanism in social media is still not well studied. In this paper, we take the emergency event of Wenzhou train crash as a case and conduct an empirical analysis, utilizing geospatial correlation analysis and social network analysis, to explore the mass-meida spread mechanism in social media. By using the approach of agent-based modeling, we further make a quantativiely comparison with the information diffusion patterns under the word-of-mouth spread mechanism. Our exprimental results show that the mass-meida spread mechanism plays a more important role than that of the word-of-mouth in the information diffusion process during emergency events. The results of this paper can provide significant potential implications for crisis management. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Social media is widely utilized in the tobacco control campaigns. It is a great challenge to evaluate the efficiency of tobacco control policies on social network sites and find gaps among tobacco-oriented social networks. In this paper, we construct three tobacco-oriented social networks according to user interaction on Facebook tobacco-related fan pages. We further investigate the interaction patterns including temporal distribution and interaction patterns to reveal the differences of tobacco-oriented social networks. Our empirical analysis demonstrates that: 1) the user interaction on the pro-tobacco fan pages is more active. Fan pages for tobacco promotion are more successful in obtaining more user attention. 2) The gap between tobacco promotion and tobacco control is widening. These empirical results can provide us significant insights into understanding the evolutionary patterns of social interaction in tobacco-oriented social networks and further help the government departments of tobacco control to make reasonable decisions. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Video detection is one of the primary collection means of traffic states in Parallel traffic Management systems (PtMS). In order to accurately and automatically obtain road areas in highway surveillance videos, this paper presents an automatic detection algorithm based on the frequency-domain information of video images. This algorithm uses the frequency-domain feature that is produced by the vehicles passing through road areas in videos, to realize automatic segmentation and recognition of the road areas. The experiment comparing with the traditional vehicle-tracking-based method, which uses the information in the time-space domain, illustrates the advantages of the proposed algorithm.
