Origin of facies-controlled dolomite and exploration significance of the Middle Permian Qixia Formation in central Sichuan Basin, Western China

The intraplatform shoal dolomite of the Middle Permian Qixia Formation is currently considered the key target of hydrocarbon exploration in the central Sichuan Basin. To systematically investigate the origin of the stratabound facies-controlled porous dolomites of the Qixia Formation, integrated petrography,logging and seismic analysis were carried out in this work. The results are as following:(1) the dolomite reservoir is universal in the central Sichuan Basin, and its distribution is controlled by intraplatform shoals, with multilayer superposition vertically. Thick massive dolostone may also develop along with the fault.(2) Three replaced dolomites and one dolomite cement were identified: very finely to finely crystalline, anhedral to subhedral dolomite(Rd1);finely to medium crystalline, anhedral to subhedral dolomite(Rd2);coarsely crystalline, subhedral to euhedral dolomite(Rd3) and coarsely crystalline saddle dolomite cement(Sd). Rd2 and Rd3 are partly fabric-retentive, and preserve the original bioclastic ghosts. Sd shows wavy extinction, filled in the breccia veins.(3) The U-Pb dating and homogenization temperatures results indicate that the dolomite and Sd cement are associated with hydrothermal event during the Emeishan large igneous province. The δ^(13)C,^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr, and seawater-like REEY patterns suggest that the dolomitization and Sd precipitation fluids originate from connate seawater heated by elevated heat-flow.(4) The ELIP triggered large scale thermal anomalies in the basin during the Dongwu movement period. The increased temperature and pressure drove the formation water in the intra-platform shoal facies and overcame the binding effect of Mg^(2+) hydrate. Moreover, the deep hydrothermal fluid preferentially penetrated into the porous strata of shoal facies along the faults and fractures, mixed with formation water to some extent, and extensive dolomitization occurred. Determining the timing of fracturing is crucial for understanding reservoir evolution and hydrocarbon accumulation in foreland *** fracturing data from cores,borehole images,and outcrops,combined with the clumped isotope(D47)and fluid inclusion analyses of carbonate minerals filled in pores and fractures,this study ascertained the fracturing timing of the Jurassic reservoirs in the Dibei-Tuziluoke gas field,Kuqa Foreland *** from outcrops and borehole images show two dominant fracture sets in the study area:W-E and NE-SW striking *** W-E striking fractures are carbonate-filled,while NE-SW striking fractures lack mineral *** veins,not easy to be identified in borehole images,are prevalent in *** petrographic analysis reveals that these bitumen veins formed before the calcite cementation in pores and display high viscosity and low *** temperatures(T_(h))from primary fluid inclusion assemblages in two representative calcite vein samples were notably lower than T_(△47) values from corresponding *** suggests the △_(47) signature underwent alteration due to partial reordering during ***,△_(47)-derived temperatures(apparent temperatures)may not faithfully represent the mineral precipitation *** plotting these apparent temperatures *** burial history,only the possible latest ages of fracturing *** ages were further refined by considering petroleum charging,tectonic evolution,and stress ***-filled fractures likely resulted from the Late Cretaceous uplift,marking the migration of low-maturity hydrocarbons in the study ***-filled E-W striking fractures emerged during the late Miocene(~13-6.5 Ma)alongside fold ***-striking fractures that crosscut W-E ones possibly formed recently due to stress reorientation.

Spontaneous imbibition is auniversal phenomenon in nature, which plays asignificant role in the two-phase flow of gas reservoirs with water. To quantitatively evaluate the spontaneous imbibition behavior of tight sandstone gas reservoirs, this paper conducts experiments on cores with different imbibition times based on core imbibition experiments, combined with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and displacement experiments. In this paper, some significant findings were obtained by the imbibition experiments and NMR, which mainly included the T2 spectral response of spontaneous imbibition and the relationship between threshold pressure gradient (TPG) and water saturation. Homogenous propulsion of water through the macropores which are about 0.5 μm and the effective permeability has decreased by 70–80%. Displacement experiments proved that the threshold pressure phenomenon existed in the imbibition cores, the longer the imbibition time, the higher the water saturation, and the bigger TPG. After the dimensionless treatment, there is apositive linear correlation between TPG and water saturation. The results of this research play an important role in the study of percolation laws of agas reservoir with water and distribution characteristics of residual gas. © 2021 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

Hydrocarbon gas huff-n-puff optimization of multiple horizontal wells with complex fracture networks in the M unconventional reservoir

The oil production of the multi-fractured horizontal wells(MFHWs) declines quickly in unconventional oil reservoirs due to the fast depletion of natural energy. gas injection has been acknowledged as an effective method to improve oil recovery factor from unconventional oil reservoirs. Hydrocarbon gas huff-n-puff becomes preferable when the CO_(2) source is limited. However, the impact of complex fracture networks and well interference on the EOR performance of multiple MFHWs is still unclear. The optimal gas huff-n-puff parameters are significant for enhancing oil recovery. This work aims to optimize the hydrocarbon gas injection and production parameters for multiple MFHWs with complex fracture networks in unconventional oil reservoirs. Firstly, the numerical model based on unstructured grids is developed to characterize the complex fracture networks and capture the dynamic fracture ***, the PVT phase behavior simulation was carried out to provide the fluid model for numerical simulation. Thirdly, the optimal parameters for hydrocarbon gas huff-n-puff were obtained. Finally, the dominant factors of hydrocarbon gas huff-n-puff under complex fracture networks are obtained by fuzzy mathematical method. Results reveal that the current pressure of hydrocarbon gas injection can achieve miscible displacement. The optimal injection and production parameters are obtained by single-factor analysis to analyze the effect of individual parameter. gas injection time is the dominant factor of hydrocarbon gas huff-n-puff in unconventional oil reservoirs with complex fracture networks. This work can offer engineers guidance for hydrocarbon gas huff-n-puff of multiple MFHWs considering the complex fracture networks.

The positive S-isotopic excursion of carbonate-associated sulfate(δ34S_(CAS))is generally in phase with the Steptoean positive carbon isotope excursion(SPICE),which may reflect widespread,global,transient increases in the burial of organic carbon and pyrite sulfate in sediments deposited under large-scale anoxic and sulphidic ***,carbon-sulfur isotope cycling of the global SPICE event,which may be controlled by global and regional events,is still poorly understood,especially in south ***,theδ13CPDB,δ18OPDBδ34S_(CAS),total carbon(TC),total organic carbon(TOC)and total sulfate(TS)of Cambrian carbonate of Waergang section of Hunan Province were analyzed to unravel global and regional controls on carbon-sulfur cycling during SPICE event in south ***δ34S_(CAS)values in the onset and rising limb are not obviously higher than that in the preceding SPICE,meanwhile sulfate(δ34S_(CAS))isotope values increase slightly with increasingδ13CPDB in rising limb and near peak of SPICE(130–160 m).The sulfate(δ34S_(CAS))isotope values gradually decrease from 48.6‰to 18‰in the peak part of SPICE and even increase from 18%to 38.5%in the descending limb of *** abnormal asynchronous C−S isotope excursion during SPICE event in the south China was mainly controlled by the global events including sea level change and marine sulfate reduction,and it was also influenced by regional events such as enhanced siliciclastic provenance input(sulfate),weathering of a carbonate platform and sedimentary *** environment and lithology are not the main reason for global SPICE event but influence theδ13CPDB excursion-amplitude of *** level eustacy and carbonate platform weathering probably made a major contribution to theδ13CPDB excursion during the SPICE,in particularly,near peak of ***,the trilobite extinctions,anoxia,organic-matter burial and siliciclastic provenance input also play an important role in the onset,early and late st

Deep shale gas is an important replacement field for China’s shale gas development. Shale gas production is not only restricted by engineering factors, but also affected by reservoir quality. The shale of Wufeng Formation Longmaxi Formation in Dazu Block, western Chongqing, is selected as the research object, and the development characteristics of shale laminae are compared and analyzed. Through the correlation analysis of the extracted laminae development index and reservoir quality factors, the impact of laminae development on its reservoir quality is studied, so as to provide basis and support for the fracturing construction of shale gas reservoirs in this block. The research results indicate that: According to the shale mineral composition, the shale reservoir laminae have many types, including siliceous laminae, clay laminae, calcareous laminae and organic laminae. pyrite laminae can be seen in some areas, and the laminae are mostly plate, strip and lenticular. The most common lamina groups include siliceous clay lamina group, siliceous organic lamina group, and clay organic lamina group. Overall, the lamination of S111-14 is relatively underdeveloped, the lamination of S111-13 and S111-12 are relatively similar, and the lamination of S111-11-the top of Wufeng Formation is most developed. Through the reservoir quality factor model, it is found that there is a correlation between the lamination development index and the reservoir quality factor. The correlation between siliceous laminae and reservoir quality factors is the highest. The top of S111-11-the top of Wufeng Formation has high quartz content and good brittleness. The laminae are mainly siliceous laminae, which is conducive to fracturing. © 2024 SPIE.
