The widespread integration of renewable energy presents significant challenges for power system scheduling. Traditional power system scheduling is mainly based on the concept of “coordinating on a multi-time-level and gradually refining at each level,” using a sequential scheduling framework. However, with the growing integration of renewable energy, the uncertainty in power systems has significantly increased, leading to severe issues such as conflicts in the coordination between different modules. This paper first introduces the scheduling framework of the traditional sequential scheduling model. Then, addressing the problems of module coordination and insufficient flexibility, an integrated multi-time-scale scheduling model is proposed. This model combines day-ahead and intraday scheduling models, optimizing decision variables including unit start/shut states, operation points, and reserves simultaneously to maximize the collaborative potential between different scheduling modules. After linearization, the proposed model is converted into a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model, which can be solved directly using commercial optimization solvers. Finally, case analyses demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed integrated model compared to the traditional sequential scheduling model.

Based on the construction requirements of the "Emerging Engineering"major in intelligent manufacturing engineering and the characteristics of interdisciplinary integration, the cultivation of high-quality interdisciplinary talents has been established as the primary objective. By coordinating multiple on-campus and off-campus resources and fostering cohesion within the entire discipline supervisor team, the "academic supervisor system"training mode has been established, and the continuous training mechanism for "undergraduate and master's"programs has been effectively developed. Additionally, school-enterprise collaborations have been implemented, and practical bases have been successfully established. With the support of the entire discipline supervisor team and the closed-loop integrated laboratory, the practical teaching system characterized by cross-integration and systematic progression has been developed at our university. By creating a step-by-step, planned, and systematic practical course system, the issues of standardization, randomization, and fragmentation within practical courses have been effectively resolved. Through the integration of project-based courses and school-enterprise co-constructed courses, students' innovative abilities are further enhanced. It then describes the design and implementation methods of major design, and analyzes its practical effects. It holds significant reference and demonstrative value for the construction of practical courses, laboratories, and the talent cultivation model of the "Emerging Engineering"major. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Electric Vehicle Routing Problem with Capacitated Charging Stations and Dynamic Electricity Prices

With rapid electrification of transportation systems in recent years, the electric vehicle routing problem (EVRP) has received increasing attention. In order to serve a set of valuable transportation tasks using a fleet of electric vehicles, EVRP intends to jointly determine their routes and the charging schedules, with the aim of optimizing service reward and charging cost under state of charge (SOC) constraints of battery. EVRP is a difficult nonlinear integer program, and due to its intrinsic NP-hardness early EVRP studies often oversimplify the charging process and assume unlimited capacity of charging stations and constant electricity price. The contribution of this paper lies in twofold. First, to better characterize the practical charging process, this paper introduces a new graph model that can take the charging station capacity and dynamic electricity price into full consideration. Second, we design a series of transformation techniques, including reformulation SOC dynamics, Lagrangian relaxation, exact linear programming relaxation, etc, which eventually convert the original EVRP into an approximate linear program. Extensive simulations across 14 instances demonstrate that, the proposed approach is capable of solving large-scale instances over 500 nodes, and is 100 times faster than traditional analytic methods while achieving very close optimality. While comparing with the popular heuristic method ALNS (Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search), our method is several times faster and obtains much better optimality. © 2014 IEEE.

Privacy-preserving distributed estimation for interconnected dynamic systems

This paper investigates the problem of privacy protection in distributed estimation for interconnected dynamic systems. The exchange of information between subsystems during weighted sum aggregation poses significant privacy risks to distributed estimation. To address these concerns, we propose a noise contamination mechanism for private matrix–vector multiplication and private weighted sum aggregation. This mechanism decomposes the matrix into two column-rank-deficient matrices and injects noises derived from their null spaces to protect the confidentiality of the vector during the matrix–vector multiplication. Several conditions are established to ensure that the mechanism achieves complete confidentiality. Subsequently, we design a double-layer encryption scheme for private weighted sum aggregation with hidden weights, incorporating private matrix–vector multiplication and the Paillier cryptosystem. Furthermore, we develop privacy-preserving distributed estimators for interconnected dynamic systems using the proposed aggregation schemes. Our analysis demonstrates that both subsystems and their distributed estimators achieve effective privacy protection. Finally, an illustrative example is provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed methods. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Acoustic cameras have found many applications in practice. Accurate and reliable extrinsic calibration of the microphone array and visual sensors within acoustic cameras is crucial for fusing visual and auditory measurements. Existing calibration methods either require prior knowledge of the microphone array geometry or rely on grid search which suffers from slow iteration speed or poor convergence. To overcome these limitations, in this paper, we propose an automatic calibration technique using a calibration board with both visual and acoustic markers to identify each microphone position in the camera frame. We formulate the extrinsic calibration problem (between microphones and the visual sensor) as a nonlinear least squares problem and employ a batch optimization strategy to solve the associated problem. Extensive numerical simulations and real-world experiments show that the proposed method improves both the accuracy and robustness of extrinsic parameter calibration for acoustic cameras, in comparison to existing methods. Accurate calibration of acoustic sensing systems made of multiple asynchronous microphone arrays is essential for satisfactory performance in sound sour ce localization and tracking. State-of-the-art calibration methods for this type of system rely on the time difference of arrival and direction of arrival measurements among the microphone arrays (denoted as TDOA-M and DOA, respectively). In this paper, to enhance calibration accuracy, we propose to incorporate the time difference of arrival measurements between adjacent sound events (TDOA-S) with respect to the microphone arrays. More specifically, we propose a two-stage calibration approach, including an initial value estimation (IVE) procedure and the final joint optimization step. The IVE stage first initializes all parameters except for microphone array orientations, using hybrid TDOA (i.e., TDOA-M and TDOA-S), odometer data from a moving robot carrying a speaker, and DOA. Subsequently, microphone orientations are estimated through the iterative closest point method. The final joint optimization step estimates multiple microphone array locations, orientations, time offsets, clock drift rates, and sound source locations simultaneously. Both simulation and experiment results show that for scenarios with low or moderate TDOA noise levels, our approach outperforms existing methods in terms of accuracy. In recent years, soft grippers have gained significant attention due to their adaptability and safety. However, when performing horizontal object grasping, their limited structural stiffness prevents them from withstanding the torque generated by friction between the gripper and the object, leading to a loss of contact and limiting their horizontal load capacity. To address this limitation while preserving the adaptability of soft grippers, this paper proposes a gripper structure called the rigid-soft robotic hand, which incorporates lateral rigid connecting rods outside the soft joints. The paper analyzes the bending capacity of the rigid-soft joint using kinematic methods and investigates the influence of link design parameters on maximum bending angle. Subsequently, a finite element analysis is conducted to study the finger structure with the added connecting rods, aiming to optimize the link design parameters. Experimental results demonstrate the grasping capabilities of the rigid-soft gripper in both vertical and horizontal orientations. The findings show that the rigid-soft gripper significantly improves the load-carrying capacity during horizontal object grasping while maintaining the adaptability of the soft gripper. © The Authors.

Infrared target detection technology is one of the most key technologies of current detection systems, which is not only applied to automatic navigation, security protection and surveillance devices in daily life, but also widely used in the military. However, due to the influence of complex background, infrared detection system is often difficult to achieve accurate and fast detection of small targets, so the current small target detection methods still need to be improved. In this paper, an effective algorithm is proposed by complementally combining local contrast and first-order directional derivative algorithms, incorporating human visual characteristics for enhancement. Then according to the different characteristics of the background and small targets in infrared images, for the problem of excessive redundant information in infrared weak small target images, the high real-time and low leakage rate of LCM is used to find out the information-rich suspicious blocks, and then the low false alarm rate of FODD is used to find out the targets in the suspicious area. Through a lot number of experiments, and comparing with a variety of other algorithms. The results show that the detection algorithm proposed in this paper is significantly better than other algorithms in terms of low false alarm rate and can maintain good real-time performance. © 2019 IEEE.

Waterway navigation scene segmentation is crucial for safe and efficient autonomous vessel operation. To address the issues of large parameter sizes in current high-resolution semantic segmentation models, the difficulty in deployment on embedded devices, and inaccurate segmentation in navigation scenarios, this study proposes an improved Fast-SCNN-based real-time semantic segmentation network for waterway scenes. The proposed network is enhanced by incorporating a dual attention mechanism in the context branch, which allows feature extraction along spatial and channel dimensions to be guided more effectively, thereby improving accuracy. A pyramid pooling module based on decomposed dilated convolution is designed to enhance the model's multi-scale feature representation capabilities while ensuring real-time performance is maintained. Additionally, a loss function combining Focal Loss and Dice Loss is introduced to enhance focus on hard-to-classify samples and improve prediction accuracy for target regions, thereby significantly enhancing the model's ability to recognize minority-class targets. Experimental results have demonstrated that the improved model achieves a segmentation accuracy (mIoU) of 80.6% on the constructed On_Water_Dataset, with an inference speed of 90.1 frames per second, Segmentation accuracy increased by 16.9% relative to the original model. Deployment and experimental verification on embedded devices have confirmed that real-time performance is maintained while effectively segmenting complex backgrounds and multi-scale objects in waterway navigation scenarios. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu.
