Current cloud data centers are fully virtualized for service consolidations and power/energy reduction. Although virtualization could reduce real time power and overall energy consumption, the energy characteristics of hypervisors hosting different workloads are not well profiled and understood. In this paper, we investigate the power and energy characteristics of mainstream hypervisors and container engine, i.e., VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM, XenServer and Docker, on five different platforms (two mainstream 2U rack servers, one emerging ARM64 server, one desktop server, and one laptop) with hundreds of hours' power measures. We use both computing intensive and mixed web server-database workloads to explore the power and energy characteristics of different hypervisors. Extensive experiment results of four workload levels (very light, light, fair, and very heavy workload) demonstrate that hypervisors expose different power and energy characteristics. We find that: (1) Hypervisors expose different power and energy consumption on the same hardware running same workloads. (2) Although mainstream hypervisors have different energy efficiencies aligned with different workload types and workload levels, there is no single hypervisor that outperforms all other hypervisors on all platforms in terms of power or energy consumptions. (3) Although container virtualization is considered as light-weight virtualization in terms of implementation and maintenance, it is not essentially more power efficient than traditional virtualization technology. (4) ARM64 server does have lower power consumption, but they finish computing jobs with longer execution time and sometimes consume more energy. And ARM64 servers has medium energy consumption per database operations for mixed workloads. The results presented in this paper provide useful insights to system designers, as well as data center operators for power-aware workload placement and virtual machine scheduling. © 2016 IEEE.

Parameterized expressions for an improved Rouse equation

The equilibrium profile of suspended sediment concentration（SSC） in steady,uniform turbulent flow has been extensively studied since the proposition of Rouse equation（Rouse,1937）.Many researchers keep studying and attempting to improve the Rouse equation by modifying the mixing length *** and Dey（2009） improved Rouse equation based on the modified sediment diffusivity,however,their proposed sediment diffusivity has two parameters,the depth modification factor α and the reciprocal of the sediment Schmidt number β=1/S;,and the corresponding expressions were not given properly in their *** paper aims to parameterize the relevant coefficients,the results shows:（1）α is parameterized from a reasonable approximation by the analysis of surface boundary condition of SSC;（2） considering some effect factors on the settling velocity,β can be expressed by an extended and modified Montcs-Ippen formula,and its related parameters are calibrated by substantial data about the relationship between the primary Rouse parameter Z.= ω;/*** its counterpart Z.’=ω;/β*** verification with some experimental and field datasets,and comparison with related formula,the results show that the sediment diffusivity and SSC profiles have a good agreement with measured data used the present parameterized expressions of a and β,so the present improved Rouse equation is reasonable,and can be applied in practical ***,an approximation and simplified expression of the improved Rouse equation is deduced by using the approach of perturbation,which can be applied easily for the estimation of suspended sediment transport rate.

In this paper, a class of linear quadratic differential game guidance scheme is presented to study the pursuit and evasion conflict scenario that an evader establishes a static obstacle and performs the evasion maneuver to avoid a pursuer. First of all, the engagement kinematic model among the obstacle, the pursuer, and the evader is linearized according to the assumption. The issue of the pursuit and evasion game is transformed into a linear quadratic differential game through the dead zone and the cost functions. Furthermore, the linear quadratic differential game approach is utilized to obtain the guidance strategy with obstacle avoidance. Numerical simulation results are employed to validate the performance of the guidance policy. © 2024, International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences. All rights reserved.

With the increasing popularity of 3D models, retrieving deformable 3D objects is becoming a crucial task. The state-of-the-art methods use complex deep neural networks to address this problem, which require lots of computational resources. In this paper, we develop a more effective solution by using point convolution. Our algorithm takes local point descriptors as the input and produces a global vector for shape retrieval. To save the efforts of designing complex deep convolutional neural network (CNN), we first use intrinsic point descriptors to describe the shape deformations. Then, a simple but effective point CNN network is developed to integrate the local shape information by performing subspace compression and fusion, which depends on an end-to-end learning process to link the local and global information for discriminative shape representation. The experimental results on popular benchmarks have verified that our algorithm is able to outperform the state-of-the-art methods.

A new approach is developed for dealing with seriously conflicting evidence especially when the information quality is relatively low resulting from sensors' poor identification performance. The approach combines MADA and the Dempster- Shafer theory of evidence (DST) to deal with the interval uncertainties or local ignorance. A belief interval matrix is firstly constructed, and then an objective programming model is established to obtain the attribute weights. Thus the alternatives can be ranked by using the weighted correlation projection of alternative onto optimum solution. Our proposed method can sufficiently utilize the objective information of alternatives, and at the same time meet the subjective requirements of the decision makers as much as possible. A typical example is given to test the proposed method against some existing methods, and the result shows its superior and practicality, as well its effectiveness of making the decision problem much simpler especially in the case of combining evidence with high conflict information given by “bad” evidences.

Measuring the degree of autonomous capabilities of UAVs in a scientific and objective manner is crucial for assessing the state of UAV technology and directing future technological advancements. In this paper, the index system of the UAV autonomous capability level assessment is determined by using the gray correlation method. An expandable UAV autonomous capability level assessment model is constructed using the entropy weight-objective element approach, and the UAV autonomous capability level assessment is investigated from 24 indicators in three dimensions, including the human-computer interaction, task completion, and adaptive environment capabilities. A case study of the autonomous capability level assessment of a particular UAV model serves as an illustration of the scientificity and efficacy of the research conducted in this paper. The evaluation's findings demonstrate that the model can correctly represent the degree of autonomous capacity possessed by UAVs and offer useful benchmark data for enhancing such capability.

In order to make full use of the concept of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and the collaborative design capability of the open model-based engineering environment (OpenMBEE) in establishing complex product development platform, we propose an effective method to solve the problem of unified identity authentication in OpenMBEE integration. The proposed method is based on the Model View Controller(MVC) architecture in OpenMBEE, which has the characteristics strong plasticity and can be benefit for expanding the function in the controller layer. In our research, we make full use of the Software Development Kit (SDK) of OpenMBEE to expand the existing functions in the controller layer, and increase the function of communicating with the application development platform, then realize the function of sharing user authentication information between the development platform and OpenMBEE. After expansion, the system includes three modules, including the Front-end Service Module(FSM), MQ based Information Receiving Service Module(IFRSM), and the OpenMBEE Back-end Server Module(BSM). The effectiveness of the proposed strategies is verified by some practical instances, which verifies that our study can provide an effective design idea for the identity authentication in OpenMBEE integration. ©2021 IEEE
