Understanding the spatial and temporal variations of atmospheric mercury (Hg) in the marine boundary layer could advances our knowledge on ocean evasion of Hg. Here, we conducted continuous measurement of total gaseous mercury (TGM) in the marine boundary layer along a round-the-world cruise from August 2017 to May 2018, with the maximum and minimum observed in Southern Indian Ocean (1.29±0.22 ng m-3) and Southern Atlantic Ocean (0.61±0.28 ng m-3), respectively. Enhanced TGM was observed during the daytime with the diurnal amplitude difference reaching its maximum in the range of 0.30-0.37 ng m-3 in Southern Indian Ocean and Southern Ocean. The positive correlation between TGM (R2=0.68-0.92) and hourly solar radiation in each ocean suggested the daytime enhanced TGM was probably driven by Hg photoreduction in seawater after excluding the influence of other meteorological factors. The diurnal amplitude of TGM in the marine boundary layer is impacted by the microbial productivity and the ratio of ultraviolet radiation. Our study highlights that ocean acts as a net TGM source during the daytime in the South Hemisphere and aqueous photoreduction process may play an important role in the biogeochemical cycling of Hg. © 2023, The Authors. In shallow waters, regular striations can be observed from the broad-band range-frequency spectrogram radiated by a moving ship, whose structure can be interpreted by the waveguide invariant theory and has been applied for sediment geoacoustic inversion and source ranging, etc. We present an algorithm to sequentially estimate the source range by observing the striation geometrical characteristics with an extended Kalman filter. This approach is based on the waveguide invariant theory and has the advantage of no requirement of a prior environmental information and forward sound field calculation. The at-sea ship noise data is tested, and the results are in high agreement with GPS data, besides, this approach is also demonstrated to be robust to initial state values. © 2018 Acta Acustica.

Towards Realistic Face Photo-Sketch Synthesis via Composition-Aided GANs

Face photo-sketch synthesis aims at generating a facial sketch/photo conditioned on a given photo/sketch. It is of wide applications including digital entertainment and law enforcement. Precisely depicting face photos/sketches remains challenging due to the restrictions on structural realism and textural consistency. While existing methods achieve compelling results, they mostly yield blurred effects and great deformation over various facial components, leading to the unrealistic feeling of synthesized images. To tackle this challenge, in this work, we propose to use the facial composition information to help the synthesis of face sketch/photo. Specially, we propose a novel composition-aided generative adversarial network (CA-GAN) for face photo-sketch synthesis. In CA-GAN, we utilize paired inputs including a face photo/sketch and the corresponding pixel-wise face labels for generating a sketch/photo. In addition, to focus training on hard-generated components and delicate facial structures, we propose a compositional reconstruction loss. Finally, we use stacked CA-GANs (SCA-GAN) to further rectify defects and add compelling details. Experimental results show that our method is capable of generating both visually comfortable and identity-preserving face sketches/photos over a wide range of challenging data. Our method achieves the state-of-the-art quality, reducing best previous Fréchet Inception distance (FID) by a large margin. In this paper, we propose a general framework for constructing IGA-suitable planar B-spline parameterizations from given complex CAD boundaries consisting of a set of B-spline curves. Instead of forming the computational domain by a simple boundary, planar domains with high genus and more complex boundary curves are considered. Firstly, some pre-processing operations including Bézier extraction and subdivision are performed on each boundary curve in order to generate a high-quality planar parameterization;then a robust planar domain partition framework is proposed to construct high-quality patch-meshing results with few singularities from the discrete boundary formed by connecting the end points of the resulting boundary segments. After the topology information generation of quadrilateral decomposition, the optimal placement of interior Bézier curves corresponding to the interior edges of the quadrangulation is constructed by a global optimization method to achieve a patch-partition with high quality. Finally, after the imposition of C1/G1-continuity constraints on the interface of neighboring Bézier patches with respect to each quad in the quadrangulation, the high-quality Bézier patch parameterization is obtained by a C1constrained local optimization method to achieve uniform and orthogonal iso-parametric structures while keeping the continuity conditions between patches. The efficiency and robustness of the proposed method are demonstrated by several examples which are compared to results obtained by the skeleton-based parameterization approach. As the size of datasets and neural network models increases, automatic parallelization methods for models have become a research hotspot in recent years. The existing auto-parallel methods based on machine learning or graph algorithms still have issues with search efficiency and applicability. This paper proposes an automatic parallel method based on a dual-population genetic algorithm, TGA, which transforms model partitioning and placement into an integer linear programming problem and constructs a cost model to evaluate the solution. The solution space is built using the neural network’s dataflow graph and device cluster’s topology, and the dual-population genetic algorithm is used to search for the optimal model parallel strategy. Experiments with various models show that the proposed method can improve single-step execution time by up to 42% compared to the Baechi method and up to 37.7% compared to the Hierarchical method.

Seabed geoacoustic parameters and associated uncertainties are important for sonar performance prediction and related applications, and the feasibility of jointly using pressure and vector fields to increase geoacoustic inversion reliability is discussed. The matching field inversion algorithm is used to process ship noise data collected by a single-vector hydrophone, and the estimation value and posterior probability distribution is derived. Theoretical analysis and a numerical simulation suggest that the component of the vertical particle velocity provides more abundant acoustic signal transmission characteristics than when using the acoustic pressure field only, and more consolidated estimates can be obtained through using pressure and vector fields jointly than by treating them individually. © 2018, Editorial Department of Journal of HEU. For the problem of compute nodes load unbalance leads to the overload node impact VM performance and the underload node waste electrical energy. Dynamic VM consolidation is an efficient approach for improving the utilization of servers and reducing energy costs. In this paper, we introduce dynamic consolidation into OpenStack and implement AMVM based on OpenStack. AMVM collect and analyze all performance data of VM and compute node in OpenStack. Then AMVM automatically schedules VM live migrate to the most appropriate node according to the real-time load of all compute nodes. Then we use hybrid-copy instead of pre-copy in AMVM to improve the efficiency of VM live migration. Finally, we analyze the performance of hybrid-copy, hybrid-copy can reduce page faults compared with post-copy and reduce total data transferred compared with pre-copy. © 2016 SERSC.

Role of Black Carbon in Modulating Aerosol Direct Effects Driven by Air Pollution Controls During 2013-2017 in China

Aerosol direct effects (ADEs) can modulate shortwave radiation as well as atmospheric dynamics and air quality. As the key absorbing component of aerosol, the black carbon (BC) largely determines the aerosol optical properties. Therefore, it is expected that BC emission controls might gain co-benefits from the simultaneous reduction of ADEs. To demonstrate such synergy, we quantified the ADEs changes and role of BC controls in China during 2013-2017 using a regional two-way coupled meteorology chemistry transport model. Results suggest that the control action effectively reduced wintertime PM2.5 concentration (-26.0 μg m-3) and associated ADEs. The influence of ADEs on surface shortwave radiation, 2-meter temperature, and planetary boundary layer height was weakened from -16.7 W m-2, -0.20°C, and -15.4 m in 2013 to -11.3 W m-2, -0.06°C, and -10.7 m in 2017, respectively. The enhancement of SO2, NO2, and PM2.5 concentrations due to ADEs was reduced from +3.1%, +5.2%, and +5.4% in 2013, to +2.6%, +4.5%, and +3.3% in 2017, respectively, demonstrating the extra benefit of air pollution controls by reducing ADEs. The BC emission reduced by 12.5% simultaneously along with the effective controls during 2013-2017. Such BC controls contributes 15.6-60.2% of such changes in the ADEs influence on meteorological variables, and 32.6-41.1% on air pollutants. More specially, the effectiveness of collaborative reduction of BC further reduced surface shortwave radiation in China by 3.6 W m-2 in January and 1.0 W m-2 in July, leading to a more weakened ADEs that bring extra benefits in reducing PM2.5 concentrations by 1.8 μg m-3 in January and 0.3 μg m-3 in July. Apparently, BC played a dominant role in modulating the ADEs and associated influences on meteorology and air quality, suggesting a wise control strategy by targeting absorbing component of PM2.5 reduction to address both air pollution and climate change in the future. © 2022, The Authors. The problem of the finite-time quasi-projective synchronization (FTQPS) of fractional-order reaction-diffusion neural networks (FORDNNs) is examined by this paper. First, on the basis of the characterization of the reaction diffusion term and the concept of inequality deflation, an integral-type Lyapunov function is constructed. Subsequently, a nonlinear feedback control strategy is constructed, and sufficient conditions for FTQPS of the developed model are derived. Further, the system's synchronization speed is measured by estimating the settling time. It should be noted that the above control strategy is also applicable to conventional integer order RDNNs with time delay. Finally, a nu merical example is used to illustrate the veracity and validity of the theoretical analysis presented. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.
