Molecular dynamics study of the effects of deposition parameters on Si_0.5Ge_0.5 film growth on Ge(100) substrate

With the widespread application of SiGe films in the semiconductor field, precisely controlling the growth process to obtain high-quality films has become an important research direction. This study focuses on the growth of Si_0.5Ge_0.5 films on Ge (100) substrates and investigates the effects of different deposition parameters (such as deposition interval, incident energy, incident angle, and substrate off-angle) on film quality. Through molecular dynamics simulations, the effects of these deposition parameters on the crystal structure, dislocation density, and surface roughness of the films are systematically analyzed. The results show that shorter deposition intervals lead to faster atomic deposition, increasing the proportion of disordered atoms;longer deposition intervals effectively reduce the proportion of disordered atoms, but excessively long intervals may increase surface roughness and form island-like structures. Additionally, appropriate incident energy, incident angle, and substrate off-angle can significantly optimize the film quality, with the surface roughness being minimized when the incident energy is 1 eV. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

This paper proposes a novel online sparse least square support vector regression without bias for forecasting capacitive type pressure transducer remaining useful life prediction (RUL). The proposed approach is based on mechanism and statistical knowledge. The impedance variables are applied to calibrate the correlation between pressure capacitance capacity degradation and the resistance value to improve the prediction precision. Furthermore, a particle filter algorithm is proposed to estimate the pressure capacitance impedance fade parameters, and then the probability density function of the predicted RUL value is obtained by Gaussian. Lastly, experimental results consider #5 and #6. The pressure capacitance data set verifies the hybrid RUL prognostics strategy with high accuracy and robust stability. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Optimal Design and Seismic Performance of Base-Isolated Structures with Varying Heights Equipped with Tuned Inerter Dampers Subjected to Far-Fault and Near-Fault Ground Motions

This paper investigates the optimal design of base-isolated structures equipped with tuned inerter dampers (TIDs) subjected to various ground motions. The Clough–Penzien model is employed to simulate the power spectrum of three types of ground motions: far-fault, near-fault without pulse subset, and near-fault with pulse subset, with the relevant parameters identified based on actual ground motions. The optimal parameters of the TID for base-isolated structures are determined using the H2 optimization criterion to reduce the structural displacement response. The impact of relevant design properties about the optimal parameters is analyzed. The seismic control effectiveness of the TID for 5-storey, 10-storey, and 15-storey base-isolated structures with varying heights is then evaluated through time history analysis, considering far-fault, near-fault without pulse subset, and near-fault with pulse subset ground motions. The main conclusions of this study are as follows: the ground motion type, the natural vibration period of the isolated structure, the damping ratio of the isolated structure and the mass ratio of the TID all affect the optimal parameters and should be analyzed based on specific circumstances. The control effectiveness of the TID on displacement and acceleration response is more pronounced under far-fault ground motion than under near-fault ground motion. The TID equipped in the isolation storey exhibits considerable effectiveness in controlling the seismic response of 5-storey and 10-storey base isolated structures, while it exhibits weaker control over the seismic response of the 15-storey structure. Additionally, while the TID primarily targets displacement response control, it also exhibits substantial control over the absolute acceleration response of the structure. © 2025 by the authors.

The critical role of temperature on the CO2 replacement characteristics within inorganic minerals in shale oil reservoirs

In the process of replacing shale oil with CO2, the pattern of crude oil on the pore surface and its interaction with the pore wall is critical, and they predominantly affect the recovery rate of CO2 on crude oil. The molecular dynamics (MD) simulation method was used to investigate the adsorption performances of dodecane molecules on the surface of three minerals (kaolinite, feldspar, quartz) and the displacement of CO2 on crude oil at different temperatures. The results indicate that the lipophilicity of the three minerals is kaolinite > feldspar > quartz. Furthermore, after CO2 was injected into different inorganic mineral nanopores, the CO2 displacement efficiency is shown as quartz > feldspar > kaolinite. Finally, the displacement effect of CO2 on crude oil varies with the optimal displacement temperature on different mineral surfaces. The optimal displacement temperature for quartz is 343 K, while the optimal displacement temperature for kaolinite and feldspar is 363 K, the diffusion coefficient at this temperature increased by 1.4 times, 2.6 times, and 2.3 times respectively compared to the diffusion coefficient at 303 K. These findings could contribute to CO2 capture and sequestration techniques for achieving improved shale oil production and alleviating the greenhouse effect. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Data-Driven Learning and control with Event-Triggered Measurements

Event-triggered control has attracted considerable attention for its effectiveness in resource-restricted applications. To make event-triggered control as an end-to-end solution, a key issue is how to effectively learn unknown system dynamics from event-triggered measurements and consequently, develop a learning-based event-triggered controller. Existing works learn system dynamics based on periodic time-triggered measurements, and it is yet to know how to learn a controller with performance guarantee based on event-triggered measurements. To address this issue, we consider the problem of learning an event-triggered state feedback controller for an unknown linear system based on event-triggered state measurements in this work. In particular, we first analyze the event-triggered measurements within a set-membership framework. We prove that the estimation error belongs to a bounded ellipsoid determined by the historical measurements and the event-triggering condition. Subsequently, we demonstrate that all admissible systems compatible with the collected data samples can be explicitly represented in the form of quadratic matrix inequalities using the state estimates. With the acquired set of admissible systems, a co-design problem for the data-driven controller and event-triggering condition is solved using the linear matrix inequality technique, with guaranteed closed-loop stability and L2-gain performance. Finally, numerical examples and comparisons are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed event-triggered learning and control approach. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Comparative analysis of cylindrical lithium-ion battery responses to continuous and intermittent compression: Insights into safety and failure mechanisms

Understanding lithium-ion battery failure under mechanical abuse is critical for safety. While continuous compression is studied, the effects of intermittent loading and its interaction with State of Charge (SOC) are less understood. This study experimentally investigates the mechano-electrochemo-thermal failure of 18650 NMC cells under continuous versus intermittent compression across various SOCs (20 %–80 %), monitoring mechanical, electrical, and thermal responses. Results revealed complex, non-linear failure mechanisms. High SOC consistently increased failure susceptibility (earlier failure, lower deformation tolerance). Intermittent compression proved significantly more hazardous than continuous loading, particularly at high SOC, accelerating internal damage and causing earlier, more severe thermal runaway, often initiated by identifiable soft short circuits (multi-stage voltage drops). Crucially, stiffness exhibited complex, mode-dependent behavior: non-monotonic under continuous compression (peaking at SOC 20 %) versus a generally monotonic increase under intermittent compression, highlighting loading pattern influence. The anode was the primary heat source during thermal runaway, and anomalous behavior was noted at SOC 60 %. These findings highlight the limitations of standard continuous crush tests and the need to incorporate intermittent loading in safety assessments. The complex, mode- and SOC-dependent mechanical responses provide critical data for robust battery pack design (considering stiffness variations and fatigue) and inform Battery Management system (BMS) failure precursor detection. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Multiplexed model predictive attitude control for nadir-pointing satellite using only magnetorquers

Due to the low failure risk of magnetorquers, the control strategy based on magnetic actuators can significantly enhance the reliability of the satellite attitude control system. In light of this advantage, this paper conducts research on model predictive control (MPC) algorithm for nadir-pointing satellites equipped only with magnetorquers. Firstly, to facilitate controller design, the linear time-varying (LTV) model for nadir-pointing satellites is derived by linearizing the nonlinear equations around the operating point. Then, leveraging this linearized representation, an LTV multiplexed MPC (MMPC) method with exponential weighting is proposed. The MMPC scheme allows for faster sampling rates and quicker responses to disturbances, thereby enhancing the overall performance of the satellite attitude control system while retaining the benefits of MPC. Finally, compared with a state-of-the-art SMPC method, the proposed method is particularly advantageous in situations where computational resources are limited, specifically for satellites that rely only on onboard computing capabilities. © 2025

Safe RL-based Adaptive Cooperative Game control of Wing Deformation and Flight State Tracking for Morphing Hypersonic Vehicles

This study addresses the issue of adaptive cooperative game control (ACGC) design for wing deformation and flight state tracking of morphing hypersonic vehicles (MHVs) with variable wing shapes, input constraints and state constraints. To access a better flight control performance, the wing deformation parameter is extended in this work as an auxiliary control input. An oriented-coordinated-control nonlinear differential equation model is first established to describe the complicated longitudinal flight state tracking error dynamics of the MHV. Then, a control barrier function (CBF) is introduced and incorporated into the value function as a risk penalty term of state security constraint. Based on the differential game (DG) theory, the optimal coordinated control problem for the MHV with input constraints and state constraints is treated as a constrained cooperative DG that is further formulated as a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation with barrier and hyperbolic functions. A safe RL algorithm is proposed to solve the above HJB equation and an online Pareto joint control strategy is achieved thereby. Hereafter the stability analysis of the closed-loop state tracking error system is done by the Lyapunov technique. Meanwhile, both state and input constraints are met during the the parameter learning regulation process. At last, a simulation study is performed to support the proposed safe RL-ACGC algorithm. © 2025 IEEE.

Adaptive Backstepping Slide Mode control of Pneumatic Position Servo system

With the price decreasing of the pneumatic proportional valve and the high performance micro controller, the simple structure and high tracking performance pneumatic servo system demonstrates more application potential in many fields. However, most existing control methods with high tracking performance need to know the model information and to use pressure sensor. This limits the application of the pneumatic servo system. An adaptive backstepping slide mode control method is proposed for pneumatic position servo system. The proposed method designs adaptive slide mode controller using backstepping design technique. The controller parameter adaptive law is derived from Lyapunov analysis to guarantee the stability of the system. A theorem is testified to show that the state of closed-loop system is uniformly bounded, and the closed-loop system is stable. The advantages of the proposed method include that system dynamic model parameters are not required for the controller design, uncertain parameters bounds are not need, and the bulk and expensive pressure sensor is not needed as well. Experimental performance, as compared with some existing methods. results show that the designed controller can achieve better tracking

Immune particle swarm optimization of linear frequency modulation in acoustic communication

With the exploration of the ocean, underwater acoustic communication has attracted more and more attention in recent years. The underwater acoustic channel is considered to be one of the most complicated channels because it suffers from more serious multipath effect, fewer available bandwidths and quite complex noise. Since the signals experience a serious distortion after being transmitted through the underwater acoustic channel, the underwater acoustic communication experiences a high bit error rate （BER）. To solve this problem, carrier waveform inter- displacement （CWlD） modulation is proposed. It has been proved that CWlD modulation is an effective method to decrease BER. The linear frequency modulation （LFM） carrier-waves are used in CWlD modulation. The performance of the communication using CWID modulation is sensitive to the change of the frequency band of LFM carrier-waves. The immune particle swarm optimization （IPSO） is introduced to search for the optimal frequency band of the LFM carrier-waves, due to its excellent performance in solving complicated optimization problems. The multi-objective and multi- peak optimization nature of the IPSO gives a suitable description of the relationship between the upper band and the lower band of the LFM carrier-waves. Simulations verify the improved perfor- mance and effectiveness of the optimization method.
