In visual relationship detection, human-notated relationships can be regarded as determinate relationships. However, there are still large amount of unlabeled data, such as object pairs with less significant relationships or even with no relationships. We refer to these unlabeled but potentially useful data as undetermined relationships. Although a vast body of literature exists, few methods exploit these undetermined relationships for visual relationship detection. In this paper, we explore the beneficial effect of undetermined relationships on visual relationship detection. We propose a novel multi-modal feature based undetermined relationship learning network (MF-URLN) and achieve great improvements in relationship detection. In detail, our MF-URLN automatically generates undetermined relationships by comparing object pairs with human-notated data according to a designed criterion. Then, the MF-URLN extracts and fuses features of object pairs from three complementary modals: Visual, spatial, and linguistic modals. Further, the MF-URLN proposes two correlated subnetworks: One subnetwork decides the determinate confidence, and the other predicts the relationships. We evaluate the MF-URLN on two datasets: The Visual Relationship Detection (VRD) and the Visual Genome (VG) datasets. The experimental results compared with state-of-the-art methods verify the significant improvements made by the undetermined relationships, e.g., the top-50 relation detection recall improves from 19.5% to 23.9% on the VRD dataset. QQqq in a chiral constituent quark model

Inspired by Ξccreported by LHCb Collaboration and X(5568) reported by D0 Collaboration, the QQqq (Q = c, b, q = u, d) tetraquark states, are studied in the present work. With the help of Gaussian expansion method, two structures, diquark-antiquark and meson-meson, with all possible color configurations are investigated systematically in a chiral quark model to search for the possible stable states. The results show that there is no bound state in the isovector QQqq system, while there are rather deep bound states in the isoscalar bbqq, ccqq and bcqq systems. Mixing two structures of diquark-antidiquark and meson-meson can introduce more attractions and convert some unbound isoscalar states into shallow bound states. The large mass of the heavy quark is beneficial to the formation of the bound state. The separations between quarks are calculated to unravel the spacial structure of the system. Deep Modular Co-Attention networks for visual question answering

Visual Question Answering (VQA) requires a finegrained and simultaneous understanding of both the visual content of images and the textual content of questions. Therefore, designing an effective 'co-attention' model to associate key words in questions with key objects in images is central to VQA performance. So far, most successful attempts at co-attention learning have been achieved by using shallow models, and deep co-attention models show little improvement over their shallow counterparts. In this paper, we propose a deep Modular Co-Attention Network (MCAN) that consists of Modular Co-Attention (MCA) layers cascaded in depth. Each MCA layer models the self-attention of questions and images, as well as the guided-attention of images jointly using a modular composition of two basic attention units. We quantitatively and qualitatively evaluate MCAN on the benchmark VQA-v2 dataset and conduct extensive ablation studies to explore the reasons behind MCAN's effectiveness. Experimental results demonstrate that MCAN significantly outperforms the previous state-ofthe- A rt. Our best single model delivers 70.63% overall accuracy on the test-dev set. With the development of machine learning technology in various fields, such as medical care, smart manufacturing, etc., the data has exploded. It is a challenge to train a deep learning model for different application domains with large-scale data and limited resources of a single device. The distributed machine-learning technology, which uses a parameter server and multiple clients to train a model collaboratively, is an excellent method to solve this problem. However, it needs much communication between different devices with limited communication resources. The stale synchronous parallel method is a mainstream communication method to solve this problem, but it always leads to high synchronization delay and low computing efficiency as the inappropriate delay threshold value set by the user based on experience. This paper proposes a synchronous parallel method with parameters communication prediction for distributed machine learning. It predicts the optimal timing for synchronization, which can solve the problem of long synchronization waiting time caused by the inappropriate threshold settings in the stale synchronous parallel method. Moreover, it allows fast nodes to continue local training while performing global synchronization, which can improve the resource utilization of work nodes. Experimental results show that compared with the delayed synchronous parallel method, the training time and quality, and resource usage of our method are both significantly improved. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2024.

As the rapid growth of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) and 5G intensifies, more third-party applications are increasingly being deployed on CAVs. They not only improve user experience but also provide more helpful services, for example, enhancing public safety by recognizing criminals in real-time videos. Current CAVs prefer to process collected data on the vehicle to avoid long transmission latency and extra network cost. However, due to the limitations of the on-board vehicle computing unit (VCU) and increasing use of computing-intensive in-vehicle applications, the burden of on-board VCU has sharply increased, which may affect driving safety. In particular, for existing vehicles on the road, adding more computing devices is a challenge if not impossible due to cost concerns. Inspired by edge computing, we propose a novel platform, MobileEdge, to enhance the computing capability of the unchangeable on-board VCU, which leverages mobile devices as edge nodes, e.g., the passengers' smartphones, by offloading computing tasks to them for collaboratively computing. Moreover, MobileEdge provides the dynamic management of mobile devices, monitoring device status and interfaces for customizable task offloading strategies and eventually achieves optimal task scheduling. We build a prototype to demonstrate the designed platform and evaluate three task offloading strategies which were implemented based on the developed interfaces. The results show that MobileEdge significantly reduces the application response latency. Compared with the baseline which does not employ task offloading, the response latency is almost near real-time when more computing resources are available. In addition, the proposed shortest response latency strategy outperforms the best overall task scheduling among the three strategies.

Triply charm and bottom tetraquarks in a constituent quark model

Singly, doubly, and fully charmed tetraquark candidates, e.g., Tcs¯(2900), Tcc+(3875), and X(6900) have been recently reported by the LHCb collaboration. Therefore, it is timely to implement a theoretical investigation on triply heavy tetraquark systems; herein, the S-wave triply charm and bottom tetraquarks, Q¯Qq¯Q (q=u,d,s;Q=c,b), with spin-parity JP=0+, 1+, and 2+, isospin I=0 and 12, are systematically studied in a constituent quark model. Besides, all tetraquark configurations, i.e., meson-meson, diquark-antidiquark, and K-type arrangements, along with any allowed color structure, are comprehensively considered. The Gaussian expansion method (GEM), in combination with the complex-scaling method (CSM), which is quite ingenious in dealing with either bound or resonances, is the approach adopted in solving the complex scaled Schrödinger equation. This theoretical framework has already been applied in various tetra- and pentaquark systems. In a fully coupled-channel calculation within the GEM+CSM, narrow resonances are found in each I(JP) channel of the charm and bottom sector. In particular, triply charm and bottom tetraquark resonances are obtained in 5.6–5.9 GeV and 15.3–15.7 GeV, respectively. We provide also some insights of the compositeness of these exotic states, such as the inner quark distance, magnetic moment and dominant wave function component. All this may help to distinguish them in future high energy nuclear and particle experiments.

Visualization of signalized intersections in driving simulator and validity of driving behaviors in virtual environments

Visualization of highway traffic environments in virtual reality plays a key role on fidelity of simulation and validity of driving behaviors in driving simulator studies. This paper describes a procedure to replicate a signalized intersection with many complex features into a driving simulator's 3-D databases through building a graphical visual database, constructing a road motion database, and creating simulated traffic. The validity of the visualization was assessed via the comparison of the drivers' speeds in the simulator and the speed data at the real intersection. It was found that both speed data follow normal distributions and have equal means for each intersection approach;however, that the speeds measured in the driving simulator have a larger variability than those measured in the field. The users' subjective evaluation results indicated that 92% subjects could recognize the simulated intersection in the driving simulator experiment. Therefore, the strategy of geo-specific environment modeling would be useful for studying driving behaviors in virtual environments.

Previous researches have well demonstrated the importance of costly punishment for promoting the evolution of cooperation, while it remains unconsidered sides about the punishment. Recent evidences highlight that punishment cannot promote cooperation when punishment can be targeted at cooperators. In this paper, we study the evolutionary process of cooperation in the well-mixed population when the presence of antisocial punishment. Here cooperator can optionally adopt an insurance strategy which incurs an extra cost to resist the threat of antisocial punishment, and she will obtain compensation when being punished by antisocial punisher in the future. With this strategy, cooperators can opportunistically adjust their behavior, which makes cooperators evolve advantageously, and improve individuals' average payoff in population.
