China’s carbon neutrality:an extensive and profound systemic reform

China is the largest developing economy and carbon dioxide emitter in the world,the carbon neutrality goal of which will have a profound influence on the mitigation pathway of global climate *** transition towards a carbon-neutral society is integrated into the construction of ecological civilization in China,and brings profound implications for China’s socioeconomic ***,we not only summarize the major challenges in achieving carbon neutrality in China,but also identify the four potential new opportunities:namely,the acceleration of technology innovations,narrowing regional disparity by reshaping the value of resources,transforming the industrial structure,and co-benefits of pollution and carbon ***,we provide five policy suggestions and highlight the importance of balancing economic growth and carbon mitigation,and the joint efforts among the government,the enterprises,and the residents.

Interference-assisted energy harvesting short packet communications with hardware impairments

Radio frequency energy harvesting offers a promising solution to provide low power Internet of Things (IoT) devices with convenient and perpetual energy supply. In this work, we investigate the reliable performance of an energy-constrained transmitter communicating with a receiver over Nakagami-m channel, where the effects of transceiver hardware impairments and finite blocklength coding are jointly considered. Specifically, the communication link between the transmitter and receiver operates within the coverage of an existing wireless system, with radio frequency signal from the existing system serving as an energy signal for the transmitter while acting as an interference signal for the receiver. By utilizing the finite-blocklength information theory, we first derive average block error rate (BLER) and asymptotic average BLER in closed-form expressions, which enable us to quantify the extent of reliability loss. Then, we analyze effective throughput of the system, and determine the optimal blocklength that maximizes the effective throughput. Computer simulations are employed to validate the accuracy of our analytical findings, demonstrating the presence of an outage threshold solely due to hardware impairments. Furthermore, if transmission rate exceeds the outage threshold defined by the level of hardware impairments, reliable communication within the system under consideration cannot be achieved, regardless of the transmit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). © 2024 The Authors

Over the past century,ferroelectricity has offered exciting opportunities for fundamental research and device ***,most of the discovered excellent ferroelectrics are oxide materials with large band gaps,limiting their potential for optoelectronics *** using first-principles calculations we identify a new narrow-gap ferroelectric beyond oxides,i.e.,ferroelectric perovskite sulphide BaZrS_(3).Under large compressive strains,BaZrS_(3)can be stabilized into a unique supertetragonal phase with an extraordinary polarization of 67.16μC/cm^(2),which is even stronger than that of conventional oxide ***,the supertetragonal BaZrS_(3)exhibits a direct narrow band gap of 1.2 eV and excellent electronic *** on the chemical bonding analysis,we attribute the formation of supertetragonal phase to charge re-ordering in which theπbond overlap along the long〈Zr-S〉bond completely vanishes and the antibonding states of theσbond appear below the Fermi *** work provides a conceptual strategy for designing new ferroelectrics for electronic and photovoltaic applications.

Secure short-packet communications using a full-duplex receiver

In this work, we consider the physical layer security in short-packet communications, where a full-duplex (FD) receiver receives information signals from a source while generating artificial noise (AN) to confuse an eavesdropper. Taking into account the finite blocklength coding and the self-interference (SI) in FD mode, we derive new approximation closed-form expression for the secrecy throughput. Moreover, we analyze the asymptotic secrecy throughput in two distinct scenarios, i.e., high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime and infinite blocklength coding, to gain more insights. Our examination illustrates the correctness of our expressions and shows how the critical system variables affect the secrecy throughput. © 2023 The Authors

Metadata extraction from scholarly PDF documents is the fundamental work of publishing, archiving, digital library construction, bibliometrics, and scientific competitiveness analysis and evaluations. However, different scholarly PDF documents have different layout and document elements, which make it impossible to compare different extract approaches since testers use different source of test documents even if the documents are from the same journal or conference. Therefore, standard datasets based performance evaluation of various extraction approaches can setup a fair and reproducible comparison. In this paper we present a dataset, namely, PARDA(Pdf Analysis and Recognition DAtaset), for performance evaluation and analysis of scholarly documents, especially on metadata extraction, such as title, authors, affiliation, author-affiliation-email matching, year, date, etc. The dataset covers computer science, physics, life science, management, mathematics, and humanities from various publishers including ACM, IEEE, Springer, Elsevier, arXiv, etc. And each document has distinct layouts and appearance in terms of formatting of metadata. We also construct the ground truth metadata in Dublin Core XML format and BibTex format file associated this dataset. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

The OraCDP disaster recovery system uses CDP disaster recovery technology based on the combination of block level, combining with the communication coupling between the underlying I/O and Oracle database. The experimental results show that the OraCDP system can not only maintain the normal operation of the original system without any negative influence, but also guarantee the recovery of data and service at specific time quickly, fully and accurately. © 2015 SERSC.

There have two effective ways to improve the overall efficiency of the object-based distributed storage system, one is network caching technology and the other is metadata server cluster load balancing strategy. Under the heterogeneous storage environments, object-based distributed file system face the key challenge of lacking caching mechanism for the high-frequency access files, metadata server load imbalance also reduce the overall efficiency. To address these challenges, we discuss the design and implementation of an object-based distributed file storage caching system, and propose a weight-based metadata server cluster load balancing strategy. It effectively improve the metadata processing capacity. Based on the results, it demonstrated the feasibility and the efficiency of our methods. © 2015 SERSC.

A new generation memory, Non-Volatile Memory (NVM), such as Phase-Change Memory (PCM), has been adopted together with DRAM in the main memory to form the hybrid main memory for low energy consumption and high capacity. The biggest challenge of hybrid memory is how to decrease the average memory access cost for the higher cost of NVM's read/write operation. Currently, most researches are based on migration. However, the page migration itself is a high cost operation. And the migration based policy produces many migration operations, which induces high cost in memory access. Therefore, in order to decrease the cost, we present a virtual page behavior based page management policy (VBPM) in this paper. According to the virtual pages' behavior, we allocate virtual pages into DRAM or PCM physical pages correspondingly. The whole process is migration independent. The experimental results show our VBPM decreases the average memory access time by 24%, moreover, VBPM improves real-time performance in critical path. © 2016 IEEE.

As a new service paradigm of Software-As-A-Service (SaaS),Business Process-As-A-Service (BPaaS). BPaaS is used to build a cost-effective Business Process Management (BPM) system. Based on universal Artifacts, we develop a framework named SeGA (Self-Guided Artifact). In SeGA, a BPM system is capable of executing business processes from multiple clients, and responding query at runtime. what's more, by the template-based cascading data mapping method, entity to be synchronized with database automatically, so each BP instance can modify its process entity without worrying about the database access. In this paper, we conduct a deep research and implement a prototype system for Artifact process design.

Federated learning is a distributedmachine learningmethod that can solve the increasingly serious problemof data islands and user data privacy,as it allows training data to be kept locally and not shared with other *** trains a globalmodel by aggregating locally-computedmodels of clients rather than their ***,the divergence of local models caused by data heterogeneity of different clients may lead to slow convergence of the global *** this problem,we focus on the client selection with federated learning,which can affect the convergence performance of the global model with the selected local *** propose FedChoice,a client selection method based on loss function optimization,to select appropriate local models to improve the convergence of the global *** firstly sets selected probability for clients with the value of loss function,and the client with high loss will be set higher selected probability,which can make them more likely to participate in ***,it introduces a local control vector and a global control vector to predict the local gradient direction and global gradient direction,respectively,and calculates the gradient correction vector to correct the gradient direction to reduce the cumulative deviationof the local gradient causedby *** experiments to verify the validity of FedChoice on CIFAR-10,CINIC-10,MNIST,EMNITS,and FEMNIST datasets,and the results show that the convergence of FedChoice is significantly improved,compared with FedAvg,FedProx,and FedNova.
