Distributed stochastic projection-free solver for constrained optimization

This paper proposes a distributed stochastic projection-free algorithm for large-scale constrained finite-sum optimization whose constraint set is complicated such that the projection onto the constraint set can be expensive. The global cost function is allocated to multiple agents, each of which computes its local stochastic gradients and communicates with its neighbors to solve the global problem. Stochastic gradient methods enable low computational cost, while they are hard and slow to converge due to the variance caused by random sampling. To construct a convergent distributed stochastic projection-free algorithm, this paper incorporates a variance reduction technique and gradient tracking technique in the Frank-Wolfe update. We develop a sampling rule for the variance reduction technique to reduce the variance introduced by stochastic gradients. Complete and rigorous proofs show that the proposed distributed projection-free algorithm converges with a sublinear convergence rate and enjoys superior complexity guarantees for both convex and non-convex objective functions. Multivariate extreme value distributions are a common choice for modelling multivariate extremes. In high dimensions, however, the construction of flexible and parsimonious models is challenging. We propose to combine bivariate max-stable distributions into a Markov random field with respect to a tree. Although in general not max-stable itself, this Markov tree is attracted by a multivariate max-stable distribution. The latter serves as a tree-based approximation to an unknown max-stable distribution with the given bivariate distributions as margins. Given data, we learn an appropriate tree structure by Prim’s algorithm with estimated pairwise upper tail dependence coefficients as edge weights. The distributions of pairs of connected variables can be fitted in various ways. Speech emotion recognition systems have high prediction latency because of the high computational requirements for deep learning models and low generalizability mainly because of the poor reliability of emotional measurements across multiple corpora. To solve these problems, we present a speech emotion recognition system based on a reductionist approach of decomposing and analyzing syllable-level features. Mel-spectrogram of an audio stream is decomposed into syllable-level components, which are then analyzed to extract statistical features. The proposed method uses formant attention, noise-gate filtering, and rolling normalization contexts to increase feature processing speed and tolerance to adversity. A set of syllable-level formant features is extracted and fed into a single hidden layer neural network that makes predictions for each syllable as opposed to the conventional approach of using a sophisticated deep learner to make sentence-wide predictions. The syllable level predictions help to achieve the real-time latency and lower the aggregated error in utterance level cross-corpus predictions. The experiments on IEMOCAP (IE), MSP-Improv (MI), and RAVDESS (RA) databases show that the method archives real-time latency while predicting with state-of-the-art cross-corpus unweighted accuracy of 47.6% for IE to MI and 56.2% for MI to IE. Along with economic globalization, the shoes and clothing market is undergoing huge changes and is facing increasing individualized demands. To realize personalized customization, we propose a social manufacturing pattern for the shoes and clothing industry. On the customer side, we collect costumer information with the help of 3D scanning and virtual fitting. On the production side, we replace human labor with intelligent production equipment. On the enterprise management side, we construct a cloud platform to realize source maximization. Through this social manufacturing pattern, we expect to accelerate the intelligent reform of the shoes and clothing industry. © 2021 IEEE.

Precisely forecasting air temperature as a significant meteorological parameter has a critical role in environment quality management. Hence, this study employs a hybrid intelligent model for accurately monthly temperature forecasting for one to three times ahead in the hottest and coldest regions of the world. The hybrid model contains the artificial neural network (ANN) hybridized with the powerful hetaeristic Honey Badger Algorithm (HBA-ANN). The average mutual information (AMI) technique is employed to find the optimal time delay values for the temperature variable for different time horizons. Finally, the performance of the developed hybrid model is compared with the classical ANN and the Gene Expression Programming (GEP) using some statistical criteria, and the Taylor and scatter diagrams. Results indicated that in each time horizon, the HBA-ANN model with the lowest distance from observation points based on Taylor diagram, high values for NSE and R², and low values for RMSE, MAE, and RSR outperformed the ANN and GEP models in both training and testing phases. Hence, using the Honey Badger Algorithm could increase the accuracy of the model. This model's precise performance supports the case for it to be employed to forecast other environmental parameters. © 2023 The Author(s). In the environment of limited electricity supply in distribution network, due to the limitation of its own power capacity and the uncertainty of new energy output, there will be insufficient electricity supply in microgrid, which will affect the economy and comfort of users in microgrid system. Therefore, aiming at the situation of limited electricity supply in distribution network, multi-microgrid system is taken as the research object, and the cooperative game method is adopted to realize the energy sharing of multi-microgrid system, and then the limited electricity optimal dispatching model of multi-microgrid system is constructed to realize the reasonable power distribution for different types of loads. Finally, the simulation results show that this strategy can effectively realize power sharing, reduce outage loss and improve user satisfaction.

This study aims to investigate the problem of attitude control for a spacecraft with inertial uncertainties, external disturbances, and communication restrictions. An event-triggered active disturbance rejection control approach is proposed for attitude tracking of the spacecraft. An event-triggered mechanism is introduced together with an extended state observer to jointly monitor the system states and total disturbances. The observation error is proved to be uniformly bounded. Based on the proposed control scheme,the integrated tracking system is shown to be asymptotically stable, implying successful attitude tracking of the spacecraft for the desired motion. Numerical results illustrate the effectiveness of the control strategy in achieving satisfactory tracking performance with a reduced data-transmission cost.

A railroad technical operation station is an extensive and complex operation system and a variety of random disturbing factors further increase the complexity of its command and dispatching. To enhance the railroad technical operation stations' intelligence, and integration level, and enhance its dispatching management ability of complex operation plans, based on the ACP approach, this paper designs the parallel dispatching system (PDS) architecture, and describes its key technologies including the artificial dispatching system (ADS), computing experiments, parallel execution, etc. On the basis of the artificial dispatching system, computational experiments can optimize various types of technical operations and the overall operational process, to achieve parallel execution between the actual dispatching system and ADS. PDS can provide more efficient and intelligent command and dispatching solutions for railroad technical work stations, and promote the development of the railroad transportation industry in the direction of higher quality and efficiency. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we consider the partial quantum consensus problem of a qubit network in a distributed view. The local quantum operation is designed based on the Hamiltonian by using the local information of each quantum system in a network of qubits. We construct the unitary transformation for each quantum system to achieve the partial quantum consensus, i.e., the directions of the quantum states in the Bloch ball will reach an agreement. A simple case of two-qubit quantum systems is considered first, and a minimum completing time of reaching partial consensus is obtained based on the geometric configuration of each qubit. Furthermore, we extend the approaches to deal with the more general N-qubit networks. Two partial quantum consensus protocols, based on the Lyapunov method for chain graphs and the geometry method for connected graphs, are proposed. The geometry method can be utilized to deal with more general connected graphs, while for the Lyapunov method, the global consensus can be obtained. The numerical simulation over a qubit network is demonstrated to verify the validity and the effectiveness of the theoretical results. © 2024, CC BY.
