Edge inference (EI) is a key solution to address the growing challenges of delayed response times, limited scalability, and privacy concerns in cloud-based Deep Neural Network (DNN) inference. However, deploying DNN models on resource-constrained edge devices faces more severe challenges, such as model storage limitations, dynamic service requests, and privacy risks. This paper proposes a novel framework for privacy-aware joint DNN model deployment and partition optimization to minimize long-term average inference delay under resource and privacy constraints. Specifically, the problem is formulated as a complex optimization problem considering model deployment, user-server association, and model partition strategies. To handle the NP-hardness and future uncertainties, a Lyapunov-based approach is introduced to transform the long-term optimization into a single-time-slot problem, ensuring system performance. Additionally, a coalition formation game model is proposed for edge server association, and a greedy-based algorithm is developed for model deployment within each coalition to efficiently solve the problem. Extensive simulations show that the proposed algorithms effectively reduce inference delay while satisfying privacy constraints, outperforming baseline approaches in various scenarios. The four-step transportation model plays an important role in urban planning. The quality of the first phase, i.e. trip generation, determines the performance of the global course. The majority of trip generation forecasting models highly rely on mathematical derivation and have many predictor variables during the prediction, which leads to low accuracy of results and requires laboriously hand-crafted design of input vectors. This paper is the first to introduce the gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) algorithm for trip generation prediction, and harmonizes such a powerful machine learning method with traditional urban planning requirements to achieve better prediction performance. Unlike the commonly used linear regression method, GBDT can automatically perform feature selection and model the non-linear relationships between input and output variables. Experimental results on real-world residential travel census in Beijing prove that the GBDT model significantly outperforms the baseline and can forecast the trip generation more accurately. © 2021 IEEE.

Medical image registration is vital for disease diagnosis and treatment with its ability to merge diverse information of images, which may be captured under different times, angles, or modalities. Although several surveys have reviewed the development of medical image registration, these surveys have not systematically summarized methodologies of existing medical image registration methods. To this end, we provide a comprehensive review of these methods from traditional and deep learning-based directions, aiming to help audiences understand the development of medical image registration quickly. In particular, we review recent advances in retinal image registration at the end of each section, which has not attracted much attention. Additionally, we also discuss the current challenges of retinal image registration and provide insights and prospects for future research. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Adaptive Backdoor Attacks with Reasonable Constraints on Graph Neural Networks

Recent studies show that graph neural networks (GNNs) are vulnerable to backdoor attacks. Existing backdoor attacks against GNNs use fixed-pattern triggers and lack reasonable trigger constraints, overlooking individual graph characteristics and rendering insufficient evasiveness. To tackle the above issues, we propose ABARC, the first Adaptive Backdoor Attack with Reasonable Constraints, applying to both graph-level and node-level tasks in GNNs. For graph-level tasks, we propose a subgraph backdoor attack independent of the graph’s topology. It dynamically selects trigger nodes for each target graph and modifies node features with constraints based on graph similarity, feature range, and feature type. For node-level tasks, our attack begins with an analysis of node features, followed by selecting and modifying trigger features, which are then constrained by node similarity, feature range, and feature type. Furthermore, an adaptive edge-pruning mechanism is designed to reduce the impact of neighbors on target nodes, ensuring a high attack success rate (ASR). Experimental results show that even with reasonable constraints for attack evasiveness, our attack achieves a high ASR while incurring a marginal clean accuracy drop (CAD). When combined with the state-of-the-art defense randomized smoothing (RS) method, our attack maintains an ASR over 94%, surpassing existing attacks by more than 7%. © 2004-2012 IEEE. Machine learning, classification, and clustering techniques use the distance functions to evaluate the proximity between data entries and deduce the best neighbouring element and the closest matching entry. The best neighbour is not only the closest neighbour but a neighbour that is quick to respond. In view of that, a time-based isochronous metric is introduced to evaluate the best neighbours and form linkages by grouping similar entities. The proposed method uses parametric equations of the fastest descent and solves the time variables for attributes localised in curved space–time. The time metric is compared with commonly used distance metrics for accuracy in classification and clustering using benchmark and commonly used datasets. The nearest-neighbour technique is used for evaluating classification accuracy, and an adjusted random index (ARI) is used to evaluate clustering. The proposed method shows better accuracy and ARI in comparison to distance functions. It also assigns better weights to attributes of the dataset and easily identifies repeated patterns in noisy time series data.

This paper investigates the problem of outlier-resistant distributed fusion filtering(DFF)for a class of multi-sensor nonlinear singular systems(MSNSSs)under a dynamic event-triggered scheme(DETS).To relieve the effect of measurement outliers in data transmission,a self-adaptive saturation function is ***,to further reduce the energy consumption of each sensor node and improve the efficiency of resource utilization,a DETS is adopted to regulate the frequency of data *** the addressed MSNSSs,our purpose is to construct the local outlier-resistant filter under the effects of the measurement outliers and the DETS;the local upper bound(UB)on the filtering error covariance(FEC)is derived by solving the difference equations and minimized by designing proper filter ***,according to the local filters and their UBs,a DFF algorithm is presented in terms of the inverse covariance intersection fusion *** such,the proposed DFF algorithm has the advantages of reducing the frequency of data transmission and the impact of measurement outliers,thereby improving the estimation ***,the uniform boundedness of the filtering error is discussed and a corresponding sufficient condition is ***,the validity of the developed algorithm is checked using a simulation example.

Recently, compressed sensing（CS） has been widely used in ground penetrating radar（GPR） imaging due to its low sampling time, high quality performance and high quality underground imaging results. There are always a large number of matrix operations involved in CS based GPR imaging process, which takes a long time. Traditionally, all scanning area was imaged by this CS imaging method. However, with the imaging scene becoming larger, the measurement matrix and the data dictionary in CS imaging model expand, which increases the time of CS-based imaging process. Thus, this paper proposes a fast CS based GPR imaging method to reduce the imaging time. Specifically, the geometric characteristics of the B-scan image can firstly be used to extract the region of interest（ROI） where the target may exist in a layered medium. Then the GPR imaging based on CS can be realized in ROI, which can reduce the imaging area and imaging time. Experimental results present that the method can effectively reduce the time of GPR imaging based on CS.

Modified weak-value-amplification technique for measuring a mirror's velocity based on the Vernier effect

A modified weak-value-amplification (MWVA) technique to measure a mirror's velocity based on the Vernier effect is proposed. To demonstrate its enhanced sensitivity and higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), we use two cascaded Michelson interferometers with similar optical structures. One has a fixed mirror and acts as a fixed part of the Vernier scale, while the other, with a moving mirror, acts as a sliding part of the Vernier scale for velocity sensing. The envelope of the cascaded interferometers shifts much more than a single one with a certain enhancement factor, which is related to the free space range difference between them. In addition, we calculate the SNR based on the Fisher information with both the MWVA and traditional weak-value-amplification (TWVA) techniques. The results show that both the SNR and the sensitivity with our MWVA technique is greater than that of the TWVA technique within the range of our time measurement window. In particular, MWVA can present a viable and effective alternative to the TWVA technique out of the limit of resolution. Furthermore, by using the principles of the Vernier effect, it is applicable and convenient to improve the sensitivity and SNR in measuring other quantities with the TWVA technique.

In order to meet the operational needs in some narrow environments, the hyper-redundant snake-shaped manipulator has received extensive attention and has been widely studied due to its compact shape and multiple degrees of freedom. At present, the research of hyper-redundant manipulator mainly focuses on the straight push platform. Considering the limitation of working space, this paper designed a hyper-redundant manipulator delivered by a curled turntable. According to the characteristics of turntable delivery, a tip-following algorithm based on curve fitting and a tip-following strategy based on terminal posture record are proposed. Finally, with the algorithm applied to the physical robot we made, we successfully realized the tip-following motion control of the hyper-redundant manipulator.

This study integrated an improved equivalent-input-disturbance (EID) and a repetitive control methods to ensure reference tracking and enhance disturbance-rejection performance for a pedaling rehabilitation robot. A repetitive controller ensures steady-state tracking of a periodic reference input. An EID estimator with a state observer estimates and compensates for the effect of disturbances generated by patients with lower-limb impairment. The stability condition of the closed-loop system is analyzed based on the Lyapunov stability theory. Simulation results show the effectiveness of this method.
