In-memory systems with erasure coding(EC)enabled are widely used to achieve high performance and data ***,as the scale of clusters grows,the server-level fail-slow problem is becoming increasingly frequent,which can create long tail *** influence of long tail latency is further amplified in EC-based systems due to the synchronous nature of multiple EC *** this paper,we propose an EC-enabled in-memory storage system called ShortTail,which can achieve consistent performance and low latency for both reads and ***,ShortTail uses a lightweight request monitor to track the performance of each memory node and identify any fail-slow ***,ShortTail selectively performs degraded reads and redirected writes to avoid accessing fail-slow ***,ShortTail posts an adaptive write strategy to reduce write amplification of small *** implement ShortTail on top of Memcached and compare it with two baseline *** experimental results show that ShortTail can reduce the P99 tail latency by up to 63.77%;it also brings significant improvements in the median latency and average latency.

Causality represents the most important kind of correlation between events. Extracting causality from text has become a promising hot topic in NLP. However, there is no mature research systems, evaluation rules and datasets for public evaluation. Moreover, there is a lack of unified causal sequence labeling methods, which constitute the key factors that hinder the progress of causality extraction research. We survey the limitations and shortcomings of existing causality research field comprehensively from the aspects of basic concepts, extraction methods, experimental data, and labeling methods, so as to provide reference for future research on causality extraction. We summarize the existing causality datasets, explore their practicability and extensibility from multiple perspectives. Aiming at the problem of causal sequence labeling, we analyze the existing methods of causal sequence labeling, with a summarizations of its regulation. Multiple candidate causal labeling sequences are put forward according to labeling controversy to explore the optimal labeling method through experiments, and suggestions are provided for selecting labeling method. © 2020 COLING 2020 - 28th International Conference on computational Linguistics, Proceedings of the Conference. Dual UAV Cluster-Assisted Maritime Physical Layer Secure Communications via Collaborative Beamforming

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can be utilized as relay platforms to assist maritime wireless communications. However, complex channels and multipath effects at sea can adversely affect the quality of UAV transmitted signals. Collaborative beamforming (CB) can enhance the signal strength and range to assist the UAV relay for remote maritime communications. However, due to the open nature of UAV channels, security issue requires special consideration. This paper proposes a dual UAV cluster-assisted system via CB to achieve physical layer security in maritime wireless communications. Specifically, one UAV cluster forms a maritime UAV-enabled virtual antenna array (MUVAA) relay to forward data signals to the remote legitimate vessel, and the other UAV cluster forms an MUVAA jammer to send jamming signals to the remote eavesdropper. In this system, we formulate a secure and energy-efficient maritime communication multi-objective optimization problem (SEMCMOP) to maximize the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the legitimate vessel, minimize the SINR of the eavesdropping vessel and minimize the total flight energy consumption of UAVs. Since the SEMCMOP is an NP-hard and large-scale optimization problem, we propose an improved swarm intelligence optimization algorithm with chaotic solution initialization and hybrid solution update strategies to solve the problem. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm outperforms other comparison algorithms, and it can achieve more efficient signal transmission by using the CB-based method. The servo motor’s flexible acceleration/deceleration(acc/dec) control is an emerging research topic in the automation field. A velocity control algorithm based on trigonometric function is proposed in this *** required parameters, it transforms trigonometric calculations into elementary mathematical operations and calculates the velocity controlling values iteratively, which could avoid trigonometric calculation and reduce the computation time. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is suitable for implementation on field programmable gate arrays and achieves a flexible controlling, enhancing both the equipment’s stability and reliability. It is promising to significantly improve the high-speed computerized numerical control equipment’s controlling accuracy, without a huge hardware resource consumption.

The deconvolution of infiltrating immune cells and stromal cells from complex tumor tissues is significant for studying the impact of these cells on tumor development, as well as assisting cancer therapies. Integrating cell-specific marker genes from several references, we put forward an AutoEncoder-based matrix factorization method to estimate the cell proportion in heterogeneous samples. The proportion predicted by our method achieved over 0.95 Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) with the ground truth. Moreover, through analyzing association between cell proportion of tumor tissues and clinical information of the tumor patients, we found that the proportion of cancer-associated fibroblast (CAF) gradually increased with the progress of tumor, and the proportion of B cell in tissues was significantly related to the five-year survival rate of tumor patients.

Dual Personalization on Federated Recommendation

Federated recommendation is a new Internet service architecture that aims to provide privacy-preserving recommendation services in federated settings. Existing solutions are used to combine distributed recommendation algorithms and privacy-preserving mechanisms. Thus it inherently takes the form of heavyweight models at the server and hinders the deployment of on-device intelligent models to end-users. This paper proposes a novel Personalized Federated Recommendation (PFedRec) framework to learn many user-specific lightweight models to be deployed on smart devices rather than a heavyweight model on a server. Moreover, we propose a new dual personalization mechanism to effectively learn fine-grained personalization on both users and items. The overall learning process is formulated into a unified federated optimization framework. Specifically, unlike previous methods that share exactly the same item embeddings across users in a federated system, dual personalization allows mild finetuning of item embeddings for each user to generate user-specific views for item representations which can be integrated into existing federated recommendation methods to gain improvements immediately. Experiments on multiple benchmark datasets have demonstrated the effectiveness of PFedRec and the dual personalization mechanism. Moreover, we provide visualizations and in-depth analysis of the personalization techniques in item embedding, which shed novel insights on the design of recommender systems in federated settings. Spatial Crowdsourcing (SC) is gaining traction in both academia and industry, with tasks on SC platforms becoming increasingly complex and requiring collaboration among workers with diverse skills. Recent research works address complex tasks by dividing them into subtasks with dependencies and assigning them to suitable workers. However, the dependencies among subtasks and their heterogeneous skill requirements, as well as the need for efficient utilization of workers’ limited work time in the multi-task allocation mode, pose challenges in achieving an optimal task allocation scheme. Therefore, this paper formally investigates the problem of Dependency-aware Multi-task Allocation (DMA) and presents a well-designed framework to solve it, known as Heterogeneous Graph Reinforcement Learning-based Task Allocation (HGRL-TA). To address the challenges associated with representing and embedding diverse problem instances to ensure robust generalization, we propose a multi-relation graph model and a Compound-path-based Heterogeneous Graph Attention Network (CHANet) for effectively representing and capturing intricate relations among tasks and workers, as well as providing embedding of problem state. The task allocation decision is determined sequentially by a policy network, which undergoes simultaneous training with CHANet using the proximal policy optimization algorithm. Extensive experiment results demonstrate the effectiveness and generality of the proposed HGRL-TA in solving the DMA problem, leading to average profits that is 21.78% higher than those achieved using the metaheuristic methods. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

The Traditional Chinese Medicine's ancient literature recorded the massive medical theories and abundant medical experiences. To better understand and utilize, the knowledge from the literature, the Acupuncture and Tuina knowledge Graph is proposed in this paper. Meanwhile, a deep learning network is established for acupuncture and tuina-related entity recognition and entity-relationship extraction. Finally, the trained network is able to reach an 82%+ F1-score for NER and 70%+ F1-score for relationship extraction. © 2021 IEEE.

Convergence-Aware Optimal Checkpointing for Exploratory Deep Learning Training Jobs

Training Deep Learning (DL) models are becoming more time-consuming, thus interruptions to the training processes are inevitable. Existing fault-tolerant work adopted checkpoint/recovery mechanism from traditional HPC platforms that makes periodical persistent copies of model states to save execution progress. These checkpoints have fixed time intervals that they are evenly placed across the training. We can obtain an optimal checkpointing interval for an HPC job with the precondition that the progress of a job is proportional to its execution time. Unfortunately, it is not the case in DL model training where a DL training job yields diminishing returns across its lifetime. It makes the early progress of a DL training job more valuable than the later ones. Even placement of checkpoints would either increase the risks in the early stages or waste resources overprotecting the latter stages. Meanwhile, the issue can get amplified for exploratory training jobs, where early terminations are common. Moreover, in data parallelism, the state-of-art quality-driven scheduling strategies allocate more resources for the early stages of a job than the later ones to accelerate the training progress which further amplifies the issue. This paper introduces a novel checkpointing interval problem for exploratory DL training jobs based on model convergence progress. We present COCI, an approach to compute optimal checkpointing configuration for a DL training job, minimizing the fault-tolerant overhead, including checkpointing cost and recovery cost. We implement COCI based on state-of-art iteration-level checkpointing mechanism, as a pluggable module compatible with PyTorch. COCI requires no extra user input. We conduct comprehensive evaluations with real DL application setups. The experimental results show that COCI reduces up to 40.18% fault-tolerant overhead compared to existing state-of-the-art DL fault-tolerant methods in serial scenario, 57.26% in data parallel scenario and 63.8

Location based social network develops and gets widely concern along with the population and widespread use of mobile. Point of interest(POI) recommendation become one of the most widely application among location-based service. To get better POI recommendation performance, a fuzzy clustering based collaborative filtering algorithm (FCCF) for time-Aware POI recommendation is proposed in this paper. It first constructs the user feature vector from users' check-in behaviours. Individual's check-in behaviour can be under the influence of location region and time slots, so user's feature consists of two parts. One is the vising frequency of each user in different location regions, and the other is the vising frequency of each user in different time slots. Next fuzzy c-means is adopted due to its simplicity to group users according to user feature vector. Then the user similarity computation can be limited in the similar small user groups. In the end, a collaborative filtering algorithm is applied to recommend a number of top-N POIs at a given time for the target user. Some experiments are conducted and the comparative results on Foursquare and Gowalla show that FCCF has higher precision and recall value than the comparative algorithms. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
