Computer science labs in universities have different demands in cloud computing compared with typical IT companies. They differ greatly in software requirements and resource utilization. As an instance, we propose building a private cloud based on microservices with Docker and Kubernetes in our laboratory to match our labs' typical *** private cloud proposed in this paper is composed of multiple components such as authentication, service gateway, distributed storage, knowledge management, code management, etc. Furthermore, some typical research software systems are deployed as microservices in the private cloud. To satisfy complex software environment requirements, a multi version microservice is implemented. In our microservices platform, users can submit their own microservices and manage these microservices' life cycle through a web interface. In addition, the platform will automatically start and stop low frequency services to improve resource utilization rate. We use laboratory resources to conduct experiments and build a platform. With deploying the platform in our laboratory, it shows that the platform meets most of typical demands in research work and improves research efficiency. © 2020 IEEE.

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) network is a promising technology for assisting Internet-of-Things (IoT), where a UAV can use its limited service coverage to harvest and disseminate data from IoT devices with low transmission abilities. The existing UAV-assisted data harvesting and dissemination schemes largely require UAVs to frequently fly between the IoTs and access points, resulting in extra energy and time costs. To reduce both energy and time costs, a key way is to enhance the transmission performance of IoT and UAVs. In this work, we introduce collaborative beamforming into IoTs and UAVs simultaneously to achieve energy and time-efficient data harvesting and dissemination from multiple IoT clusters to remote base stations (BSs). Except for reducing these costs, another non-ignorable threat lies in the existence of the potential eavesdroppers, whereas the handling of eavesdroppers often increases the energy and time costs, resulting in a conflict with the minimization of the costs. Moreover, the importance of these goals may vary relatively in different applications. Thus, we formulate a multi-objective optimization problem (MOP) to simultaneously minimize the mission completion time, signal strength towards the eavesdropper, and total energy cost of the UAVs. We prove that the formulated MOP is an NP-hard, mixed-variable optimization, and large-scale optimization problem. Thus, we propose a swarm intelligence-based algorithm to find a set of candidate solutions with different trade-offs which can meet various requirements in a low computational complexity. We also show that swarm intelligence methods need to enhance solution initialization, solution update, and algorithm parameter update phases when dealing with mixed-variable optimization and large-scale problems. Simulation results demonstrate the proposed algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art swarm intelligence algorithms and also show that the proposed method can reduce time and energy costs significantly

The integration of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) technology in 6G Internet of Things (IoT) networks faces significant challenges in remote areas and disaster scenarios where ground infrastructure is unavailable. This paper proposes a novel unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted mobile edge computing (MEC) system enhanced by directional antennas to provide both computational resources and energy support for ground IoT terminals. However, such systems require multiple trade-off policies to balance UAV energy consumption, terminal battery levels, and computational resource allocation under various constraints, including limited UAV battery capacity, non-linear energy harvesting characteristics, and dynamic task arrivals. To address these challenges comprehensively, we formulate a bi-objective optimization problem that simultaneously considers system energy efficiency and terminal battery sustainability. We then reformulate this non-convex problem with a hybrid solution space as a Markov decision process (MDP) and propose an improved soft actor-critic (SAC) algorithm with an action simplification mechanism to enhance its convergence and generalization capabilities. Simulation results have demonstrated that our proposed approach outperforms various baselines in different scenarios, achieving efficient energy management while maintaining high computational performance. Furthermore, our method shows strong generalization ability across different scenarios, particularly in complex environments, validating the effectiveness of our designed boundary penalty and charging reward mechanisms. © 2014 IEEE.

Medical scene graph contributes to cognitive tasks such as question answering. An automatic medical scene graph generator can annotate medical images with scene graphs conveniently. An end-to-end model is proposed, which contains an automatic medical scene graph generator based on medical images and surgery records. The novel model can extract symptom information of the images from surgery records via name entity recognition then convert it into scene graphs. The content and format of the scene graph are pre-defined according to the features of the images. A medical scene graph (MSG) dataset is also produced. The dataset contains 116 scene graphs where each graph includes 6 to 30 entities. Experiments show that our model performs well on making scene graphs of CT coronary angiography. Significantly, the scene graphs have the type, state, location, and index of arteries. To verify the practicability of the MSG dataset, We construct an intelligent model that can generate key diagnostic results. In addition, our medical scene graph generator can be applied to other medical areas to annotate different kinds of medical images intelligently. And the MSG dataset can directly be used in other cognitive visual tasks.

Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA) refers to a fine-grained task of detecting the sentiment polarities of sentences at the aspect level. To resolve this task, training samples of ABSA must be annotated with aspect words and the corresponding sentiment polarities. However, collecting such fine-grained training samples is expensive and time consuming. Therefore the available ABSA training samples are often scarce. To break the data scarcity challenge of ABSA, we investigate Semi-supervised Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (SemiABSA), which trains ABSA models by using a limited amount of expensive labeled sentences and more unlabeled-yet-cheaper ones. We propose a novel SemiABSA framework, namely Semi-supervised aspect-based Sentiment analysis with Masked aspect prediction (S3MAP), built on the self-training paradigm. For unlabeled sentences, we form pseudo-aspect words and pseudo-sentiment polarities and improve model training. Specifically, a BERT-Encoder-based Masked Aspect Prediction (MAP) task achieves the pseudo-aspect words generation. Based on S3MAP, we thoroughly investigate the potential of SemiABSA from various perspectives. Empirical results show that S3MAP can consistently improve the performance by leveraging unlabeled sentences even with those from different domains. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Wasserstein barycenter, built on the theory of Optimal Transport (OT), provides a powerful framework to aggregate probability distributions, and it has increasingly attracted great attention within the machine learning community. However, it is often intractable to precisely compute, especially for high dimensional and continuous settings. To alleviate this problem, we develop a novel regularization by using the fact that c-cyclical monotonicity is often necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality in OT problems, and incorporate it into the dual formulation of Wasserstein barycenters. For efficient computations, we adopt a variational distribution as the approximation of the true continuous barycenter, so as to frame the Wasserstein barycenters problem as an optimization problem with respect to variational parameters. Upon those ideas, we propose a novel end-to-end continuous approximation method, namely Variational Wasserstein Barycenters with c-Cyclical Monotonicity Regularization (VWB-CMR), given sample access to the input distributions. We show theoretical convergence analysis and demonstrate the superior performance of VWB-CMR on synthetic data and real applications of subset posterior aggregation. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. Object Attribute Matters in Visual Question Answering

Visual question answering is a multimodal task that requires the joint comprehension of visual and textual information. However, integrating visual and textual semantics solely through attention layers is insufficient to comprehensively understand and align information from both modalities. Intuitively, object attributes can naturally serve as a bridge to unify them, which has been overlooked in previous research. In this paper, we propose a novel VQA approach from the perspective of utilizing object attribute, aiming to achieve better object-level visual-language alignment and multimodal scene understanding. Specifically, we design an attribute fusion module and a contrastive knowledge distillation module. The attribute fusion module constructs a multimodal graph neural network to fuse attributes and visual features through message passing. The enhanced object-level visual features contribute to solving fine-grained problem like counting-question. The better object-level visual-language alignment aids in understanding multimodal scenes, thereby improving the model’s robustness. Furthermore, to augment scene understanding and the out-of-distribution performance, the contrastive knowledge distillation module introduces a series of implicit knowledge. We distill knowledge into attributes through contrastive loss, which further strengthens the representation learning of attribute features and facilitates visual-linguistic alignment. Intensive experiments on six datasets, COCO-QA, VQAv2, VQA-CPv2, VQA-CPv1, VQAvs and TDIUC, show the superiority of the proposed method. © 2023, CC BY.

Learning with Partial Labels from Semi-supervised Perspective

Partial Label (PL) learning refers to the task of learning from the partially labeled data, where each training instance is ambiguously equipped with a set of candidate labels but only one is valid. Advances in the recent deep PL learning literature have shown that the deep learning paradigms, e.g., self-training, contrastive learning, or class activate values, can achieve promising performance. Inspired by the impressive success of deep Semi-Supervised (SS) learning, we transform the PL learning problem into the SS learning problem, and propose a novel PL learning method, namely Partial Label learning with Semi-supervised Perspective (PLSP). Specifically, we first form the pseudo-labeled dataset by selecting a small number of reliable pseudo-labeled instances with high-confidence prediction scores and treating the remaining instances as pseudo-unlabeled ones. Then we design a SS learning objective, consisting of a supervised loss for pseudo-labeled instances and a semantic consistency regularization for pseudo-unlabeled instances. We further introduce a complementary regularization for those non-candidate labels to constrain the model predictions on them to be as small as possible. Empirical results demonstrate that PLSP significantly outperforms the existing PL baseline methods, especially on high ambiguity levels. Code available: https://***/changchunli/PLSP.
