Depth maps are used for synthesis virtual view in free-viewpoint television (FTV) systems. When depth maps are derived using existing depth estimation methods, the depth distortions will cause undesirable artifacts in the synthesized views. To solve this problem, a 3D video quality model base depth maps (D-3DV) for virtual view synthesis and depth map coding in the FTV applications is proposed. First, the relationships between distortions in coded depth map and rendered view are derived. Then, a precisely 3DV quality model based depth characteristics is develop for the synthesized virtual views. Finally, based on D-3DV model, a multilateral filtering is applied as a pre-processed filter to reduce rendering artifacts. The experimental results evaluated by objective and subjective methods indicate that the proposed D-3DV model can reduce bit-rate of depth coding and achieve better rendering quality.

Coverage quality is one critical metric to evaluate the Quality of Service (QoS) provided by wireless sensor net works. In this paper, we address maximum support coverage problem (a.k.a. best case coverage) in wireless sensor networks. Most of the existing work assume that the coverage degree is 1, i.e. every point on the resultant path should fall within the sensing range of at least one sensor node. Here we study the k -coverage problem, in which every point on the resultant path is covered by at least k sensors while optimizing certain objectives. We present tackle this problem under both centralized and distributed setting. The time complexity is bounded by O(k 2 n log n) where n is the number of deployed sensor nodes. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that presents polynomial time algorithms that find optimal k-support paths for a general k.

In the paper, scale parameter of Schrödinger transform of image is discussed. First, the experiments show Schrödinger transformation of image can be seen as the result of primitive image shrinking inside and spreading outward at the center of object, like as interference wave, and the bigger the parameter a is, the more obvious the interference is, on the other hand, contour curves of object in the transformed image are similar to contour curves of object in the original image. No-reference quality evaluation is more difficult because it does not refer to any image. However, in some cases, like virtual view images, can not find the reference image, no-reference method had to be used. With the free viewpoint video technology development and application, measuring the performance of the multiview video system is essential and virtual view image quality evaluation is one of the key technologies in the system. The characteristic of virtual view image quality evaluation is that most of the virtual view images haven't reference images and can't be assessed using general measures such as PSNR of full-reference. Therefore, this paper proposed a no-reference image quality evaluation method based on image power spectrum. Experimental results show that the proposed method is consistent with PSNR.

Inaccuracy depth estimation may influence on depth coding and virtual view rendering in the free-viewpoint television (FTV) system, an improved depth map estimation is proposed to solve the problem for coding and view synthesis. Firstly, check the consistency of initial depth, and the influence of initial miss-matches is minimized by introduction of an additional adaptive matching error selection that penalizes the unreliable matches. Then according to certain criteria, the multi-reference depth maps are merged into one disparity map to improve the quality of disparity map. Finally, a multilateral filtering is used to preserve details in the depth map and simultaneously smooth the depths in occluded areas at object boundary, less texture and discontinuity regions. Experimental results show a significant improvement of the initial input depth maps and coding efficiency, as well as a reduction of view synthesis artifacts.

Multi-view depth estimation is an important part in the virtual view synthesis and depth map coding within the 3DV/FTV applications. However, existing depth estimation methods generally have difficulty to generate good depth results around object edges or in areas with less texture. To solve this problem, we propose an improved algorithm to obtain a smooth and accurate depth map for view synthesis in 3D video coding. The proposed method aims to preserve details in the depth map and simultaneously smooth depths in object boundary occluded area, less texture and discontinuity regions, to avoid blurring in the synthesized views. Experimental results show a significant improvement of the initial input depth maps and coding efficiency, as well as a reduction of view synthesis artifacts.

In this paper, we study two tightly coupled topics in online social networks (OSN): relationship classification and information propagation. The links in a social network often reflect social relationships among users. In this work, we first investigate identifying the relationships among social network users based on certain social network property and limited pre-known information. Social networks have been widely used for online marketing. A critical step is the propagation maximization by choosing a small set of seeds for marketing. Based on the social relationships learned in the first step, we show how to exploit these relationships to maximize the marketing efficacy. We evaluate our approach on large scale real-world data from Renren network, showing that the performances of our relationship classification and propagation maximization algorithm are pretty good in practice.
