Change detection (CD) is essential for various real-world applications, such as urban management and disaster assessment. Numerous CD methods have been proposed, and considerable results have been achieved recently. However, detecting changes in hard regions, i.e., the change boundary and irrelevant pseudo changes caused by background clutters, remains difficult for these methods, since they pose equal attention for all regions in bi-temporal images. This paper proposes a novel change detection network, termed as HRANet, which provides accurate change maps via hard region mining. Specifically, an online hard region estimation branch is constructed to model the pixel-wise hard samples, supervised by the error between predicted change maps and corresponding ground truth during the training process. A cross-layer knowledge review module is introduced to distill temporal change information from low-level to high-level features, thereby enhancing the feature representation capabilities. Finally, the hard region aware features extracted from the online hard region estimation branch and multi-level temporal difference features are aggregated into an unified feature representation to improve the accuracy of CD. Vision-Language Consistency Guided Multi-modal Prompt Learning for Blind AI Generated Image Quality Assessment

Recently, textual prompt tuning has shown inspirational performance in adapting Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP) models to natural image quality assessment. However, such uni-modal prompt learning method only tunes the language branch of CLIP models. This is not enough for adapting CLIP models to AI generated image quality assessment (AGIQA) since AGIs visually differ from natural images. In addition, the consistency between AGIs and user input text prompts, which correlates with the perceptual quality of AGIs, is not investigated to guide AGIQA. In this letter, we propose vision-language consistency guided multi-modal prompt learning for blind AGIQA, dubbed CLIP-AGIQA. Specifically, we introduce learnable textual and visual prompts in language and vision branches of CLIP models, respectively. Moreover, we design a text-to-image alignment quality prediction task, whose learned vision-language consistency knowledge is used to guide the optimization of the above multi-modal prompts. Experimental results on two public AGIQA datasets demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art quality assessment models. Wireless communication network plays an important role in various industries. One of the key concern in wireless communication is network security. This paper proposes an optimal transmission lines assignment with maximal reliabilities in the wireless communication. Firstly, a reliability evaluation metric with a transmission line assignment is proposed for calculating the reliability service under some constraints. Secondly, based on the reliability, non-dominated sorting Genetic algorithm is used for working out the optimal solution via considering the network security. Some simulated experiments are conducted that the proposed approach is able to obtain the reasonable solution under the time constraints.

How Universal Polynomial Bases Enhance Spectral Graph Neural Networks: Heterophily, Over-smoothing, and Over-squashing

Spectral Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), alternatively known as graph filters, have gained increasing prevalence for heterophily graphs. Optimal graph filters rely on Laplacian eigendecomposition for Fourier transform. In an attempt to avert prohibitive computations, numerous polynomial filters have been proposed. However, polynomials in the majority of these filters are predefined and remain fixed across different graphs, failing to accommodate the varying degrees of heterophily. Addressing this gap, we demystify the intrinsic correlation between the spectral property of desired polynomial bases and the heterophily degrees via thorough theoretical analyses. Subsequently, we develop a novel adaptive heterophily basis wherein the basis vectors mutually form angles reflecting the heterophily degree of the graph. We integrate this heterophily basis with the homophily basis to construct a universal polynomial basis UniBasis, which devises a polynomial filter-based graph neural network – UniFilter. It optimizes the convolution and propagation in GNN, thus effectively limiting over-smoothing and alleviating over-squashing. Our extensive experiments, conducted on datasets with a diverse range of heterophily, support the superiority of UniBasis in the universality but also its proficiency in graph explanation. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Automatic Construction of Parallel Algorithm Portfolios for Multi-objective Optimization

It has been widely observed that there exists no universal best Multi-objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA) dominating all other MOEAs on all possible Multi-objective Optimization Problems (MOPs). In this work, we advocate using the Parallel Algorithm Portfolio (PAP), which runs multiple MOEAs independently in parallel and gets the best out of them, to combine the advantages of different MOEAs. Since the manual construction of PAPs is non-trivial and tedious, we propose to automatically construct high-performance PAPs for solving MOPs. Specifically, we first propose a variant of PAPs, namely MOEAs/PAP, which can better determine the output solution set for MOPs than conventional PAPs. Then, we present an automatic construction approach for MOEAs/PAP with a novel performance metric for evaluating the performance of MOEAs across multiple MOPs. Finally, we use the proposed approach to construct a MOEAs/PAP based on a training set of MOPs and an algorithm configuration space defined by several variants of NSGA-II. Experimental results show that the automatically constructed MOEAs/PAP can even rival the state-of-the-art ensemble MOEAs designed by human experts, demonstrating the huge potential of automatic construction of PAPs in multi-objective optimization. Abstracts IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a multi-organ immune disorder characterized by systemic involvement, diverse pathogenesis, and rarity, which complicates its diagnosis. Traditional medical diagnostic models, predominantly based on supervised learning in machine learning or deep learning frameworks, struggle to address the scarcity of labeled data due to the diagnostic challenges of IgG4-RD. To overcome this limitation, this study proposes a novel framework based on Feature-Consistent Cyclic Domain Adversarial Networks (FCCDAN). The framework first trains a classification model on the source domain for diagnosing source domain diseases under supervised conditions. Subsequently, leveraging the source domain model, the encoder is guided to extract semantic features, while feature consistency loss is integrated into both the generator and discriminator to align the semantic features of the target domain with those of the source domain. Finally, the aligned features are processed through a pre-trained linear mapping to achieve unsupervised classification and diagnosis in the target domain. The proposed model utilizes common autoimmune diseases as a knowledge source, enabling unsupervised transfer diagnosis for IgG4-RD, and demonstrates generalizability through experiments on other disease datasets, achieving an average diagnostic accuracy of 90.62%. This represents improvements of 4.14%, 9.82%, and 10.51% over baseline models, respectively. FCCDAN expands the applicability of Raman spectroscopy in disease diagnosis, maintaining high performance even in label-scarce environments. The overall research workflow also establishes a robust paradigm for the application and advancement of domain adaptation techniques in this context. © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a pivotal role in modern medical diagnosis yet is often hindered by the long imaging time. MRI imaging can be accelerated through undersampling, but the introduced aliasing artifacts should be removed during image reconstruction. While deep learning reconstruction methods excel at image de-aliasing, they may yield suboptimal results when training sampling settings differ from those at the time of reconstruction. To decouple from specific sampling settings, we propose using synthetic data to generate a substantial training dataset and pre-train a 1D deep denoiser. We then integrate the trained deep denoiser into the iterative reconstruction process as a replacement for the approximation operator within the deep plug-and-play framework. In vivo results indicate that the proposed method exhibits robust and visually appealing image reconstruction when there is a mismatch between the training and reconstruction undersampling settings, such as different undersampling patterns and sampling rates.

Cardio-cerebrovascular diseases are the leading causes of mortality worldwide, whose accurate blood vessel segmentation is significant for both scientific research and clinical usage. However, segmenting cardio-cerebrovascular structures from medical images is very challenging due to the presence of thin or blurred vascular shapes, imbalanced distribution of vessel and non-vessel pixels, and interference from imaging artifacts. These difficulties make manual or semi-manual segmentation methods highly time-consuming, labor-intensive, and prone to errors with inter-observer variability, where different experts may produce different segmentations from a variety of modalities. Consequently, there is a growing interest in developing automated algorithms. This paper provides an up-to-date survey of deep learning techniques, for cardio-cerebrovascular segmentation. It analyzes the research landscape, surveys recent approaches, and discusses challenges such as the scarcity of accurately annotated data and variability. This paper also illustrates the urgent needs for developing multi-modality label-efficient deep learning techniques. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first comprehensive survey of deep learning approaches that effectively segment vessels in both the heart and brain. It aims to advance automated segmentation techniques for cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, benefiting researchers and healthcare professionals. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we propose a Dual-path Supplemental Information Learning Architecture (DSILA) for predicting breast cancer Ki-67 status based on T2-weighted (T2w) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). DSILA consists of two components: 1) a transfer network with multi-scale feature selection strategy to obtain generic multi-scale features most relative to target, 2) a supplemental learning network with a large receptive field and channel-level attention to mine scenario-related semantic information. A regulation item – Aspect Overlap Loss (AOL), is further added to force the supplemental learning network to pay more attention to the regions overlooked by the transfer network. The experimental results tested on the collected T2w MRI breast cancer Ki-67 dataset show that DSILA outperforms state-of-the-art techniques among all adopted evaluation metrics, even achieving 0.85 in Area under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (AUC).
