Multi-parameter Bayesian inferences based on Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) samples have been widely used to estimate red noise in solar period-periodic signals. To MCMC, proper priors and sufficient iterations are prerequisites ensuring the accuracy of red noise estimation. We used MCMC-based Bayesian inferences to estimate 100 groups of red noise synthesized randomly for evaluating its accuracy. At the same time, the Brooks-Gelman algorithm was employed to precisely diagnose the convergence of the Markov chains generated by MCMC. The root-mean-square error of parameter inferences to the synthetic data is only 1.14. Furthermore, we applied the algorithm to analyze the oscillation modes in a sunspot and a flare. A 70 s period is detected in the sunspot umbra in addition to 3- and 5-minute periods, and a 40 s period is detected in the flare. The results prove that estimating red noise with MCMC-based Bayesian has more high accuracy in the case of proper priors and convergence. We also find that the number of iterations increases dramatically to achieve convergence as the number of parameters grows. Therefore, we strongly recommend that when estimating red noise with MCMC-based Bayesian, different initial values must be selected to ensure that the entire posterior distribution is covered. Speaker extraction requires a sample speech from the target speaker as the reference. However, enrolling a speaker with a long speech is not practical. We propose a speaker extraction technique, that performs in multiple stages to take full advantage of short reference speech sample. The extracted speech in early stages is used as the reference speech for late stages. For the first time, we use frame-level sequential speech embedding as the reference for target speaker. This is a departure from the traditional utterance-based speaker embedding reference. In addition, a signal fusion scheme is proposed to combine the decoded signals in multiple scales with automatically learned weights. Experiments on WSJ0-2mix and its noisy versions (WHAM! and WHAMR!) show that SpEx++ consistently outperforms other state-of-the-art baselines.

Study on Information Diffusion Analysis in Social Networks and Its applications

Due to the prevalence of social network services, more and more attentions are paid to explore how information diffuses and users affect each other in these networks, which has a wide range of applications, such as viral marketing, reposting prediction and social recommendation. Therefore, in this paper, we review the recent advances on information diffusion analysis in social networks and its applications. Specifically, we first shed light on several popular models to describe the information diffusion process in social networks, which enables three practical applications, i.e., influence evaluation, influence maximization and information source detection. Then, we discuss how to evaluate the authority and influence based on network structures. After that, current solutions to influence maximiza- tion and information source detection are discussed in detail, respectively. Finally, some possible research directions of information diffu- sion analysis are listed for further study.

A core source of raw information used as inputs to the reputation systems of online services is the feedback ratings provided by users. However, it is impossible that all users rate services with the same criteria and so ratings of different users are incommensurable. Meanwhile, users are not necessarily willing to provide honest feedbacks. Thus, aggregating dishonest cardinal ratings into reputation will potentially lead to unreliable and misleading reputation. In this paper, we propose a reputation model that aggregates ordinal user preferences rather than cardinal ratings for online services with user incentive. A distance metric is defined to measure the discrepancy between ordinal preferences. Then an optimal reputation model with the attributes of incentive compatible and individually rational is proposed. We design a B&B algorithm to solve the optimization problem so that a reputation vector that maximizes the total value of all users can be found efficiently. A comprehensive experimental study and performance analysis are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.

As user-generated reviews from Location Based Social Networks (LBSNs) are becoming increasingly pervasive, exploiting sentiment analysis based on user’s textual reviews for location recommendation has become a popular approach due to its explainable property and high prediction accuracy. However, the inherent limitations of existing methods make it difficult to discover what aspects that a user cared most about when visiting a location. In this study, we propose a fine-gained location recommendation model by jointly exploiting user’s textual reviews and ratings from LBSNs, which considers not only the direct rating that a user would score on a location but also the compatibility between user’s interested features and location’s high-quality features. Specifically, the proposed recommendation model consists of three steps: (1) extracting feature-sentiment pairs from user’s textual reviews;(2) learning to rank features using an Elo-based scheme;(3) making fine-gained location recommendation. Experiment results demonstrate that our proposed model can improve the recommendation performance compared with several state-of-the-art methods. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Raman spectroscopy provides spectral information related to the specific molecular structures of substances and has been well established as a powerful tool for studying biological tissues and diagnosing diseases. This article reviews recent advances in Raman spectroscopy and its applications in diagnosing various critical diseases, including cancers, infections, and neurodegenerative diseases, and in predicting surgical outcomes. These advances are explored through discussion of state-of-the-art forms of Raman spectroscopy, such as surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, resonance Raman spectroscopy, and tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy employed in biomedical sciences. We discuss biomedical applications, including various aspects and methods of ex vivo and in vivo medical diagnosis, sample collection, data processing, and achievements in realizing the correlation between Raman spectra and biochemical information in certain diseases. Finally, we present the limitations of the current study and provide perspectives for future research. © 2023, CC BY.

More than Encoder: Introducing Transformer Decoder to Upsample

Medical image segmentation methods downsample images for feature extraction and then upsample them to restore resolution for pixel-level predictions. In such schema, upsample technique is vital in restoring information for better performance. However, existing upsample techniques leverage little information from downsampling paths. The local and detailed feature from the shallower layer such as boundary and tissue texture is particularly more important in medical segmentation compared with natural image segmentation. To this end, we propose a novel upsample approach for medical image segmentation, Window Attention Upsample (WAU), which upsamples features conditioned on local and detailed features from downsampling path in local windows by introducing attention decoders of Transformer. WAU could serve as a general upsample method and be incorporated into any segmentation model that possesses lateral connections. We first propose the Attention Upsample which consists of Attention Decoder (AD) and bilinear upsample. AD leverages pixel-level attention to model long-range dependency and global information for a better upsample. Bilinear upsample is introduced as the residual connection to complement the upsampled features. Moreover, considering the extensive memory and computation cost of pixel-level attention, we further design a window attention scheme to restrict attention computation in local windows instead of the global range. We evaluate our method (WAU) on classic U-Net structure with lateral connections and achieve state-of-the-art performance on Synapse multi-organ segmentation, Medical Segmentation Decathlon (MSD) Brain, and Automatic Cardiac Diagnosis Challenge (ACDC) datasets. The smart water meter in water supply network can directly affect water production and usage when faults occur. The traditional method of fault detection is inefficient with time lagging, which is not helpful for modernization of water supply system. The capability of automatic fault diagnosis of smart water meter is an important means to improve the service quality of water supply. In this paper, an automatic fault diagnosis method for the smart device is proposed based on BP neural network. And it was applied on Google Tensorflow platform. Fault symptom vectors were constructed using water meter status data and were used to train the neural network model. In order to improve the learning convergence speed and fault classification effect of the network, a method of weighted symptom was also employed. Experimental results show that it has good performance with a general fault diagnosis accuracy of 98.82%.

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy serves as an important tool to analyze chemicals and proteins in bioengineering. Multi-dimensional NMR offers a major improvement in resolution with multi-dimensional spectrum, but significantly increases data acquisition time and produces hypercomplex data that is difficult to be handled. To reduce this time, non-uniformly sampling can be applied to obtain undersampled data and using a reconstruction approach, such as the state-of-the-art low-rank method, to remove the spectral artifacts introduced by undersampling. However, only complex format of signal, including the real and imaginary parts, is considered in previous low-rank approach, which is less efficient when dealing with hypercomplex data that has multiple components. To deal with this problem, a hypercomplex low-rank model is proposed by introducing an adjoint matrix operation and then solved with a fast matrix factorization algorithm. This method efficiently uses redundant information among all the components of hypercomplex signal. Using simulated data and real protein data, we demonstrate that the proposed method provides a fast and high-fidelity reconstruction of hypercomplex NMR spectroscopy. Furthermore, an open-access and easy-to-use cloud-computing platform is developed for this method. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.
