Gaze movement plays an important role in human visual search system. How to simulate such a system to efficiently encode and decode gaze movement for target searching is a meaningful issue. There are two key points that should be addressed for this issue. First, eye movement is affected by the visual context that includes more than one object in images. It is important to study how to encode the spatial relationship between the target and the other objects, and decode the spatial relationship to drive the gaze moving to the target. Second, the human retina has a non-uniform distribution of light sensing neurons, which can be viewed as a composition of neuron arrays in different spatial resolutions. When a system searches a target, how many scales of visual fields should be involved to sense the image stimulus? In this paper, we propose a visual search system using the population cell coding mechanism and the multi-scale visual field as sensing input. As an example, the system is applied to human eye center searching. An experimental comparison of a Full-scale visual field coding system and a Gradual-scale coding system is carried out. The experiment results show the Gradual-scale coding system performs better than Full-scale coding system for target searching. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper tries to fill the gap between Traditional Chinese Pulse Diagnosis (TCPD) and Doppler diagnosis by applying digital signal analysis and pattern classification techniques to wrist radial arterial Doppler blood flow signals. Doppler blood flows signals (DBFS) of patients with cholecystitis, gastritis and healthy people are classified by L2-soft margin SVM and 5 linear classifiers using the proposed feature - piecewise axially integrated bispectra (PAIB). A 5-fold cross validation is used for performance evaluation. The classification accuracies between either two groups of subjects are greater than 93%. Gastritis can be recognized with higher accuracy than cholecystitis. Cholecystitis can be recognized with higher accuracy on left hand data than right. The findings in this paper partly conform to the theory of TCPD. Though the sample size is relatively small, we could still argue that the methods proposed here are effective and could serve as an assistive tool for TCPD.

Sorting is a kernel algorithm for a wide range of applications. In this paper, we present a new algorithm, GPU-Warpsort, to perform comparison-based parallel sort on Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). It mainly consists of a bitonic sort followed by a merge sort. Our algorithm achieves high performance by efficiently mapping the sorting tasks to GPU architectures. Firstly, we take advantage of the synchronous execution of threads in a warp to eliminate the barriers in bitonic sorting network. We also provide sufficient homogeneous parallel operations for all the threads within a warp to avoid branch divergence. Furthermore, we implement the merge sort efficiently by assigning each warp independent pairs of sequences to be merged and by exploiting totally coalesced global memory accesses to eliminate the bandwidth bottleneck. Our experimental results indicate that GPU-Warpsort works well on different kinds of input distributions, and it achieves up to 30% higher performance than previous optimized comparison-based GPU sorting algorithm on input sequences with millions of elements.

Today, almost all the C2C e-commerce community member reputation evaluating algorithms are time sensitive. The reputation of a community member is accumulated after transactions and the increment of reputation after a successful transaction is computed based on the score given by his or her transaction partner. Since people always tend to do business with those with high reputation value, the reputation of members joined in C2C community at different time will vary greatly although they may provide the same commodity quality and service. It is unfair to new comers. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to overcome the shortcoming. Based on the transaction social network, our algorithm employs the random walk strategy to compute member reputation and enhance system fairness. © 2010 IADIS.

To obtain the efficiency of DBMS, HadoopDB combines Hadoop and DBMS, and claims the superiority over Hadoop in terms of performance. However, the approach of HadoopDB is simply putting Map Reduce onto unmodified single-machined DBMSs which has several obvious weaknesses. In essence, HadoopDB is a parallel DBMS with fault tolerance, which incurs unnecessary overhead due to the DBMS legacy. Instead of augmenting DBMS with Hadoop techniques, we propose a new system architecture integrating modified DBMS engines as a read-only execution layer into Hadoop, where DBMS plays a role of providing efficient read-only operators rather than managing the data. Besides the obtained efficiency from DBMS engine, there are other advantages. The modified DBMS engine is able to directly process data from the HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) files at the block level, which means that the data replication can be handled by HDFS naturally, and the block-level parallelism is easily achieved. The global index access mechanism is added according to the Map Reduce paradigm. The data loading speed is also guaranteed by directly writing the data into HDFS with simplified logic. Experiments show that our system outperforms both original Hadoop and HadoopDB styled system.

Separation logic is an extension of Hoare logic for reasoning about mutable heap structure. To represent separation logic in the first-order logic, there are several choices to determine what are constants, what are predicates and quantifiers, and whether the commands are taken as atomic or composite. This paper shall give a translation of separation logic into a guarded fragment of the first-order logic, such that the translation is faithful, that is, the translation translates a consistent statement (boolean expression, assertion or specification) of separation logic into a consistent formula in the fragment of the first-order logic. By the decidability of the satisfiability problem of the guarded first-order logic, if the commands are taken as atomic in the first-order logic then the guarded first-order logic translated from separation logic is decidable;if the commands are taken as atomic/composite in the first-order logic then the first-order logic translated from separation logic is undecidable.

Granular computing (GrC), a knowledge-oriented computing which covers the theory of fuzzy information granularity, rough set theory, the theory of quotient space and interval computing etc, is a way of dealing with incomplete, unreliable, uncertain fuzzy knowledge. In recent years, it is becoming one of the main study streams in Artificial Intelligence (AI). With selecting the size structure flexibly, eliminating the incompatibility between clustering results and priori knowledge, completing the clustering task effectively, cluster analysis based on GrC attracts great interest from domestic and foreign scholars. In this paper, starting from the development of GrC, firstly, the main newly achievements about clustering and GrC are researched and summarized. Secondly, principle of granularity in clustering, the effective clustering algorithms with the idea of granularity as well as their merits and faults are analyzed and evaluated from the point view of rough set, fuzzy sets and quotient space theories. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of handling high-dimensional complex massive data with combination of these theories is outlooked.

In this paper, we present a Godson-T Verification Engine (GVE) to rapidly prototype and debug our Godson-T many-core processor design. GVE adopts the state-of-the-art hardware platform which contains 6 Xilinx Virtex-5 LX330 FPGAs, thus permitting us to map our many-core processor and peripheral devices into it. Besides the hardware, our toolkit Godson-T Studio provides the compiler, program loader, debugger and monitor to fulfil the purpose of developing, profiling and debugging, while the accuracy loss problem is settled by our novel techniques: Check-point and ILA-Check, presented in this paper. To our experience, GVE greatly reduces the verification cycle due to its high execution speed, for example, it finishes thousands of testcases in an hour, where the software-based approach takes few days to run. And by the help of the checkpoint framework, we can easily locate the faults. Because of these features, GVE makes a great contribution to the 16-tile Godson-T tape-out Project.

With the rapid development of virtualization technology, virtual machine (VM) is widely used by cloud computing - the more and more popular computing paradigm. Thus, in order to guarantee the security of cloud computing, it is necessary to securely identify the kernel of VM, the software stack running on VM and the hardware platform which VM relies on. This paper designs a system of trusted connection based on virtual machine architecture and implements a system prototype. Our system not only can securely measure and identify the kernel of VM, the software stack running on VM and the hardware platform which VM relies on, but also can realize isolations to untrusted VMs. There are three main parts in our system: trusted chain, attestation and isolation. The experiments described in this paper prove that our system ensures trusted connection of VMs and achieves isolations to untrusted VMs. The performance of our system is also analyzed and evaluated. According to the analysis results, our system is practical in terms of performance.
