Bilateral Pricing for Dynamic Association in Federated Edge Learning

Devices and servers in Federated Edge Learning (FEL) are self-interested and resource-constrained, making it critical to design incentives to improve model performance. However, dynamic network conditions raise energy consumption, while data heterogeneity undermines device cooperation. Current research overlooks the interplay between system efficiency and device clustering, resulting in suboptimal updates. To address these challenges, we develop BENCH, a bilateral pricing mechanism consisting of three core rules aimed at incentivizing participation from both devices and servers. Specifically, we first design a reward allocation rule, based on the Rubinstein bargaining model, which dynamically allocates rewards. Theoretically, we derive a closed-form solution for this rule, demonstrating BENCH achieves Nash equilibrium. Secondly, we design a device partitioning rule that leverages modularity to group similar devices, facilitating personalized edge aggregation to accelerate local data adaptation. Thirdly, we design an edge matching rule that employs the Kuhn-Munkres algorithm to balance the load at edge servers, thus minimizing the congestion. Together, these three rules enable hierarchical optimization of pricing and associations, effectively mitigating the impact of dynamic costs and device heterogeneity. Extensive experiments demonstrate BENCH's effectiveness in increasing device participation by 28.81% and improving model performance by 2.66% compared to state-of-the-art baselines. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

The conventional Cohen's distribution can't meet the requirement of additive noises jamming signals high-performance denoising under the condition of low signal-to-noise ratio, it is necessary to integrate the metaplectic transform for non-stationary signal fractional domain time-frequency analysis. In this paper, we embark on blending time-frequency operators and coordinate operator fractionizations to formulate the definition of the joint fractionizations metaplectic Wigner distribution (JFMWD), based on which we integrate the generalized metaplectic convolution to address the unified representation issue of the convolution type of metaplectic Cohen's distribution (CMCD), whose special cases and essential properties are also derived. We blend Wiener filter principle and fractional domain filter mechanism of the metaplectic transform to design the least-squares adaptive filter method in the JFMWD domain, giving birth to the least-squares adaptive filter-based CMCD whose kernel function can be adjusted with the input signal automatically to achieve the minimum mean-square error (MSE) denoising in Wigner distribution domain. We discuss the optimal symplectic matrices selection strategy of the proposed adaptive CMCD through the minimum MSE minimization modeling and solving. Some examples are also carried out to demonstrate that the proposed filtering method outperforms some state-of-the-arts including the classical Gaussian filter, the Cohen's distribution filtering methods with fixed kernel functions, the classical Wiener filter, the adaptive generalized linear canonical convolution-based filtering method, the adaptive Cohen's distribution filtering method, the adaptive JFMWD-based Cohen's distribution filtering method, and the adaptive generalized metaplectic convolution-based Cohen's distribution filtering method in noise suppression. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Accurate 3D Wireless Charging

Wireless Rechargeable Sensor Networks (WRSNs) have become an important research issue as they can overcome the energy bottleneck problem of wireless sensor networks. However, existing 2D charging methods suffer from significant errors in 3D scenarios, which leads to a huge gap between theoretical results and practical applications, hindering the widespread adoption of WRSNs. In this paper, we address the chargIng utility maximizatioN problem In 3D environmenT (INIT) and provide a general solution suitable for any type of transceiver antenna. Specifically, we first establish an accurate 3D charging model to quantify the received power of sensors in 3D environments. Secondly, we design an angle-distance discretization scheme to determine appropriate charging spots for the Mobile Charger (MC). Then, we transform the mobile charging problem into a submodular function maximization problem and propose an approximation algorithm with guaranteed performance to solve it. Finally, our method has been extensively evaluated through experiments and simulations and has demonstrated considerable advantages over other comparison algorithms in real-world 3D environments. On average, it has achieved an impressive 34.8% improvement in charging utility and a remarkable 56.1% reduction in the number of dead sensors. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Mobile edge computing (MEC) considerably enhances the capabilities and performance of connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs) by deploying edge servers (ESs) on roadside units (RSUs) near CAVs, thereby ensuring low-latency services. Given the constrained and costly nature of ES resources (computing, storage, and bandwidth), equitable ES utilization is critical for CAV operations. However, fairness considerations are often overlooked in current budgeted edge server placement (ESP) strategies, potentially worsening resource imbalances and compromising user experience. This paper investigates the fairness-aware budgeted edge server placement (FESP) problem within RSUs, proving its NP-hardness. To address FESP, we first propose FESP-O, an integer programming-based optimal approach for small-scale problems, followed by FESP-APX, an approximation approach for large-scale scenarios that provides near-optimal solutions. We analyze the time complexity and approximation ratio of our proposed algorithms and validate their efficacy through experiments on real-world datasets. Extensive experimental results demonstrate significant performance improvements over baseline and state-of-the-art methods, indicating practical suitability and efficiency. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Cross-view object geo-localization (CVOGL) aims to locate an object of interest in a captured ground- or drone-view image within the satellite image. However, existing works treat ground-view and drone-view query images equivalently, overlooking their inherent viewpoint discrepancies and the spatial correlation between the query image and the satellite-view reference image. To this end, this paper proposes a novel View-specific Attention Geo-localization method (VAGeo) for accurate CVOGL. Specifically, VAGeo contains two key modules: view-specific positional encoding (VSPE) module and channel-spatial hybrid attention (CSHA) module. In object-level, according to the characteristics of different viewpoints of ground and drone query images, viewpoint-specific positional codings are designed to more accurately identify the click-point object of the query image in the VSPE module. In feature-level, a hybrid attention in the CSHA module is introduced by combining channel attention and spatial attention mechanisms simultaneously for learning discriminative features. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed VAGeo gains a significant performance improvement, i.e., improving acc@0.25/acc@0.5 on the CVOGL dataset from 45.43%/42.24% to 48.21%/45.22% for ground-view, and from 61.97%/57.66% to 66.19%/61.87% for drone-view. © 2025 IEEE.

Recently, remarkable progress has been achieved in single image super-resolution using methods based on CNN and Transformer architectures. However, existing approaches often construct a substantial number of network layers, leading to a significant increase in performance requirement and memory consumption, thereby limiting the practical deployment and usability of the models. To address this issue, we propose an Alternating CNN Transformer Block and an Integrative CNN Efficient Transformer for single image super-resolution. We enhance feature extraction efficiency by combining CNN within and between Transformer modules. In addition, we propose two novel structures: Multi-branch Gated CNN and Parallel Channel Attention, aiming to efficiently extract local spatial information and global channel information from images. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our model achieves high performance while maintaining low model complexity. The proposed model attains PSNR values of 32.32 and 30.78 for the Set5 and Manga109 benchmark datasets, respectively, at a scale factor of ×4. Compared to other lightweight super-resolution models, our proposed model outperforms them at lower computational costs. A growing body of research indicates that employing large models for adaptation to downstream tasks often yields remarkable performance. However, in the domain of ship detection, the potential of these large models is frequently underutilized due to domain shift issues. This paper introduces the Cross-Modal Ship Grounding (CSG) model, which leverages an efficient Cross-Modal Adapter (CMA) technology to transfer the general detection capabilities of large models to ship images, addressing domain shift with minimal training costs. To mitigate the challenges posed by complex and variable background interference, the Water-Land Separation (WLS) module is proposed to focus specifically on the water area. This module effectively addresses the issue of background target interference, thereby enhancing the model’s accuracy in complex scenes. Empirical evaluations on both private and public datasets demonstrate that the CSG model surpasses all state-of-the-art models in performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Underwater image enhancement (UIE) focuses on mitigating image quality degradation due to light absorption and scattering. However, most existing methods enhance images via a global and uniform manner, neglecting the inherent semantic information in different regions, which may cause the network to easily deviate from the region's original color. Moreover, these methods typically rely on clear images to guide network convergence, a process constrained by the limited availability of real-world datasets, making it extremely challenging to train enhancement models for various degradations. To address these challenges, this paper introduces a semantic guidance and region contrastive constraints network (SRCNet). Initially, we propose a semantic-aware RWKV (Receptance Weighted key Value) block and a semantic prompt regularization module. These components leverage intra-target semantic correlations to preserve image details and colors within a global perceptual framework, while employing focal loss to emphasize the restoration of severely degraded regions. Subsequently, we introduce a region contrastive learning method that effectively utilizes negative samples to precisely capture features sensitive to degradation factors, thereby fostering robust feature distributions. Finally, experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art (SOTA) approaches. © 2025 IEEE.

Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption (CP-ABE) enables fine-grained access control on ciphertexts, making it a promising approach for managing data stored in the cloud-enabled Internet of Things. But existing schemes often suffer from privacy breaches due to explicit attachment of access policies or partial hiding of critical attribute content. Additionally, resource-constrained IoT devices, especially those adopting wireless communication, frequently encounter affordability issues regarding decryption costs. In this paper, we propose an efficient and fine-grained access control scheme with fully hidden policies (named FHAC). FHAC conceals all attributes in the policy and utilizes bloom filters to efficiently locate them. A test phase before decryption is applied to assist authorized users in finding matches between their attributes and the access policy. Dictionary attacks are thwarted by providing unauthorized users with invalid values. The heavy computational overhead of both the test phase and most of the decryption phase is outsourced to two cloud servers. Additionally, users can verify the correctness of multiple outsourced decryption results simultaneously. Security analysis and performance comparisons demonstrate FHAC's effectiveness in protecting policy privacy and achieving efficient decryption. © 2024 Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications

Recent advancements in large language models have led to significant improvements in various natural language processing tasks, including automated question answering. However, these models still struggle with providing accurate responses to complex biology questions, such as those found in the National College Entrance Examination. To address this issue, researchers have explored retrieval-augmented generation techniques, which incorporate external knowledge sources to enhance answer accuracy. While these methods have shown promise in improving efficiency, they often lack the ability to perform in-depth analysis of complex questions. In response to these limitations, the paper proposes a novel ReAct agent-based question answering method. This method combines biology textbook document libraries with Google search engine capabilities, leveraging the strengths of large language models. By integrating these components, this method can engage in autonomous decision-making and multi-step reasoning, allowing for a more thorough analysis of complex biology questions. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this new approach. When compared to responses generated directly by ChatGPT and GPT-4o models, the method showed significant improvements in accuracy for biology questions from the National College Entrance Examination. Specifically, the new method achieved accuracy increases of 11.1% and 4.64% over ChatGPT and GPT-4o, respectively. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
