Probabilistic Reliability via Subsystem Structures of Arrangement Graph networks

With the rapid growth of the number of processors in a multiprocessor system, faulty processors occur in it with a probability that rises quickly. The probability of a subsystem with an appropriate size being fault-free in a definite time interval is a significant and practical measure of the reliability for a multiprocessor system, which characterizes the functionality of a multiprocessor system well. Motivated by the study of subgraph reliability, as well as the attractive structure and fault tolerance properties of (n, k)-arrangement graph A n, k, we focus on the subgraph reliability for A n, k under the probabilistic fault model in this article. First, we investigate intersections of no more than four subgraphs in A n, k, and classify all the intersecting modes. Second, we focus on the probability P(q, A n, k n-1, k-1) with which at least one (n-1, k-1)-subarrangement graph is fault-free in A n, k, when given a uniform probability q with which a single vertex is fault-free, and we establish the P(q, A n, kn-1, k-1) by adopting the principle of inclusion-exclusion under the probabilistic fault model. Finally, we study the probabilistic fault model involving a nonuniform probability with which a single vertex is fault-free, and we prove that the P(q, A n, kn-1, k-1) under both models is very close to the asymptotic value by both theoretical arguments and experimental results. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

SEED: Accelerating Reasoning Tree Construction via Scheduled Speculative Decoding

Large Language Models (LLMs) demonstrate remarkable emergent abilities across various tasks, yet fall short of complex reasoning and planning tasks. The tree-search-based reasoning methods address this by encouraging the exploration of intermediate steps, surpassing the capabilities of chain-of-thought prompting. However, significant inference latency is introduced due to the systematic exploration and evaluation of multiple thought paths. This paper introduces SEED, a novel and efficient inference framework to improve both runtime speed and GPU memory management concurrently. Based on a scheduled speculative execution, SEED efficiently handles multiple iterations for thought generation and state evaluation, leveraging a rounds-scheduled strategy to manage draft model dispatching. Extensive experimental evaluations on three reasoning datasets demonstrate the superior speedup performance of SEED1 Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Amid the rise of mobile technologies and Location-Based Social networks (LBSNs), there’s an escalating demand for personalized Point-of-Interest (POI) recommendations. Especially pivotal in smart cities, these systems aim to enhance user experiences by offering location recommendations tailored to past check-ins and visited POIs. Distinguishing itself from traditional POI recommendations, the next POI approach emphasizes predicting the immediate subsequent location, factoring in both geographical attributes and temporal patterns. This approach, while promising, faces with challenges like capturing evolving user preferences and navigating data biases. The introduction of Graph Neural networks (GNNs) brings forth a transformative solution, particularly in their ability to capture high-order dependencies between POIs, understanding deeper relationships and patterns beyond immediate connections. This survey presents a comprehensive exploration of GNN-based next POI recommendation approaches, delving into their unique characteristics, inherent challenges, and potential avenues for future research. © The Author(s) 2024.

Causal Walk: Debiasing Multi-Hop Fact Verification with Front-Door Adjustment

Multi-hop fact verification aims to detect the veracity of the given claim by integrating and reasoning over multiple pieces of evidence. Conventional multi-hop fact verification models are prone to rely on spurious correlations from the annotation artifacts, leading to an obvious performance decline on unbiased datasets. Among the various debiasing works, the causal inference-based methods become popular by performing theoretically guaranteed debiasing such as casual intervention or counterfactual reasoning. However, existing causal inference-based debiasing methods, which mainly formulate fact verification as a single-hop reasoning task to tackle shallow bias patterns, cannot deal with the complicated bias patterns hidden in multiple hops of evidence. To address the challenge, we propose Causal Walk, a novel method for debiasing multi-hop fact verification from a causal perspective with front-door adjustment. Specifically, in the structural causal model, the reasoning path between the treatment (the input claim-evidence graph) and the outcome (the veracity label) is introduced as the mediator to block the confounder. With the front-door adjustment, the causal effect between the treatment and the outcome is decomposed into the causal effect between the treatment and the mediator, which is estimated by applying the idea of random walk, and the causal effect between the mediator and the outcome, which is estimated with normalized weighted geometric mean approximation. To investigate the effectiveness of the proposed method, an adversarial multi-hop fact verification dataset and a symmetric multi-hop fact verification dataset are proposed with the help of the large language model. Experimental results show that Causal Walk outperforms some previous debiasing methods on both existing datasets and the newly constructed datasets. Steel is an indispensable raw material in the industrial field, steel surface defects seriously affect the quality of steel, in recent years a lot of research has been carried out on the detection of steel surface defects. Existing steel defect detection methods are unable to fully mine the underlying feature information of the target image and do not achieve a dynamic balance between accuracy and speed. To address the above problems, this paper proposes an optimised target detection algorithm based on YOLOv8. First, we proposed the DMCA module, which combines the ideas of deformable convolution and multi-channel self-attention mechanism. We developed a strengthen self-attention module to enhance the process of deformable convolutional generation of offsets, so that the model can better adapt to the complex shapes of different defective targets and extract features at a deeper level. Secondly, using the idea of LKA (Large Kernel Attention), we propose the LF-MSPP lightweight module with long-range dependence and adaptive capability to capture the tele-relationships with small computational cost and parameters, improved the problem of missing defective feature information. Finally, we replaced the head of the original YOLOv8 with a Dynamic Head and used the split attention mechanism to improve the head detection capabilities while ensuring lightweight. We conduct extensive experiments on the widely used Northeastern University steel defect dataset NEU-DET. Experimental results show that the improved model improves mAP@50, mAP@50-95, AP and AR indicators by 2.4%, 2.0%, 6.1%, and 3.4% respectively compared with the original YOLOv8 model, and the number of model parameters is reduced by 11.2%. The improved model is also better than mainstream defect target detection models such as SSD, Retinanet, FasterRCNN, YOLOv5, YOLOv6, YOLOv7, YOLOv8, etc, and can better meet the accuracy and speed requirements of actual industrial production for steel surface defect detection mode

Inaccurate Label Distribution Learning with Dependency Noise

In this paper, we introduce the Dependent Noise-based Inaccurate Label Distribution Learning (DN-ILDL) framework to tackle the challenges posed by noise in label distribution learning, which arise from dependencies on instances and labels. We start by modeling the inaccurate label distribution matrix as a combination of the true label distribution and a noise matrix influenced by specific instances and labels. To address this, we develop a linear mapping from instances to their true label distributions, incorporating label correlations, and decompose the noise matrix using feature and label representations, applying group sparsity constraints to accurately capture the noise. Furthermore, we employ graph regularization to align the topological structures of the input and output spaces, ensuring accurate reconstruction of the true label distribution matrix. Utilizing the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) for efficient optimization, we validate our method's capability to recover true labels accurately and establish a generalization error bound. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DN-ILDL effectively addresses the ILDL problem and outperforms existing LDL methods. © 2024, CC BY.

ADACQR: Enhancing Query Reformulation for Conversational Search via Sparse and Dense Retrieval Alignment

Conversational Query Reformulation (CQR) has significantly advanced in addressing the challenges of conversational search, particularly those stemming from the latent user intent and the need for historical context. Recent works aimed to boost the performance of CQR through alignment. However, they are designed for one specific retrieval system, which potentially results in sub-optimal generalization. To overcome this limitation, we present a novel framework ADACQR. By aligning reformulation models with both term-based and semantic-based retrieval systems, ADACQR enhances the generalizability of information-seeking queries among diverse retrieval environments through a two-stage training strategy. Moreover, two effective approaches are proposed to obtain superior labels and diverse input candidates, boosting the efficiency and robustness of the framework. Experimental results on the TopiOCQA, QReCC and TREC CAsT datasets demonstrate that ADACQR outperforms the existing methods in a more efficient framework, offering both quantitative and qualitative improvements in conversational query reformulation.1 Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Learning about the cognitive state of the brain has always been a popular topic. Based on the fact that fluctuations of brain signals and functional connectome (FC) relate to specific human behaviors, deep learning based methods have shown promising results on the prediction of such behaviors by analyzing biological signals. Existing methods either model from static perspectives or apply spatial-temporal graph convolution to extract dynamic properties. However, the static information and dynamic information can reflect global brain activities and local brain activities respectively. Thus, we propose BrainNetFormer to incorporate both static and dynamic properties for human behavior prediction. To be specific, a spatial cross attention module and a temporal cross attention module are introduced for information fusion. In addition, since a specific behavior of subjects can be decomposed into a series of subtasks, we introduce a sub-task regularization loss to assist in training and empower the model to recognize subtasks at each moment. Experiments on the HCP-Task dataset demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed model. © 2023 IEEE.
