Unsupervised Outlier Detection with Reinforced Noise Discriminator

Outlier detection is one of the hot topics in the field of machine learning and data mining. At present, there are many kinds of outlier detection algorithms. The accuracies of traditional outlier detection algorithms are often affected by unique parameters, and an increase in the amount of data and the dimensions of the data can seriously affect their efficiency and effectiveness. Methods based on generative adversarial networks (GANs) can solve the above problems, but they are unacceptable since the model often collapses during the training period. In this article, to solve the problems of curse of dimensionality and model collapse, we propose a novel reinforced noise discriminator (RND) method for unsupervised outlier detection in tabular data. We consider outlier detection as a binary classification problem. Thus, we apply a learnable reinforced discriminator and generate a large number of potential outliers with a uniform distribution and potential outliers that are close to the original data that are used as a negative sample to train the discriminator, which learns the distribution of the original data to detect outliers. We empirically compare the proposed approach with ten state-of-the-art outlier detection methods on both synthetic and real-world tabular datasets. The experimental results show that RND outperforms its competitors in the majority of cases. Covert communication is considered a promising technology for hiding transmission processes and activities from malicious eavesdropping. With the development of detection technology, the traditional point-to-point covert communication method cannot effectively guarantee the reliability of covert communication. In order to solve this problem, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) are widely adopted in covert communication as common relay equipment. However, the UAV maximizes its benefits by taking advantage of the information asymmetry between itself and the covert communication sender. Therefore, it is necessary to encourage UAV-assisted potential users (UPU) to transmit covert data honestly by designing an information asymmetry-based incentive mechanism. In this paper, we propose a UAV-assisted contract-theoretic (UACT) model to improve the covert communication performance, where UPU honestly transmits covert data and the throughput of UACT can be increased. Specifically, we first divide UPU into finite types and model the data transfer contract between the sender, UPU, and receiver. Then, the contract feasibility of UACT is derived with sufficient and necessary conditions. Finally, we analyze the contract optimization in the continuous case of UPUs. Numerical simulations show that the UACT can incentivize UPUs to transmit covert data through UAV assistance and make covert communication performance close to the information symmetry case. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

A relational database is an infrastructure that manages and shares structured data. To safeguard the copyrights of data within such databases, database watermarking is an effective technique. Most watermarking schemes rely on the primary key (PK) to locate and embed watermarks, which preserves high watermark synchronization during detection. However, these schemes become invalid once PK is erased or changed. To avoid this vulnerability, virtual primary key (VPK) schemes are proposed to replace PK. Nevertheless, duplicate values in virtual primary keys compromise synchronization. Besides, current VPK schemes fail to utilize the primary key, even when it remains unchanged. This strategy decreases detection accuracy in many cases. In addition, we find an attribute name attack. It is a common challenge of existing watermarking schemes, which distort the link between detected attributes and watermarked attributes. In this paper, we propose a high-synchronization and robust VPK scheme. It introduces a classifier to maintain the original order and number of attributes to resist attribute name attacks. To resist primary key erasure or change and mitigate synchronization problems, it generates distinct virtual primary keys. Moreover, to improve detection accuracy, our watermarking scheme integrates the primary key when it remains unchanged. Experiments demonstrate that our scheme achieves high watermark synchronization. It is robust against various attacks, even when 98% of tuples or over half of the attributes are distorted. In this study, we introduce a novel Hybrid Federated Learning (HybridFL) approach aimed at enhancing privacy and accuracy in collaborative machine learning scenarios. Our methodology integrates Differential Privacy (DP) and secret sharing techniques to address inference risks during training and protect against information leakage in the output model. Drawing inspiration from recent advances, we present a HybridFL framework that combines the strengths of Homomorphic Encryption (HE) and Multi-Party Computation (MPC) to achieve secure computation without the computational overhead of pure HE methods. Our contributions include a privacy-preserving design for Federated Learning (FL) that ensures local data privacy through secret sharing while leveraging DP mechanisms for noise addition. The system offers resilience against unreliable participants and is evaluated using various machine learning models, including Convolutional Neural networks (CNN), Multi-Layer Perceptrons (MLP), and linear regression. Furthermore, we address potential external threats by deploying predictive model outputs as robust services against inference attacks. Experimental results demonstrate improved accuracy and convergence speed, establishing the viability of HybridFL as an effective solution for collaborative machine learning with enhanced privacy guarantees. © ICST Institute for computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2025.

Identifying disease-associated metabolites could provide critical clues for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Although computational approaches have been proposed to predict disease-associated metabolites by training models using positive and negative samples, few efforts have paid attention to optimize the reliability of negative samples, which could possibly improve the prediction accuracy of model. In this work, we propose a novel method called SMDPG to leverage optimized negative sampling and sparse graph convolutional network to predict metabolite-disease associations. In SMDPG, we first build a metabolite-disease bipartite graph based on less similar metabolites and diseases and propose a negative sampling method to select reliable negative metabolite-disease samples from the bipartite graph to reduce the effect of noisy samples. Then a homogeneous metabolite-disease pair graph is constructed based on the selected negative samples and known metabolite-disease associations. Further, an edge sparseness operation is designed to simplify the connection of the homogeneous graph. Finally, the simplified homogeneous graph is fed into the graph convolutional network to predict metabolite-disease associations. Experimental results show that SMDPG can more accurately predicts metabolite-disease associations as compared to the existing methods. Moreover, the study case demonstrates that SMDPG is an effective framework for identifying potential metabolite-disease associations.

Attributable to the complex distribution of tactile vesicles under the skin and the ability of the brain to process specific tactile parameters(shape, hardness, and surface texture), human skin can have the capacity for tactile spatial reconstruction and visualization of complex object geometry and surface texture. However, current haptic sensor technologies are predominantly point sensors, which do not have an interlaced distribution structure similar to that of haptic vesicles, limiting their potential in human-computer interaction applications. Here, we report an optical microfiber array skin(OMAS)imitating tactile vesicle interlaced structures for tactile visualization and object reconstruction sensing. This device is characterized by high sensitivity(-0.83 N/V) and fast response time(38 ms). We demonstrate that combining the signals collected by the OMAS with appropriate artificial intelligence algorithms enables the recognition of objects with different hardnesses and shapes with 100% accuracy. It also allows for the classification of fabrics with different surface textures with 98.5% accuracy and Braille patterns with 99% accuracy. As a proof-of-concept, we integrated OMAS into a robot arm to select mahjong among six common objects and successfully recognize its suits by touch, which provides a new solution for tactile sensory processing for human-computer interaction.

Recent end-to-end image compressive sensing networks primarily use Convolutional Neural networks (CNNs) and Transformers, each with distinct limitations: CNNs struggle with global feature capture, while Transformers lack local feature extraction. We propose a novel network, DCCT-Net, which combines Dynamic CNN (DCNN) and Transformer. This integration leverages DCNN’s local feature strengths and the Transformer’s global representation capabilities, resulting in superior image reconstruction quality. To further enhance the network’s performance, we propose a Feature Dynamic Augment Module (FDAM), which dynamically extracts features based on the saliency of segmented image regions, thereby amplifying the CNN’s local feature expression. Additionally, we design a Weighted Fusion Module (WFM), which optimizes the combination of local and global features extracted by the DCNN and Transformer, respectively. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed DCCT-Net significantly outperforms most existing state-of-the-art methods in the field.

An Enhancing Stability Control Strategy of VSG-Based Power Source Under PWM Rectifier Load

Under PWM rectifier load, the power source based on virtual synchronous generator (VSG) is prone to cause mid-frequency oscillation. Firstly, the system oscillation mechanism and characteristic of the VSG-based power source are analyzed based on impedance method. Due to the negative resistance and capacitive characteristic in the middle frequency range, the PWM rectifier load is prone to interact with the VSG-based power source, which can lead to impedance resonance. Secondly, to improve the stability of the VSG-based power source under the PWM rectifier load, a voltage differentiation feedforward control is proposed. In addition, since the mid-frequency impedance magnitude decrease obviously, the improved VSG-based power source is closer to the ideal voltage source, which can automatically suppress the middle harmonics induced by uncontrollable rectifier load. Finally, the proposed control and the corresponding theoretical analysis are verified by simulations and experiments. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Next point-of-interest (POI) recommendation aims to predict the next interested POI to the user based on their historical check-in data in location-based social services. Most existing studies have attempted to model user visiting behaviors via sequence-based and graph-based models, and have achieved impressive performance. However, there is still room to explore the implicit transition preferences and contextual multiple semantic relationships among various POIs. To this end, we propose a novel graph-based Multi-Relational Variational Contrastive Learning (MRVCL) method for next POI recommendation, which captures local similarity associations and global contextual dependencies among POIs. Specifically, an order-free local-relational adaptive weighting module is designed to alleviate the problem of insufficient utilization of multi-hop neighbor information caused by the limit of neighbor order of nodes. We then develop a contextaware global-relational encoding module to capture implicit semantic sequential relationships. Finally, generative variational-contrastive learning is employed to construct a continuous representation of the latent features and reinforce the quality of representation learning. Extensive experiments on two real-world datasets validate that our MRVCL outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods on various evaluation metrics. A Harmonic Current Self-Compensation Control Strategy of DC Active Power Filter

Due to the diversity of nonlinear loads, the harmonic frequency of the DC microgrid is unpredictable, which poses a challenge to traditional DC active power filters (DC-APF). Firstly, the harmonic compensation mechanism and characteristics of the DC-APF with classical control strategy are analyzed. For the classical DC-APF, the voltage control and harmonic extraction are independent of each other, which may lead to their conflict and reduce the harmonic compensation performance. To address this issue, a harmonic current self-compensation control strategy of DC-APF is proposed, which uses a first-order inertia controller in the voltage loop and can simultaneously achieve voltage control and harmonic extraction. Then, the mechanism, characteristics, and parametric design method of the proposed harmonic current self-compensation control are introduced in detail. Compared with the classical DC-APF, the proposed DC-APF does not require any harmonic extraction filter and has better harmonic current compensation performance. Finally, the proposed control strategy and theoretical analysis are verified by simulation and experiment. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.
