In this paper, Harmony Search is applied to the blocking job shop problem with makespan minimization. According to the characteristics of the considered problem, a decoding method is introduced to generate feasible solutions. A rule is proposed to improvise new harmonies. Some approaches are developed to determine the harmony search considering rate, the pitch adjusting rate, the dynamic harmony memory. A local search is investigated to further improve quality of the solutions. Results of numerical experiments on classical benchmark instances show that the proposed algorithm can improve makespan 16.50% on average. © 2012 IEEE.

Netflow can be employed for accounting, anomaly detection and network monitoring, and can bring new data source for network management. But most IPv6 routers in CERNET2 backbone network don’t provide IPFIX or NetFlow flow record function. Netflow flow records don’t have the network performance information, such as RTT and packet loss ratio, so we hardly use the Netflow data to analyze the network performance. In this paper, we designs a NetFlow v9 measurement system (N9MS) which converts IPv6 packet headers into the Net-Flow v9 flow records and monitors the link performance with these flow records. The N9MS has two improvements to the traditional Cisco’s sampled NetFlow feature. Firstly, the Cisco’s sampling strategy is to sample packets, while that in the N9MS is flow sampling which can keep all packets in the sampled flows to infer network performance based on these sampled packets. Secondly, N9MS directly uses these sampled packets to calculate these performance metrics, such as round trip time (RTT) and packet loss ratio. We also define both RTT and packet loss ratio fields in the scalability NetFlow v9 template format. In this paper we also use the N9MS to monitor a 10Gbps backbone link between Nanjing site and the CNGI-CERNET2 backbone, and give some experimental results. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.

Packet loss may cause the degradation of network and application performance. This paper proposes a passive measurement method called LTS to estimate end-to-end path packet loss ratio for the two segments of the path divided by the monitor node. This method can estimate the packet loss ration of each segment and infer loss ratios based on IP headers identification field, TCP headers sequence number and packets interval. The segment estimation packet loss method can be useful to evaluate the performance of core network or internet work if the monitor is put in the border of a network. The algorithm is evaluated to use a test bed simulation measurement, and is analyzed reordering ratios and loss ratios based on the traces collected from the CERNET backbone links. © 2012 IEEE.

in high-voltage substations, poor contacts at the junctions of contacts can generate heat leading to high temperature, arc and fire disaster in serious condition. In this paper, we present a remote temperature monitor system to monitor and alarm when temperature of the contacts increases. The system measures temperature by sensor node based on low power consuming temperature sensor and Zigbee communication because power consuming becomes a critical fact constrained by long term running and inconvenient maintenance of high-voltage substations. In the system, sensor nodes are deployed on the contacts to be measured, cluster headers in charge of collecting data from sensor nodes are deployed on each distributor and cluster headers are connected with mast monitor computer via RS485 network. This paper presents design, implementation and test of sensor nodes, cluster headers and the master monitor software. © 2012 IEEE.

recently, intelligent home instruments developed fast and have been deployed widely while a crucial problem of how dealing the left devices and properties come up to the top of the water. This paper presents a remote gas meter reading system based on multimedia Zigbee networks and digital image recognition technologies to alleviate difficulties existing in traditional gas meter reading work while keeping existing gas meters unchanged. In the system, sensor nodes take picture of gas meter by a CMOS camera and send it to the sink node over multi-Zigbee-hop in a residential quarter. Then the gas providing company can access gas meter pictures through the Internet and recognize the data automatically by computer vision technology. Making up the gap between the high bandwidth consuming, high reliable requiring picture transport and the bandwidth constrained, error-prone Zigbee networks, this paper also proposes an opportunistic routing with network coding method to improve end-to-end throughput of the whole network. © 2012 IEEE.

A feedback-based timeout packets dropping strategy in real-time wireless sensor networks

Resource limited real-time wireless sensor network is a new type of application of sensor network. In this kind of networks, there are numerous invalid real-time packets, which have already expired or are destined to expire. In this paper, a feedback-based timeout packet dropping strategy (FBTPD) is proposed. With this strategy, timestamps are piggybacked in real-time packets. So that sink node can gather the historical information and estimate the future transmitting time of some sensor node. Then the estimated transmitting time is fed back to the sensor node in a feedback packet. The sensor node hereby drops the invalid realtime packets which will expire later. Simulation experiments reveal that: compared with other dropping policies, FBTPD can drop more invalid real-time packets, and can significantly improve the throughput of the non real-time packets. Thus FBTPD can efficiently boost the resources utilization in wireless sensor networks, especially in hybrid real-time wireless sensor networks. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.

With the increased development of cloud computing, access control policies have become an important issue in the security filed of cloud computing. Semantic web is the extension of current Web which aims at automation, integration and reuse of data among different web applications such as clouding computing. However, Semantic web applications pose some new requirements for security mechanisms especially in the access control models. In this paper, we analyse existing access control methods and present a semantic based access control model which considers semantic relations among different entities in cloud computing environment. We have enriched the research for semantic web technology with role-based access control that is able to be applied in the field of medical information system or e-Healthcare system. This work demonstrates how the semantic web technology provides efficient solutions for the management of complex and distributed data in heterogeneous systems, and it can be used in the medical information systems as well. © 2012 IEEE.

Intermittently Connected Mobile Ad Hoc networks (ICMANs) are mobile networks in which complete source-to-destination paths do not exist most of the time. This paper proposed a Predictable Adaptive Seed Spray routing (PASS) for intermittently connected mobile Ad Hoc networks. PASS is a cost-efficient delay-bounded routing protocol without network parameters and provides acceptable and resilient service in the face of challenged environments. Simulations have shown that PASS outperforms existing schemes such as Epidemic, binary spray & wait and AMR with respect to routing cost and adaptability.

In this paper, we investigate belief revision in possibilistic logic, which is a weighted logic proposed to deal with incomplete and uncertain information. Existing revision operators in possibilistic logic are restricted in the sense that the input information can only be a formula instead of a possibilistic knowledge base which is a set of weighted formulas. To break this restriction, we consider weighted prime implicants of a possibilistic knowledge base and use them to define novel revision operators in possibilistic logic. Intuitively, a weighted prime implicant of a possibilistic knowledge base is a logically weakest possibilistic term (i.e., a set of weighted literals) that can entail the knowledge base. We first show that the existing definition of a weighted prime implicant is problematic and need a modification. To define a revision operator using weighted prime implicants, we face two problems. The first problem is that we need to define the notion of a conflict set between two weighted prime implicants of two possibilistic knowledge bases to achieve minimal change. The second problem is that we need to define the disjunction of possibilistic terms. We solve these problems and define two conflict-based revision operators in possibilistic logic. We then adapt the well-known postulates for revision proposed by Katsuno and Mendelzon and show that our revision operators satisfy four of the basic adapted postulates and satisfy two others in some special cases.
