Extracting buildings from remote sensing images using deep learning techniques is a widely applied and crucial task. Convolutional Neural networks (CNNs) adopt hierarchical feature representation, showcasing powerful capabilities in extracting local information but facing challenges in capturing global features. Transformers can address this limitation, but they perform poorly in extracting local features and significantly increase memory requirements and computational complexity. To overcome these challenges, we propose a method for building extraction from remote sensing images called LGDB-Net (Local-Global Dual-Branch Network), employing a dual-branch approach. Firstly, inspired by Swin Transformer, we designed GB-Former(Global Branch-Former) as the backbone network to model global information. We use a linear multi-head self-attention mechanism to reduce time and memory complexity while maintaining a large global receptive field. Additionally, we replace the traditional multi-layer perceptron with a convolution-enhanced multi-layer perceptron to improve channel feature representation, reduce model parameters, and enhance segmentation performance. Secondly, we use multiple Depth-wise Conv3×3 + LN (Layer Normalization) + GeLU (Gaussian Error Linear Unit) modules as the auxiliary branch for local detailed feature extraction. Finally, we adopt a multi-scale feature fusion strategy to integrate feature information from both branches. We conduct a series of experiments on three datasets: WHU, Massachusetts, and Inria. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method not only effectively improves segmentation accuracy with lower building omission and commission rates but also significantly reduces model parameters and computational complexity. © 2024 IEEE.

Multimodal Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (MABSA) aims to extract aspect terms from text-image pairs and identify their sentiments. Previous methods are based on the premise that the image contains the objects referred by the aspects within the text. However, this condition cannot always be met, resulting in a suboptimal performance. In this paper, we propose COnditional Relation based Sentiment Analysis framework (CORSA). Specifically, we design a conditional relation detector (CRD) to mitigate the impact of the unmet conditional image. Moreover, we design a visual object localizer (VOL) to locate the exact condition-related visual regions associated with the aspects. With CRD and VOL, our CORSA framework takes a multi-task form. In addition, to effectively learn CORSA we conduct two types of annotations. One is the conditional relation using a pretrained referring expression comprehension model;the other is the bounding boxes of visual objects by a pretrained object detection model. Experiments on our built C-MABSA dataset show that CORSA consistently outperforms existing methods. Over-the-air computation(AirComp)has recently emerged as a promising multiple-access technique for fast wireless data aggregation(WDA)from distributed wireless devices(WDs). This paper investigates an energy harvesting (EH) AirComp system, in which multiple EH-powered single-antenna WDs simultaneously send wireless signals to a single-antenna access point (AP) with conventional energy supply for WDA via AirComp. Under this setup, we minimize the average computation mean square error(MSE)over a particular time period, by jointly optimizing the transmit energy allocation at the WDs and the AirComp denoising factors at the AP over time, subject to the energy causality constraints at individual WDs. First, we consider the offline scenario by assuming that the energy state information(ESI)and channel state information (CSI) are non-causally known at the beginning of the period, in which the formulated average MSE minimization corresponds to a non-convex optimization problem. We present a high-quality converged solution by using the techniques of alternating optimization and convex optimization. It is shown that for each WD,if the EH rate is sufficiently high,then the channel inversion power allocation is adopted;while if the EH rate is low, then all the harvested energy should be used up for transmission with proper energy allocation over time. Next, we consider the online scenario with causal ESI and CSI,in which the MSE minimization becomes a stochastic optimization *** this scenario, we present an offline-inspired online algorithm to obtain efficient online energy allocation designs by utilizing the obtained offline solutions. Finally,numerical results show that the proposed designs significantly outperform two benchmark schemes with power-halving and full-power transmission,respectively.

Medical entity disambiguation (MED) plays a crucial role in natural language processing and biomedical domains, which is the task of mapping ambiguous medical mentions to structured candidate medical entities from knowledge bases (KBs). However, existing methods for MED often fail to fully utilize the knowledge within medical KBs and overlook essential interactions between medical mentions and candidate entities, resulting in knowledge- and interaction-inefficient modeling and suboptimal disambiguation performance. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel approach, MED with Medical Mention Relation and Fine-grained Entity Knowledge (MMR-FEK). Specifically, MMR-FEK incorporates a mention relation fusion module and an entity knowledge fusion module, followed by an interaction module. The former employs a relation graph convolutional network to fuse mention relation information between medical mentions to enhance mention representations, while the latter leverages an attention mechanism to fuse synonym and type information of candidate entities to enhance entity representations. Afterwards, an interaction module is designed to employ a bidirectional attention mechanism to capture interactions between medical mentions and entities to generate the matching representation. Extensive experiments on two publicly available real-world datasets demonstrate MMR-FEK's superiority over state-of-the-art(SOTA) MED baselines across all metrics. The outbreak of COVID-19 has dramatically promoted the explosive proliferation of multi-party realtime video streaming (MRVS) services, represented by Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Different from Video-on-Demand (VoD) or live streaming, MRVS enables all-to-all realtime video communication, bringing significant challenges to service providing. First, unreliable network transmission can cause network loss, resulting in delay increase and visual quality degradation. Second, the transformation from two-party to multi-party communication makes resource scheduling much more difficult. Moreover, optimizing the overall QoE requires a global coordination, which is quite challenging given the various impact factors such as bitrate and *** this paper, we propose the SJA framework, which is, to our best knowledge, the first server-driven joint loss and bitrate adaptation framework in multi-party realtime video streaming services towards maximized QoE. We comprehensively design an appropriate QoE model for MRVS services to capture the interplay among perceptual quality, variations, bitrate mismatch, loss damage, and streaming delay. We mathematically formulate the QoE maximization problem in MRVS services. A Lyapunov-based relaxation and the SJA algorithm are further designed to address the optimization problem with close-to-optimal performance. Evaluations show that our framework can outperform the SOTA solutions by 18.4% ∼ 46.5%. © 2023 IEEE.

The predistortion models for radio frequency (RF) power amplifiers (PAs), such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and deep neural networks (DNNs), has shown a significant improvement in predistortion performance. However, digital predistortion (DPD) models with neural network structures encounter challenges related to high computational complexity and prolonged training duration. In this study, we propose a DPD model utilizing a low complexity convolutional neural network (LCCNN). The proposed model simplifies the traditional CNN structure, employing an augmented real-valued cross-memorized terms (ARCT) matrix as input layer, and configuring convolutional layer to extract nonlinear features through macro convolutional kernels. Furthermore, migration learning and pruning operations are implemented to expedite model training and parameter reduction, thereby decreasing training duration and floating-point operations (FLOPs). The experiment results based on a 160 MHz Doherty PA indicate that the proposed model effectively reduces computational complexity while maintaining required predistortion performance.

By leveraging smart devices [e.g., industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)] and real-time data analytics, organizations, such as production plants can benefit from increased productivity, reduced costs, enhanced self-monitoring, and autonomous decision-making. In such a setting, machine learning plays an important role in data analytics, but the use of conventional centralized machine learning solutions may raise uncomfortable concerns about data privacy. Hence, one can explore the use of federated learning. In this article, we propose privacy-preserving deep neural network training (PpNNT), which is designed to support federated learning in the multiparty setting. To minimize the overall costs, we further design a hybrid architecture to fully maximize resource utilization. Our proposed design allows the PpNNT system to provide high security, efficiency, and scalability for IIoT data analytics, as evidenced by our theoretical security proof and experimental results on the CIFAR10 dataset. © 2020 IEEE.

CAT: a coarse-to-fine attention tree for semantic change detection

Semantic change detection (SCD) and land cover mapping (LCM) are always treated as a dual task in the field of remote sensing. However, due to diverse real-world scenarios, many SCD categories are not easy to be clearly recognized, such as “water-vegetation” and “water-tree”, which can be regarded as fine-grained differences. In addition, even a single LCM category is usually difficult to define. For instance, some “vegetation” categories with litter vegetation coverage are easily confused with the general “ground” category. SCD/LCM becomes challenging under both challenges of its fine-grained nature and label ambiguity. In this paper, we tackle the SCD and LCM tasks simultaneously by proposing a coarse-to-fine attention tree (CAT) model. Specifically, it consists of an encoder, a decoder and a coarse-to-fine attention tree module. The encoder-decoder structure extracts the high-level features from input multi-temporal images first and then reconstructs them to return SCD and LCM predictions. Our coarse-to-fine attention tree, on the one hand, utilizes the tree structure to better model a hierarchy of categories by predicting the coarse-grained labels first and then predicting the fine-grained labels later. On the other hand, it applies the attention mechanism to capture discriminative pixel regions. Furthermore, to address label ambiguity in SCD/LCM, we also equip a label distribution learning loss upon our model. Experiments on the large-scale SECOND dataset justify that the proposed CAT model outperforms state-of-the-art models. Moreover, various ablation studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of tailored designs in the CAT model for solving semantic change detection problems. © The Author(s) 2023.

SkinFormer: Learning Statistical Texture Representation with Transformer for Skin Lesion Segmentation

Accurate skin lesion segmentation from dermoscopic images is of great importance for skin cancer diagnosis. However, automatic segmentation of melanoma remains a challenging task because it is difficult to incorporate useful texture representations into the learning process. Texture representations are not only related to the local structural information learned by CNN, but also include the global statistical texture information of the input image. In this paper, we propose a transFormer network (SkinFormer) that efficiently extracts and fuses statistical texture representation for Skin lesion segmentation. Specifically, to quantify the statistical texture of input features, a Kurtosis-guided Statistical Counting Operator is designed. We propose Statistical Texture Fusion Transformer and Statistical Texture Enhance Transformer with the help of Kurtosis-guided Statistical Counting Operator by utilizing the transformer’s global attention mechanism. The former fuses structural texture information and statistical texture information, and the latter enhances the statistical texture of multi-scale features. Extensive experiments on three publicly available skin lesion datasets validate that our SkinFormer outperforms other SOAT methods, and our method achieves 93.2% Dice score on ISIC 2018.
