Workload prediction is critical in enabling proactive resource management of cloud *** workload prediction is valuable for cloud users and providers as it can effectively guide many practices,such as performance assurance,cost reduction,and energy consumption ***,cloud workload prediction is highly challenging due to the complexity and dynamics of workloads,and various solutions have been proposed to enhance the prediction *** paper aims to provide an in-depth understanding and categorization of existing solutions through extensive literature *** existing surveys,for the first time,we comprehensively sort out and analyze the development landscape of workload prediction from a new perspective,i.e.,application-oriented rather than prediction methodologies per ***,we first introduce the basic features of workload prediction,and then analyze and categorize existing efforts based on two significant characteristics of cloud applications:variability and ***,we also investigate how workload prediction is applied to resource ***,open research opportunities in workload prediction are highlighted to foster further advancements.

Unsupervised Meteorological Downscaling Based on Dual Learning and Subgrid-scale Auxiliary Information

Climate downscaling is used to transform large-scale meteorological data into small-scale data with enhanced detail,which finds wide applications in climate modeling,numerical weather forecasting,and renewable *** deeplearning-based downscaling methods effectively capture the complex nonlinear mapping between meteorological data of varying scales,the supervised deep-learning-based downscaling methods suffer from insufficient high-resolution data in practice,and unsupervised methods struggle with accurately inferring small-scale specifics from limited large-scale inputs due to small-scale *** article presents DualDS,a dual-learning framework utilizing a Generative Adversarial Network–based neural network and subgrid-scale auxiliary information for climate *** a learning method is unified in a two-stream framework through up-and downsamplers,where the downsampler is used to simulate the information loss process during the upscaling,and the upsampler is used to reconstruct lost details and correct errors incurred during the *** dual learning strategy can eliminate the dependence on high-resolution ground truth data in the training process and refine the downscaling results by constraining the mapping *** findings demonstrate that DualDS is comparable to several state-of-the-art deep learning downscaling approaches,both qualitatively and ***,for a single surface-temperature data downscaling task,our method is comparable with other unsupervised algorithms with the same dataset,and we can achieve a 0.469 dB higher peak signal-to-noise ratio,0.017 higher structural similarity,0.08 lower RMSE,and the best correlation *** summary,this paper presents a novel approach to addressing small-scale uncertainty issues in unsupervised downscaling processes.

Unsupervised Low-Light Image Enhancement Based on Explicit Denoising and Knowledge Distillation

Under low-illumination conditions, the quality of image signals deteriorates significantly, typically characterized by a peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) below 10 dB, which severely limits the usability of the images. Supervised methods, which utilize paired high-low light images as training sets, can enhance the PSNR to around 20 dB, significantly improving image quality. However, such data is challenging to obtain. In recent years, unsupervised low-light image enhancement (LIE) methods based on the Retinex framework have been proposed, but they generally lag behind supervised methods by 5–10 dB in performance. In this paper, we introduce the Denoising-Distilled Retine (DDR) method, an unsupervised approach that integrates denoising priors into a Retinex-based training framework. By explicitly incorporating denoising, the DDR method effectively addresses the challenges of noise and artifacts in low-light images, thereby enhancing the performance of the Retinex framework. The model achieved a PSNR of 19.82 dB on the LOL dataset, which is comparable to the performance of supervised methods. Furthermore, by applying knowledge distillation, the DDR method optimizes the model for real-time processing of low-light images, achieving a processing speed of 199.7 fps without incurring additional computational costs. While the DDR method has demonstrated superior performance in terms of image quality and processing speed, there is still room for improvement in terms of robustness across different color spaces and under highly resource-constrained conditions. Future research will focus on enhancing the model’s generalizability and adaptability to address these challenges. Our rigorous testing on public datasets further substantiates the DDR method’s state-of-the-art performance in both image quality and processing speed.

THL: Fast Targeted High Utility Itemset Mining within Length Consideration

High utility itemset mining is a research topic of the pattern mining domain, which has been widely applied in reality during the past decade. Although most high utility itemset mining algorithms show significant execution performance regarding runtime and memory usage, numerous results are useless for users. Targeted high utility itemset mining can reduce the number of high utility itemsets and improve the efficiency of pattern analysis. However, the targeted high utility itemset mining task aims to find targeted high utility itemsets with as many items as possible. Users are not that interested in long results in actual scenarios. Therefore, in this article, we first formulate the problem and then address this issue by proposing a new algorithm named THL for mining targeted high utility itemset within length constraints, based on utility list structure. Furthermore, to improve the performance of the novel algorithm, THL adopts several efficiency pruning strategies, including length and utility aspects. In this paper,we investigate a multi-UAV aided NOMA communication system,where multiple UAV-mounted aerial base stations are employed to serve ground users in the downlink NOMA communication,and each UAV serves its associated users on its own *** aim at maximizing the overall common throughput in a finite time *** a problem is a typical mixed integer nonlinear problem,which involves both continuous-variable and combinatorial *** efficiently solve this problem,we propose a two-layer algorithm,which separately tackles continuous-variable and combinatorial ***,in the inner layer given one user association scheme,subproblems of bandwidth allocation,power allocation and trajectory design are solved based on alternating *** the outer layer,a small number of candidate user association schemes are generated from an initial scheme and the best solution can be determined by comparing all the candidate *** particular,a clustering algorithm based on K-means is applied to produce all candidate user association schemes,the successive convex optimization technique is adopted in the power allocation subproblem and a logistic function approximation approach is employed in the trajectory design *** results show that the proposed NOMA scheme outperforms three baseline schemes in downlink common throughput,including one solution proposed in an existing literature.

3DGCformer: 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional transformer for multi-step origin–destination matrix forecasting

Forecasting Human mobility is of great significance in the simulation and control of infectious diseases like COVID-19. To get a clear picture of potential future outbreaks, it is necessary to forecast multi-step Origin–Destination (OD) matrices for a relatively long period in the future. However, multi-step Origin–Destination Matrix Forecasting (ODMF) is a non-trivial problem. First, previous ODMF models only forecast the OD matrix for the next time-step, and they cannot perform well on long-term multi-step forecasts due to error accumulation. Second, many ODMF methods capture spatial and temporal dependencies with separate modules, which is insufficient to model spatio-temporal correlations in the time-varying OD matrix sequence. To address the challenges in multi-step ODMF, we propose 3-Dimensional Graph Convolutional Transformer (3DGCformer). As an enhancement of the original 3DGCN, we propose a novel Origin–Destination Feature Propagation (ODFP) rule between 3DGCN layers and integrate 2 3DGCNs with different spatio-temporal graphs and corresponding feature propagation rules to model the formation of OD flows in a more comprehensive way. For multi-step forecasts, 3DGCformer uses Transformer to capture long-term global temporal dependency, and adapt its decoder using labeled tokens to avoid error accumulation and improve time efficiency. To avoid information loss as the number of regions increases, we propose a patch embedding approach to convert data from 3DGCNs to the Transformer module. We perform extensive experiments on 4 real-world human mobility datasets, and the results show that our proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

MARS is a toolchain, supporting model-based design of cyber-physical systems (CPS), which integrates informal and formal design. With MARS, a system under development can be graphically modeled by the combination of AADL and Simulink/Stateflow, then the simulation of the graphical model can be conducted. Furthermore, the graphical model can be automatically transformed to Hybrid Communicating Sequential Processes (HCSP) for formal verification with HHLProver. Finally, ANSI-C code or systemC code can be generated from the verified HCSP formal model with the guarantee of correctness. As a case study of CPS, in this paper, we apply MARS to design an intelligent temperature control system, including its modeling, simulation, verification and code generation. This case study demonstrates the advantages of the design of CPS with MARS, including the integration of modeling, simulation, verification and code generation;the integration of informal and formal design, thus providing balance between efficiency and rigidity. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
