A granular-ball generation method based on local density for classification

As a new branch of granular computing, granular-ball computing (GBC) has become increasingly popular due to its high efficiency, robustness, and scalability. However, in classification tasks, the existing mainstream methods for generating granular-ball (GB) have two common issues: GBs generated by the existing methods are not accurate enough to describe the distribution of the original data and there are de-overlap operations in the existing GB generation process, which increase the workload of the GB generation process. Therefore, to solve the above two issues, a GB generation method based on local density (LDGBG) is proposed in this paper. First, centers of GBs are selected based on local density to ensure the generated GBs are more consistent with the original data distribution. Second, the method for calculating radii avoids overlaps and incorporates the idea of compact within class and decentralized between classes, which will improve classification performance. Furthermore, a sparsity index is introduced to assess the sparsity of datasets, thereby enabling more effective utilization of original samples in sparse datasets. Finally, comparative experiments are conducted on 27 benchmark datasets and the experimental results show that LDGBG is superior to the existing mainstream models in effectiveness and robustness. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.

Generalized Category Discovery with Large Language Models in the Loop

Generalized Category Discovery (GCD) is a crucial task that aims to recognize both known and novel categories from a set of unlabeled data by utilizing a few labeled data with only known categories. Due to the lack of supervision and category information, current methods usually perform poorly on novel categories and struggle to reveal semantic meanings of the discovered clusters, which limits their applications in the real world. To mitigate the above issues, we propose Loop, an end-to-end active-learning framework that introduces Large Language Models (LLMs) 1 into the training loop, which can boost model performance and generate category names without relying on any human efforts. Specifically, we first propose Local Inconsistent Sampling (LIS) to select samples that have a higher probability of falling to wrong clusters, based on neighborhood prediction consistency and entropy of cluster assignment probabilities. Then we propose a Scalable Query strategy to allow LLMs to choose true neighbors of the selected samples from multiple candidate samples. Based on the feedback from LLMs, we perform Refined Neighborhood Contrastive Learning (RNCL) to pull samples and their neighbors closer to learn clustering-friendly representations. Finally, we select representative samples from clusters corresponding to novel categories to allow LLMs to generate category names for them. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets show that Loop outperforms SOTA models by a large margin and generates accurate category names for the discovered clusters. The Ecological Civilization Pattern Recommendation System (ECPRS) aims to recommend suitable ecological civilization patterns for target regions, promoting sustainable development and reducing regional disparities. However, the current representative recommendation methods are not suitable for recommending ecological civilization patterns in a geographical context. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, regions have spatial heterogeneity, and the (ECPRS)needs to consider factors like climate, topography, vegetation, etc., to recommend civilization patterns adapted to specific ecological environments, ensuring the feasibility and practicality of the recommendations. Secondly, the abstract features of the ecological civilization patterns in the real world have not been fully utilized., resulting in poor richness in their embedding representations and consequently, lower performance of the recommendation system. Considering these limitations, we propose the ECPR-MML method. Initially, based on the novel method UGPIG, we construct a knowledge graph to extract regional representations incorporating spatial heterogeneity features. Following that, inspired by the significant progress made by Large Language Models (LLMs) in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP), we employ Large LLMs to generate multimodal features for ecological civilization patterns in the form of text and images. We extract and integrate these multimodal features to obtain semantically rich representations of ecological civilization. Through extensive experiments, we validate the performance of our ECPR-MML model. Our results show that F1@5 is 2.11% higher compared to state-of-the-art models, 2.02% higher than NGCF, and 1.16% higher than UGPIG. Furthermore, multimodal data can indeed enhance recommendation performance. However, the data generated by LLM is not as effective as real data to a certain extent." Copyright © 2023, The Authors. The complementary benefits from visible and thermal infrared data are widely utilized in various computer vision task, such as visual tracking, semantic segmentation and object detection, but rarely explored in Multiple Object Tracking (MOT). In this work, we contribute a large-scale Visible-Thermal video benchmark for MOT, called VT-MOT. VT-MOT has the following main advantages. 1) The data is large scale and high diversity. VT-MOT includes 582 video sequence pairs, 401k frame pairs from surveillance, drone, and handheld platforms. 2) The cross-modal alignment is highly accurate. We invite several professionals to perform both spatial and temporal alignment frame by frame. 3) The annotation is dense and high-quality. VT-MOT has 3.99 million annotation boxes annotated and double-checked by professionals, including heavy occlusion and object re-acquisition (object disappear and reappear) challenges. To provide a strong baseline, we design a simple yet effective tracking framework, which effectively fuses temporal information and complementary information of two modalities in a progressive manner, for robust visible-thermal MOT. A comprehensive experiment are conducted on VT-MOT and the results prove the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed method compared with state-of-the-art methods. Blockchain technology has the characteristics of decentralization and tamper resistance, which can store data safely and reduce the cost of trust effectively. However, the existing blockchain system has weak performance in data management, and only supports traversal queries with transaction hashes as keywords. The query method based on the account transaction trace chain (ATTC) improves the query efficiency of historical transactions of the account. However, the efficiency of querying accounts with longer transaction chains has not been effectively improved. Given the inefficiency and single method of the ATTC index in the query, we propose a subchain-based account transaction chain (SCATC) index structure. First, the account transaction chain is divided into subchains, and the last block of each subchain is connected by a hash pointer. The block-by-block query mode in ATTC is converted to the subchain-by-subchain query mode, which shortens the query path;then, the query algorithm is given for the SCATC index structure. The sharing of Internet of Things (IoT) data plays an extensive role in our everyday lives. Exploring secure and efficient methods for data sharing is a prominent area of research. Proxy re-encryption (PRE) in the cloud provides a solution. However, traditional PRE schemes are vulnerable to algorithm substitution attacks (ASA). Moreover, in most PRE schemes, the proxy can know the relevant identity information of the data owner or the data recipient through the re-encryption key, and some current PRE schemes cannot guarantee strong resistance to collision. To address the limitations of traditional PRE schemes and offer a robust solution for secure and efficient data sharing in IoT application, we propose a reverse firewall for proxy re-encryption (PRE-RF) scheme, which we implement using the JPBC library. The security analysis reveals that the PRE-RF scheme offers effective resistance against ASA, while also providing strong collision security, chosen plaintext attack security, and key-private security. Compared to similar PRE schemes with more security features, our scheme reduces the length of the re-encryption keys and ciphertext, thereby reducing the storage cost of the system;also, our scheme’s computational cost is lower, thereby improving the operational efficiency of the system. Furthermore, as security levels rise, the portion of time dedicated to reverse firewall operations within our scheme diminishes. These advantages collectively render it a secure and efficient choice for sharing IoT data in unreliable cloud environments. © 2004-2012 IEEE All rights reserved.

Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is a new computing paradigm that enables cloud computing and information technology (IT) services to be delivered at the network’s edge. By shifting the load of cloud computing to individual local servers, MEC helps meet the requirements of ultralow latency, localized data processing, and extends the potential of Internet of Things (IoT) for end-users. However, the crosscutting nature of MEC and the multidisciplinary components necessary for its deployment have presented additional security and privacy concerns. Fortunately, Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms can cope with excessively unpredictable and complex data, which offers a distinct advantage in dealing with sophisticated and developing adversaries in the security industry. Hence, in this paper we comprehensively provide a survey of security and privacy in MEC from the perspective of AI. On the one hand, we use European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) MEC reference architecture as our based framework while merging the Software Defined Network (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) to better illustrate a serviceable platform of MEC. On the other hand, we focus on new security and privacy issues, as well as potential solutions from the viewpoints of AI. Finally, we comprehensively discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with applying AI to MEC security and privacy as possible future research directions. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Video object detection is a fundamental technology of intelligent video analytics for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. However, even with extraordinary detection accuracy, predominating solutions based on deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) cannot achieve real-time online object detection on video streams with a low end-to-end (E2E) response latency and therefore cannot be applied to proliferating latency-sensitive IoT applications like autonomous driving requiring large-scale intelligent video analytics. To address this issue, we present EC2Detect, an edge-cloud collaborative real-time online video object detection method. Specifically, we propose a tracking-assisted object detection architecture based on edge-cloud collaboration with keyframe selection, where the accurate but heavy object detection is conducted by the Cloud on sparse keyframes adaptively selected according to their semantic variation, and the lightweight object tracking is used to localize and identify objects in other frames at edge devices. Extensive experiments of our real-world prototype demonstrate that, EC2Detect significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods in terms of processing speed (up to $4.77\times $ faster), E2E latency (up to $8.12 \times $ lower), and edge-cloud bandwidth occupation ( $17 \times $ lower) with an acceptable mAP, which can effectively support large-scale intelligent video analytics in practice. ReconBoost: Boosting Can Achieve Modality Reconcilement

This paper explores a novel multi-modal alternating learning paradigm pursuing a reconciliation between the exploitation of uni-modal features and the exploration of cross-modal interactions. This is motivated by the fact that current paradigms of multi-modal learning tend to explore multi-modal features simultaneously. The resulting gradient prohibits further exploitation of the features in the weak modality, leading to modality competition, where the dominant modality overpowers the learning process. To address this issue, we study the modality-alternating learning paradigm to achieve reconcilement. Specifically, we propose a new method called ReconBoost to update a fixed modality each time. Herein, the learning objective is dynamically adjusted with a reconcilement regularization against competition with the historical models. By choosing a KL-based reconcilement, we show that the proposed method resembles Friedman's Gradient-Boosting (GB) algorithm, where the updated learner can correct errors made by others and help enhance the overall performance. The major difference with the classic GB is that we only preserve the newest model for each modality to avoid overfitting caused by ensembling strong learners. Furthermore, we propose a memory consolidation scheme and a global rectification scheme to make this strategy more effective.
