To mitigate the rising concern about privacy leakage, the federated recommender (FR) paradigm emerges, in which decentralized clients co-train the recommendation model without exposing their raw user-item rating data. The differentially private federated recommender (DPFR) further enhances FR by injecting differentially private (DP) noises into clients. Yet, current DPFRs, suffering from noise distortion, cannot achieve satisfactory accuracy. Various efforts have been dedicated to improving DPFRs by adaptively allocating the privacy budget over the learning process. However, due to the intricate relation between privacy budget allocation and model accuracy, existing works are still far from maximizing DPFR accuracy. To address this challenge, we develop BGTplanner (Budget Planner) to strategically allocate the privacy budget for each round of DPFR training, improving overall training performance. Specifically, we leverage the Gaussian process regression and historical information to predict the change in recommendation accuracy with a certain allocated privacy budget. Additionally, Contextual Multi-Armed Bandit (CMAB) is harnessed to make privacy budget allocation decisions by reconciling the current improvement and long-term privacy constraints. Our extensive experimental results on real datasets demonstrate that BGTplanner achieves an average improvement of 6.76% in training performance compared to state-of-the-art baselines. With the rapid development of social networks, people are increasingly interested in sharing their location. Location recommendation has become an important personalization service for location-based social networks (LBSN). Location rating is one of the important tools. However, location-based social networks contain multidimensional network structures and node information. Existing approaches mostly focus on network structures that utilize one of these dimensions, which makes it difficult to efficiently aggregate information from multiple dimensions simultaneously. To overcome these difficulties, one of the recent approaches is the social recommendation based on graph neural networks (GNNs). Based on this, this paper proposes a graph neural network framework for location rating. Graph neural networks are highly inductive and can efficiently aggregate network structure and node information. In particular, the method not only aggregates homogeneous social networks composed of user and heterogeneous bipartite graphs composed of user-location, but also constructs location networks using location sequences to propose an aggregation model for location networks. Experiments are conducted on two datasets, and the results show that the method improves on the root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) metrics.

With the development and application of computer vision, many target detection networks are applied to the detection of floating objects in rivers. For the detection problems such as small targets easily missed and misdetected in water surface floating object detection tasks and difficult to deploy models. An edge computing-oriented approach to river floater detection is proposed. First, a four-fold down-sampling feature layer is added to the YOLOv5 network which enhances more target detail features and improves the detection capability of small objects. Second, CA (Coordinate Attention) is added to the Backbone to suppress background noise interference, and different pooling is used to accommodate different hierarchical features. Then, a bilinear interpolation method is adopted for up-sampling to avoid the loss of small object features. Design a data enhancement algorithm for small targets based on Mosaic to increase the number of small objects and enrich the training background. Finally, for the edge computing architecture platform, the channel pruning algorithm is used to prune and compress the model structure to adapt to the computing capability of edge devices. The experimental results show that the method can effectively improve the detection capability of the network for floating objects on the water surface. The detection accuracy can reach 93.6%, and the detection speed can be maintained at 36 frames per second, which can achieve high-precision real-time detection of floating objects on the water surface. © 2023 IEEE.

Gradient perturbation, widely used for differentially private optimization, injects noise at every iterative update to guarantee differential privacy. Previous work first determines the noise level that can satisfy the privacy requirement and then analyzes the utility of noisy gradient updates as in the non-private case. In contrast, we explore how the privacy noise affects the optimization property. We show that for differentially private convex optimization, the utility guarantee of differentially private (stochastic) gradient descent is determined by an expected curvature rather than the minimum curvature. The expected curvature, which represents the average curvature over the optimization path, is usually much larger than the minimum curvature. By using the expected curvature, we show that gradient perturbation can achieve a significantly improved utility guarantee that can theoretically justify the advantage of gradient perturbation over other perturbation methods. Finally, our extensive experiments suggest that gradient perturbation with the advanced composition method indeed outperforms other perturbation approaches by a large margin, matching our theoretical findings. © 2020 Inst. The multitrip pickup and delivery problem with time windows and manpower planning(MTPDPTW-MP)determines a set of ambulance routes and finds staff assignment for a hospital. It involves different stakeholders with diverse interests and objectives. This study firstly introduces a multiobjective MTPDPTW-MP(MO-MTPDPTWMP) with three objectives to better describe the real-world scenario. A multiobjective iterated local search algorithm with adaptive neighborhood selection(MOILS-ANS) is proposed to solve the problem. MOILS-ANS can generate a diverse set of alternative solutions for decision makers to meet their requirements. To better explore the search space, problem-specific neighborhood structures and an adaptive neighborhood selection strategy are carefully designed in MOILS-ANS. Experimental results show that the proposed MOILS-ANS significantly outperforms the other two multiobjective algorithms. Besides, the nature of objective functions and the properties of the problem are analyzed. Finally, the proposed MOILS-ANS is compared with the previous single-objective algorithm and the benefits of multiobjective optimization are discussed.

Fact checking is a challenging task because verifying the truthfulness of a claim requires reasoning about multiple retrievable evidence. In this work, we present a method suitable for reasoning about the semantic-level structure of evidence. Unlike most previous works, which typically represent evidence sentences with either string concatenation or fusing the features of isolated evidence sentences, our approach operates on rich semantic structures of evidence obtained by semantic role labeling. We propose two mechanisms to exploit the structure of evidence while leveraging the advances of pre-trained models like BERT, GPT or XLNet. Specifically, using XLNet as the backbone, we first utilize the graph structure to re-define the relative distances of words, with the intuition that semantically related words should have short distances. Then, we adopt graph convolutional network and graph attention network to propagate and aggregate information from neighboring nodes on the graph. We evaluate our system on FEVER, a benchmark dataset for fact checking, and find that rich structural information is helpful and both our graph-based mechanisms improve the accuracy. Our model is the state-of-the-art system in terms of both official evaluation metrics, namely claim verification accuracy and FEVER score. © 2020 Association for Computational Linguistics

Cardiotocography (CTG) is frequently used as a method of diagnosing fetal distress during pregnancy and delivery, including listening to Fetal Heart Rate (FHR) and monitoring Uterine Contractions (UC). Many scholars have contributed to classify CTG data through machine learning methods, intending to reduce the consuming-time and mistakes during obstetricians’ identification. In this study, we used repeated holdout cross-validation for data pre-processing and classified the CTG dataset as a normal class and pathological class. Sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and AUC were involved to measure the performance of the models. According to the results of ASSEMBLE AdaBoost and AdaBoost, we can conclude that ASSEMBLE AdaBoost is robust in the classification of CTG data. Training with few labeled data and amounts of unlabeled data, ASSEMBLE AdaBoost achieved an accuracy of over 90%, which was superior to AdaBoost. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In this paper, a new integrated scheme is proposed to accurately predict breast cancer, help doctors make early diagnosis and treatment plans, and improve the prognosis of patients. We selects five mainstream machine learning models: support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN), random forest (RF), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and adaptive boosting (AdaBoost). The Wisconsin Breast Cancer database (WBCD) and Wisconsin Diagnostic Breast Cancer (WDBC) are used as datasets to investigate the predictive performance of these single and ensemble models. Then, we use multiple linear regression method for feature selection (FS), the experimental results show that the change of feature subset will significantly affect the performance of the model. After that, we apply whale optimization algorithm (WOA) to optimize the hyperparameters of the model to improve their prediction performance. In addition, we ensemble these models by stacking, investigate the performance changes of the ensemble model when different models are used as meta learners. Finally, the FS-WOA-Stacking model achieves 99.56% accuracy on WBCD and 99.65% accuracy on WDBC. Compared with the existing breast cancer prediction models, the performance of the proposed model is at an excellent level. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

As the deadliest form of pollution, air pollution had a prolonged severe damage to the human health and life safety of nearly 99% of the world's population. Facing to the problem that billions of tons of pollutants discharged into the air per year by industrial activities, this paper proposed a novel image-based air pollution monitor (IAPM) by incorporating local and global information in the self-adaptive multiscale transform domain, so as to achieve the timely and effective leakage detection of typical air pollutants from a single image. To be specific, this paper first developed a screen-shaped module according to two significant findings in visual neuroscience, which include the high sensitivity of human eyes to horizontal and vertical stimuli and the center-surround inhibition, by designing and fusing the square module, horizontal strip module and vertical strip module parallelly for simulating the behaviour of human eyes to extract local features. Second, the learnable weights and proportional mapping were applied to incorporate the screen-shaped module and lightweight vision transformer as backbone, towards more richly exploiting and fusing local and global information just as the way a brain perceives external stimuli. Third, a new self-adaptive multiscale transform domain method was devised based on two motivations from the visual characteristics of multiscale perception and the brain characteristics of self-adaptive domain transform to modify the backbone by using the operations of pooling and pointwise convolution. Extensive experiments implemented on the datasets of carbon particulate matters and ethylene leakage confirmed the superior monitoring performance of the proposed IAPM model beyond the state-of-the-art (SOTA) peers by an accuracy gain of about 4%. Furthermore, the proposed IAPM model only required 0.089 GFLOPs and 0.15 million model parameters, remarkably outperforming SOTA competitors in computational efficiency and storage resources. © 1999-2
