Speech-based interaction systems are widely used in mobile devices like smartphones. With advances in deep neural networks, tasks such as speech emotion recognition (SER) enhance these systems’ user-friendliness. However, deploying SER models on mobile devices is challenging due to their complexity and computational demands. While pruning can reduce complexity, it often compromises accuracy, and hardware accelerators like FPGAs are difficult to integrate into mobile devices. This paper proposes AMSER, a real-time speech emotion recognition framework using signal compression and task offloading. AMSER utilizes logarithmic Mel-filter bank coefficients (Fbank) and singular value decomposition (SVD) for feature extraction and compression. The compressed signal is only 6.25% of the original size, achieving 2.24x faster transfer rates and 55.35% energy savings compared to raw audio transmission. Despite the compression, the features preserve key audio information for text and emotion recognition, performed server-side. Experiments show a WER of 4.68% (Librispeech), 10.69% (CommonVoice), and 69.83% emotion recognition accuracy (IEMOCAP).

With the continuous development of cloud computing, the demand for cloud services in all walks of life is increasing. The scale of cloud computing services based on container technology is constantly growing, and Kubernetes has been widely used as a mainstream tool for container orchestration. It supports functions such as automatic deployment and service discovery, dramatically simplifies the container deployment process, and improves the availability and reliability of applications in cloud environments. However, the default scheduling strategy of Kubernetes adopts the greedy idea of first-come-first-served when facing multi-pod tasks, and schedules Pods to working nodes one by one. This scheduling scheme will lead to unbalanced cluster load and low resource utilization. To solve this problem, this paper introduces the selection, crossover, and mutation ideas in genetic algorithms into the artificial fish school algorithm, improves the foraging behavior in the artificial fish school algorithm, and constructs a custom scheduling strategy based on the enhanced artificial fish school algorithm. Experiments have shown that compared with the default scheduling strategy of Kubernetes, the customized scheduling strategy in this paper can effectively improve the load balancing of the cluster and improve the utilization of cluster hardware resources in the scenario of multi-pod scheduling.

With the rapid development of document digitization, people have become accustomed to capturing and processing documents using electronic devices such as smartphones. However, the captured document images often suffer from issues like shadows and noise due to environmental factors, which can affect their readability. To improve the quality of captured document images, researchers have proposed a series of models or frameworks and applied them in distinct scenarios such as image enhancement, and document information extraction. In this paper, we primarily focus on shadow removal methods and open-source datasets. We concentrate on recent advancements in this area, first organizing and analyzing nine available datasets. Then, the methods are categorized into conventional methods and neural network-based methods. Conventional methods use manually designed features and include shadow map-based approaches and illumination-based approaches. Neural network-based methods automatically generate features from data and are divided into single-stage approaches and multi-stage approaches. We detail representative algorithms and briefly describe some typical techniques. Finally, we analyze and discuss experimental results, identifying the limitations of datasets and methods. Future research directions are discussed, and nine suggestions for shadow removal from document images are proposed. To our knowledge, this is the first survey of shadow removal methods and related datasets from document images.

Efficient Sharing of Energy Consumption data: A Privacy-Preserving Threshold Aggregation Approach

Energy consumption data collected by smart meters is increasingly used by various subscribers in the smart grid for load management, energy monitoring, and policy planning. To protect user privacy, edge-assisted privacy-preserving data aggregation (PPDA) techniques are commonly employed. However, existing methods face several challenges: i) limited scalability, ii) strict trust requirements, and iii) the risk of revealing unique consumption patterns to data collectors. To address these challenges, we propose a privacy-preserving threshold aggregation method that is easily scalable and facilitates efficient energy data sharing under limited trust assumptions. Specifically, we design VFPNTRU, a quantum-resistant homomorphic proxy re-encryption scheme with fault tolerance and re-encryption verification. In VFP-NTRU, smart meters can encrypt data with a public key without the need for prior negotiation of decryption keys with multiple subscribers. Additionally, we develop a privacy threshold collection protocol that uses a verifiable oblivious pseudorandom function to provide privacy guarantees similar to k-anonymity for SM data collection. We further introduce an energy consumption model to determine optimal collection strategies, improving system responsiveness. We provide correctness analysis and prove the security of our scheme. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach outperforms existing PPDA methods, making it particularly suitable for resource-constrained smart meters and central servers managing large-scale energy data. © 2014 IEEE.

UAV-assisted Joint Mobile Edge Computing and data Collection via Matching-enabled Deep Reinforcement Learning

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted mobile edge computing (MEC) and data collection (DC) have been popular research issues. Different from existing works that consider MEC and DC scenarios separately, this paper investigates a multi-UAV-assisted joint MEC-DC system. Specifically, we formulate a joint optimization problem to minimize the MEC latency and maximize the collected data volume. This problem can be classified as a non-convex mixed integer programming problem that exhibits long-term optimization and dynamics. Thus, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based approach that jointly optimizes the UAV movement, user transmit power, and user association in real time to solve the problem efficiently. Specifically, we reformulate the optimization problem into an action space-reduced Markov decision process (MDP) and optimize the user association by using a two-phase matching-based association (TMA) strategy. Subsequently, we propose a soft actor-critic (SAC)-based approach that integrates the proposed TMA strategy (SAC-TMA) to solve the formulated joint optimization problem collaboratively. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SAC-TMA is able to coordinate the two subsystems and can effectively reduce the system latency and improve the data collection volume compared with other benchmark algorithms. HGFormer: Topology-Aware Vision Transformer with HyperGraph Learning

The computer vision community has witnessed an extensive exploration of vision transformers in the past two years. Drawing inspiration from traditional schemes, numerous works focus on introducing vision-specific inductive biases. However, the implicit modeling of permutation invariance and fully-connected interaction with individual tokens disrupts the regional context and spatial topology, further hindering higher-order modeling. This deviates from the principle of perceptual organization that emphasizes the local groups and overall topology of visual elements. Thus, we introduce the concept of hypergraph for perceptual exploration. Specifically, we propose a topology-aware vision transformer called HyperGraph Transformer (HGFormer). Firstly, we present a Center Sampling K-Nearest Neighbors (CS-KNN) algorithm for semantic guidance during hypergraph construction. Secondly, we present a topology-aware HyperGraph Attention (HGA) mechanism that integrates hypergraph topology as perceptual indications to guide the aggregation of global and unbiased information during hypergraph messaging. Using HGFormer as visual backbone, we develop an effective and unitive representation, achieving distinct and detailed scene depictions. Empirical experiments show that the proposed HGFormer achieves competitive performance compared to the recent SoTA counterparts on various visual benchmarks. Extensive ablation and visualization studies provide comprehensive explanations of our ideas and contributions. © 2025 IEEE.

Explicit and Implicit Consumer Electronics Information Integration via Automatic Large Language Model Construction

—Integrating diverse Consumer Electronics (CE) information is essential to enhance and optimize user experiences, but CE Information Integration (CEII) faces challenges arising from differences in entity descriptions. In recent years, Large Language Models (LLMs) have emerged as valuable tools for analyzing heterogeneous CE data due to their deep contextual embeddings. However, different LLMs capture various nuances and complexity levels within the CE data, and none of them can ensure their effectiveness in all heterogeneous scenarios. To address this issue, this paper proposes an automatic LLM Construction for CEII, which can determine both explicit and implicit CE entity mappings. First, a hybrid Genetic Programming is developed to determine explicit entity mappings using a new individual representation, an innovative fitness function, and a Probability-based Incremental Learning algorithm. Then, a novel Rough Set based matching method is presented to efficiently induce implicit CE entity mappings, which uses the entity feature relevance metric and the dominance-based matching approach. The experiment tests the performance of our approach with the OAEI’s KG and common KG datasets, and the practical CE datasets in the smart home context. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the developed approach, which significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art entity matching methods. © 2025 IEEE.

Medical image classification based on contour processing attention mechanism

Medical diagnosis, often constrained by a doctor's experience and capabilities, remains a critical challenge. In recent years, intelligent algorithms have emerged as promising tools to assist in improving diagnostic accuracy. Among these, medical image classification plays a pivotal role in enhancing diagnostic precision. This paper proposes a flexible and concise medical image classification method based on a contour processing attention mechanism, designed to improve accuracy by emphasizing target regions during image processing. First, the training images undergo sequential grayscale and binarization processes, after which binary images are subjected to opening and closing operations to generate two distinct contour maps. These contour maps are then concatenated with the grayscale image along the channel dimension to produce a feature map, which is subsequently convolved. Next, pixel-wise multiplication is performed between the resulting image containing contour information and the original training image, thereby enhancing the contour and positional information of the target regions. The enhanced image is then fed into a residual network for classification training, forming a model based on the contour processing attention mechanism. Finally, classification experiments using three different types of medical image datasets were conducted. The experimental results demonstrate that the contour processing attention mechanism significantly improves the performance of residual networks in medical image classification, achieving the 0.0368 increase in classification accuracy, the 0.0413 improvement in the F1 score and the 0.0821 improvement in the Kappa score. Furthermore, the proposed model demonstrates versatility, with potential applications not only in medical image classification but also in other domains, such as remote sensing, urban landscape analysis, and transportation vehicle image classification. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Fuzzy Preference Completion with Ranked and Unranked Preferences

As for social choice, all alternatives are ranked by agents to form preferences as linear orders. However, in applications, sometimes some alternatives cannot be ranked, or it is unnecessary to rank them, which leads to unranked alternatives. Hence, without loss of generality, by dividing the set of alternatives into three ranked and unranked subsets, including top-k alternatives, intermediate-r alternatives, and last-l alternatives, the Mallows model on ranked and unranked preferences can be analyzed systematically. Technically, a repeated insertion model is adopted during sampling, and probability distributions are derived for ranked and unranked preferences of alternatives. Experimental results verify the accuracy of the probability distributions for different ranked and unranked preferences of alternatives. Furthermore, in order to solve the preference completion problem where agents have multiple partial rankings, a fuzzy preference completion algorithm, Fuzzy-Multi-Rankings, is proposed, which introduces a fuzzy ranking to complete the target agent’s preference in addition to the traditional nearest-neighbor-based methods. Based on the three ranked and unranked preferences, seven cases can be classified and analyzed for fuzzy preference completion. Experiments on the synthetic datasets and MovieLens dataset confirm the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed Fuzzy-Multi-Rankings algorithm and also verify the accuracy of the evaluated probability distributions for the proposed seven cases.
