In this paper, we propose a constructive interference precoding (CIP) enabled secure intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) scheme, lever-aging both the inter-user interference and artificial noise to boost the legitimate transmission of far user, while inducing the eavesdropper to decode the deceptive information. Based on this CIP-NOMA scheme, we minimize the transmit power under the perfect channel state information (CSI), subject to the CIP constraint for the far user and eavesdropper, while guaranteeing the quality of service and successive interference cancellation for the near user and the IRS unit modulus constraint. To handle this non-convex problem, an alternating optimization algorithm is proposed. Specifically, by alternately optimizing the precoding vectors at the base station and the IRS reflecting matrix via the successive convex approximation and the penalty-based algorithm, respectively, a reliable solution can be obtained. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can achieve better security performance with less energy consumption compared to the conventional NOMA.

AO-DETR: Anti-Overlapping DETR for X-Ray Prohibited Items Detection

Prohibited item detection in X-ray images is one of the most essential and highly effective methods widely employed in various security inspection scenarios. Considering the significant overlapping phenomenon in X-ray prohibited item images, we propose an Anti-Overlapping DETR (AO-DETR) based on one of the state-of-the-art general object detectors, DINO. Specifically, to address the feature coupling issue caused by overlapping phenomena, we introduce the Category-Specific One-to-One Assignment (CSA) strategy to constrain category-specific object queries in predicting prohibited items of fixed categories, which can enhance their ability to extract features specific to prohibited items of a particular category from the overlapping foreground-background features. To address the edge blurring problem caused by overlapping phenomena, we propose the Look Forward Densely (LFD) scheme, which improves the localization accuracy of reference boxes in mid-to-high-level decoder layers and enhances the ability to locate blurry edges of the final layer. Similar to DINO, our AO-DETR provides two different versions with distinct backbones, tailored to meet diverse application requirements. Extensive experiments on the PIXray and OPIXray datasets demonstrate that the proposed method surpasses the state-of-the-art object detectors, indicating its potential applications in the field of prohibited item detection. Phase noise is one of the fundamental impairments in radar, communications, and even the integration of sensing and communications, which is necessary to be suppressed to guarantee the system performance for high-order modulations. In order to obtain precise phase estimation or effectively track phase noise, many estimation algorithms rooted in digital signal processing operate under the premise that the variance of the phase noise is known. However, in practical applications, the receiver side can hardly get the premise knowledge of the phase noise variance. Thus, accurate estimation of the phase noise variance is significantly important for not only carrier recovery, but also performance monitoring. This paper proposes a maximum likelihood (ML)-based Wiener phase noise variance estimation scheme, based on the amplitude and phase-form of the noisy received signal model for M-ary phase-shift keying (MPSK) modulated systems. Specifically, by making full use of the explicit statistics of the received phase after raising to the Mth power, the closed-form expressions for ML estimation of the incremental phase noise and the Wiener phase noise variance are derived. The estimated mean square error is both theoretically and numerically analyzed to validate the unbiased ML estimator. Numerical results are given to verify the estimation accuracy in terms of varing signal-to-noise ratio and memory length. The proposed ML estimator is demonstrated to have precise estimation performance with low computational complexity. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper explores the stability problems of discrete-time linear time-invariant (LTI) systems subject to random time delays. We first develop a general mean-square small-gain stability condition for feedback systems containing structured stochastic multiplicative uncertainties. Subsequently, we apply this mean-square small-gain condition to certain LTI random delay systems, where delays exhibit random delay lengths. Necessary and sufficient mean-square stability criteria are derived. These criteria, applicable to systems with either single or multiple sources of random delays, typically involve computing the spectral radius of a constant matrix. This computation allows us to determine whether a system's state variance matrix converges asymptotically despite the presence of random delays.

When a human lands from a high drop, there is a high risk of serious injury to the lower limbs. On the other hand, cats can withstand jumps and falls from heights without being fatally wounded, largely due to their impact-resistant paw pads. The present study aimed to investigate the biomechanism of impact resistance in paw pads, propose an optimal hierarchical Voronoi structure, and apply the structure to bionic shoes to reduce the impact force of landing. The microstructure of cat paw pads was observed via tissue section staining, and a simulation model was reconstructed to verify and optimize the structural cushioning capacity. The bionic structures were changed and simulated to achieve an optimal composed structure. A bionic sole was 3D-printed, and its performance was evaluated via compression test and a jumping-landing experiment. The results show that the optimal configuration of the three layers should have a uniform distribution with 0.3-0.5 mm wall thickness, a 1:1-2 thickness ratio of epidermis and dermis, and 100-150 compartments. A bionic sole with an optimized structure can reduce the peak impact force and delay the peak arrival time. This study provides theoretical and technical support for effective protection against human lower limb landing injuries. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Segmentation of rat heart section images and infarct area quantization are essential components of infarct size measurement in processing data from animal experiments on ischemic heart disease. Previously, the task of measuring the infarct size of rat heart sections was performed manually by experienced researchers, which was very costly and time-consuming. In this paper, we propose a two-stage semi-supervised approach to solve the task of ischemic heart infarct size calculation in images of rat section images. The approach uses a semi-supervised semantic segmentation model and a semi-automated quantization algorithm to separate the differently stained regions of rat heart sections. We demonstrate the results of the approach on a rat heart section dataset, and experiments on this dataset emphasize the effectiveness of our approach compared to other methods.

A Joint Decision Strategy for Ticket Pricing and Stop Plan of High-Speed Railway: A Case Study

To improve the revenue management of high-speed railway (HSR), China Railway is reforming its ticket pricing strategy. In a market-oriented environment, the ticket price of HSR needs to be dynamically determined based on HSR’s seat supply and passenger demand. As the train stop plan can affect the passenger distribution on each train, it is necessary to determine the ticket pricing and the stop plan simultaneously. To maximize HSR’s revenue and minimize passengers’ travel time, a mixed-integer non-linear programming model that incorporates stop plan and seat allocation decision into HSR’s ticket pricing decision based on the Revenue Management theory is proposed. The price ceiling, train capacity and accessibility are considered in the model. A combined simulated annealing (CSA) algorithm is developed to solve practical problems. Finally, a case study based on the actual ticket data of Beijing-Shanghai HSR in China is conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The results show that the method can increase HSR’s revenue by 5.1% and reduce passengers’ travel time loss by 11.15%, without increasing transport capacity. © 2022, The Authors. EmT: A Novel Transformer for Generalized Cross-subject EEG Emotion Recognition

Integrating prior knowledge of neurophysiology into neural network architecture enhances the performance of emotion decoding. While numerous techniques emphasize learning spatial and short-term temporal patterns, there has been limited emphasis on capturing the vital long-term contextual information associated with emotional cognitive processes. In order to address this discrepancy, we introduce a novel transformer model called emotion transformer (EmT). EmT is designed to excel in both generalized cross-subject EEG emotion classification and regression tasks. In EmT, EEG signals are transformed into a temporal graph format, creating a sequence of EEG feature graphs using a temporal graph construction module (TGC). A novel residual multi-view pyramid GCN module (RMPG) is then proposed to learn dynamic graph representations for each EEG feature graph within the series, and the learned representations of each graph are fused into one token. Furthermore, we design a temporal contextual transformer module (TCT) with two types of token mixers to learn the temporal contextual information. Finally, the task-specific output module (TSO) generates the desired outputs. Experiments on four publicly available datasets show that EmT achieves higher results than the baseline methods for both EEG emotion classification and regression tasks. Many existing anomaly detection methods assume the availability of a large-scale normal dataset. But for many applications, limited by resources, removing all anomalous samples from a large unlabeled dataset is unrealistic, resulting in contaminated datasets. To detect anomalies accurately under such scenarios, from the probabilistic perspective, the key question becomes how to learn the normal-data distribution from a contaminated dataset. To this end, we propose to collect two additional small datasets that are comprised of partially-observed normal and anomaly samples, and then use them to help learn the distribution under an adversarial learning scheme. We prove that under some mild conditions, the proposed method is able to learn the correct normal-data distribution. Then, we consider the overfitting issue caused by the small size of the two additional datasets, and a correctness-guaranteed flipping mechanism is further developed to alleviate it. Theoretical results under incomplete observed anomaly types are also presented. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method outperforms representative baselines when detecting anomalies under contaminated datasets.

Enhanced Adsorption of Copper Citrate Complex by Ferromanganese Oxides-Biochar from Water: Performance and Mechanism

Due to the stable structure of complex metals, their removal is more challenging compared to metal ions. Additionally, the removal mechanism of metal complexes is closely related to their structure. This study developed a low-cost and economically efficient ferromanganese oxide-modified biochar and explored the preparation conditions in detail. The surface of ferromanganese oxide-modified biochar was uniformly loaded with 100 nm nanoparticles, mainly comprising Mn3O4 and (FeO)0.099(MnO)0.901, and exhibited excellent copper citrate (CuCA) adsorption capacity. The removal rate of CuCA at an initial concentration of 10 mg/L by 1 g/L modified biochar reached 99.5% for Cu and 87.7% for TOC, with a copper adsorption capacity of 3.79 mg/L. The mechanism of using modified biochar to remove CuCA includes chemical adsorption at the bimetallic oxide active sites and oxygen-containing functional groups on the surface of the biochar, as well as physical adsorption due to biochar’s porous structure and other effects. The modified biochar shows good performance and stability in wide pH range and certain coexisting ions. Ferromanganese oxide-modified biochar own the advantage of efficient, economical and easy to preparation, which has significant potential for development in the removal of metal complexes in water. © 2024, The Authors.
