We investigate the Misty structure with respect to the security notion of sequential indifferentiability of Mandal et al. (TCC 2012). As our main result, we prove sequential indifferentiability for 7-round Misty structures using seven independent random permutations in the rounds. We also prove insecurity for 5 rounds by exhibiting an attack. Our main result implies known-key security of 7 rounds in the sense of correlation intractability, providing the first known-key security results on Misty structures to our knowledge. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

A NONPARAMETRIC ROBUST OPTIMIZATION APPROACH FOR CHANCE-CONSTRAINED KNAPSACK PROBLEM

A chance-constrained knapsack problem (CCKP) is a knapsack problem restricted by a chance constraint, which ensures that the total capacity constraint under uncertain volume can be violated only up to a given probability threshold. CCKP is challenging to solve due to its combinatorial nature and the involvement of its chance constraint. Existing solution methods for CCKP with tractability guarantees mainly focus on two approaches: (1) a full-information approach (stochastic programming) that assumes the uncertain volume follows certain distributions, such as normal or empirical distribution;(2) a partial-information approach (robust optimization) that adopts specific statistics of the unknown distribution, such as the mean and variance. The existing full-information approach lacks robustness under limited samples due to its strong assumption;the existing partial-information approach can be further improved, as the uncertainty set or distributional ambiguity set can be ameliorated. With these concerns in mind, we propose a nonparametric robust approach for CCKP by involving a novel nonparametric statistic to form a new distributional ambiguity set. Furthermore, we develop an upper bound on the violation probability of the chance constraint under the distributional ambiguity set to approximate CCKP by a deterministic robust counterpart. In terms of solution methodology, we decompose the deterministic robust counterpart into cardinality-constrained knapsack problems, which can be efficiently solved by the proposed dynamic programming algorithm. Computational results show that our proposed solution methods produce better solutions to CCKP compared with existing approaches. © 2025 Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

Distributed predefined-time robust adaptive control design for attitude consensus of multiple spacecraft

This article investigates the distributed predefined-time attitude consensus of multiple rigid spacecraft under inertia uncertainties and external perturbations over directed communication topology. First, a distributed predefined-time observer is constructed for each follower spacecraft to estimate the virtual leader's attitude, velocity, and acceleration. Then, based on the recovered information, a predefined-time nonsingular terminal sliding mode (NTSM) controller is developed for each follower spacecraft to fulfill the local attitude and velocity tracking. The predefined-time NTSM controller is strongly robust against uncertainties and perturbations but owns the undesirable chattering phenomena. To overcome such problem, an adaptive version of the predefined-time NTSM controller is carried out by incorporating with the parametric adaptation mechanism to identify the total disturbance. In this manner, the predefined-time adaptive NTSM controller has no chattering phenomenon and can maintain the high tracking accuracy simultaneously. Lastly, comparative simulations verify and highlight the main results. © 2025 COSPAR

An expansion of Internet of Things (IoTs) has led to significant challenges in wireless data harvesting, dissemination, and energy management due to the massive volumes of data generated by IoT devices. These challenges are exacerbated by data redundancy arising from spatial and temporal correlations. To address these issues, this paper proposes a novel data-driven collaborative beamforming (CB)-based communication framework for IoT networks. Specifically, the framework integrates CB with an overlap-based multi-hop routing protocol (OMRP) to enhance data transmission efficiency while mitigating energy consumption and addressing hot spot issues in remotely deployed IoT networks. Based on the data aggregation to a specific node by OMRP, we formulate a node selection problem for the CB stage, with the objective of optimizing uplink transmission energy consumption. Given the complexity of the problem, we introduce a softmax-based proximal policy optimization with long-short-term memory (SoftPPO-LSTM) algorithm to intelligently select CB nodes for improving transmission efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed OMRP improves network lifetime by 17% compared to benchmark routing protocols, while the SoftPPO-LSTM method for CB node selection achieves an 8.3% increase in throughput over benchmark algorithms. Network topology planning is an essential multi-phase process to build and jointly optimize the multi-layer network topologies in wide-area networks (WANs). Most existing practices target single-phase/layer planning, and are incapable of satisfying all rigorous topological structure constraints (e.g., dual-homing rings) defined by network standards and operators, especially in large-scale networks. These significantly limit their usability and performance in production networks. We consider a general topology planning problem with typical structure constraints over three essential phases (greenfield, reconfiguration, and site expansion) and topological layers (optical, IP, and routing topologies). We present, T3Planner, a novel practical solver to this problem in production. Specifically, we develop a structure-driven encoder based on graph neural network (GNN) for concise structure encoding, and design a new learning framework with optical-centric layer compression/reconstruction and rule-aided reinforcement learning (RL) for fast convergence and high performance. Extensive experiments on nine real topologies demonstrate that T3Planner scales to large optical networks with hundreds of sites, saves 46.6% cost, and supports $3.12\times $ more demand when compared to related existing approaches.

OSE: On-Site State of Health Estimation for Li-ion Battery using Real-Time Field data

On-site lithium-ion battery state of health (SoH) estimation is of crucial importance for reliable operations of electric vehicles (EVs). Yet, due to the low-quality of unlabeled real-time field data, diverse operating environments of in-service EVs, and limited computational capability of onboard devices, existing techniques established on data from well-controlled experimental environments are not practical for real world EVs' SoH estimation. Accurate and rapid SoH estimation based on field data of in-service EVs still remains quite challenging. To tackle this challenge, we present an on-site SoH estimation (OSE) method using in-service EV field data through a new knowledge embedded deep transfer learning (DTL) model. Initially, an universal data preprocessing approach integrating mechanism knowledge is designed to process low-quality data under diverse operating environments. Then, we develop a domain adaptive hybrid deep neural network (DAHDNN) model suitable for unlabeled field data, which can be deployed via edge cloud collaborative framework to meet actual computational capability. We demonstrate the superiority of our method across four real datasets, where, OSE's estimation error is decreased by up to 78.5% compared with the state-of-the-art methods. The results indicate that the proposed method has good generalizability and reliability for SoH estimation on real-time field data. © 2015 IEEE.

MEFA-Net: A mask enhanced feature aggregation network for polyp segmentation

Accurate polyp segmentation is crucial for early diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. This is a challenging task for three main reasons: (i) the problem of model overfitting and weak generalization due to the multi-center distribution of data;(ii) the problem of interclass ambiguity caused by motion blur and overexposure to endoscopic light;and (iii) the problem of intraclass inconsistency caused by the variety of morphologies and sizes of the same type of polyps. To address these challenges, we propose a new high-precision polyp segmentation framework, MEFA-Net, which consists of three modules, including the plug-and-play Mask Enhancement Module (MEG), Separable Path Attention Enhancement Module (SPAE), and Dynamic Global Attention Pool Module (DGAP). Specifically, firstly, the MEG module regionally masks the high-energy regions of the environment and polyps through a mask, which guides the model to rely on only a small amount of information to distinguish between polyps and background features, avoiding the model from overfitting the environmental information, and improving the robustness of the model. At the same time, this module can effectively counteract the "dark corner phenomenon" in the dataset and further improve the generalization performance of the model. Next, the SPAE module can effectively alleviate the inter-class fuzzy problem by strengthening the feature expression. Then, the DGAP module solves the intra-class inconsistency problem by extracting the invariance of scale, shape and position. Finally, we propose a new evaluation metric, MultiColoScore, for comprehensively evaluating the segmentation performance of the model on five datasets with different domains. We evaluated the new method quantitatively and qualitatively on five datasets using four metrics. Experimental results show that MEFA-Net significantly improves the accuracy of polyp segmentation and outperforms current state-of-the-art algorithms. Code posted on https://***/

An Area Optimization Approach for Large-Scale RM-TB Dual Logic Circuits Based on a Multitasking Optimization Algorithm

Logic synthesis is a crucial step in integrated circuit design, and area optimization is an indispensable part of this process. However, the area optimization problem for large-scale Fixed Polarity Reed-Muller (FPRM) circuits is an NP-hard problem. To address this problem, we divide Boolean circuits into small-scale circuits based on the idea of divide-and-conquer using the proposed grouping decomposition mechanism. Each small-scale Boolean circuit is transformed into an FPRM circuit by a polarity transformation algorithm. To ensure the circuit’s functionality remains unaffected, we integrate FPRM circuits into an FPRM and Boolean (RM-TB) dual logic circuit based on the proposed gate-level integration. However, the area optimization problem of RM-TB dual logic circuits is a multi-task, high-dimensional, and multi-extremal combinatorial optimization problem. Therefore, we propose a Multipopulation Multitasking Optimization Algorithm (MMuOA) that integrates self-evolution with a multitasking equilibrium optimizer and cross-task evolution through knowledge sharing and transfer. This forms a dynamic optimization framework for simultaneously searching for the optimal polarity corresponding to the minimal area of RM-TB dual logic circuits. Moreover, we propose an Area Optimization Approach (AOA) for an RM-TB dual logic circuit with the minimum area using the MMuOA. Experimental results based on the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina (MCNC) Benchmark test circuits demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the AOA compared to the state-of-the-art area optimization approach. © 1968-2012 IEEE.

For emerging respiratory infectious diseases like COVID-19, non-pharmaceutical interventions such as isolation are crucial for controlling the spread. From the perspective of network transmission, non-pharmaceutical interventions like isolation alter the degree distribution and other topological structures of the network, thereby controlling the spread of the infectious disease. In this paper, we establish a SEIR mean-field propagation dynamics model for the synchronous evolution of dynamic networks caused by propagation and tracing isolation. We employ the reducing-dimension method to convert the mean-field model in networks into an equivalent and simpler low-dimension model, and then calculate the exact expression of the final size. In addition, we get the differential equations of the degree distribution over time in dynamic networks under tracing isolation and the relationships between the first and second moment of the dynamic network. While the degree of a node remains constant regardless of its state in many previous studies, this paper takes into account that the degree of each node changes over time whatever its state under the disease spread and intervention measures. © 2025 The Authors
