Q-learning is an effective model-free reinforcement learning algorithm. However, Q-learning is centralized and competent only for single agent learning but not multi-agent learning because in later case the size of state-action space is huge and will grow exponentially with the number of agents increasing. In the paper we present a distributed Q-learning algorithm to solving this problem. In our algorithm, the tasks of learning optimal action policy are distributed to each agent in team but not a central agent. In order to reduce the size of action-state space of multi-agent team we introduce a state-action space sharing strategy of agent team, through which one agent in team can use the states already explored by other agents before and need not take time to explore these states again. Additionally, our algorithm has the ability to allocate sub-goals dynamically among agents according to environment changing, which can make agent team coordinate more efficiently. Experiments show the efficiency of our algorithm when it is applied to the benchmark problem of predator-prey pursuit game, also called pursuit game, in which a team of predators coordinate to capture a prey.

CP-networks provide a convenient means for expressing preferences in reasoning, but it is not good at handling preferences with hard constraints. The paper proposes a new approach, which transforms the CP-network with hard constraints into one constraint hierarchy, therefore one could process preferences and constraints in a single formalism with fruitful constraint solving algorithms. Furthermore, illustrates it with some examples, proves that the transformation preserves the ceteris paribus property and presents some complexity results. Finally compares it with related work and concludes the paper.

Network based data management is the backup/restore mechanism used in a data storage center. This paper presents a new network based data management-NDMP-Plus, a revision of network data management protocol. Components and the working mechanism of the NDMP-Plus architecture are first discussed. Two new techniques in NDMP-Plus-virtual storage layer (VSL) and negotiation mechanism are then studied. VSL is a crucial component to achieve flexibility, and the negotiation mechanism is a key to improve performance. Furthermore, experiments are carried out to evaluate the performance of NDMP-Plus. The result suggests that NDMP-Plus has stronger flexibility and better performance than NDMP.

Cheng and Church algorithm is an important approach in biclustering algorithms. In this paper, the process of the extended space in the second stage of Cheng and Church algorithm is improved and the selections of two important parameters are discussed. The results of the improved algorithm used in the gene expression spectrum analysis show that, compared with Cheng and Church algorithm, the quality of clustering results is enhanced obviously, the mining expression models are better, and the data possess a strong consistency with fluctuation on the condition while the computational time does not increase significantly.

Traditional tape back-up systems have begun to wear out their welcomes in some businesses, which are turning to the virtual tape technologies. The virtual tape technologies combine the traditional backup methodology with the disk drive technology to create a disk-based library that acts as a tape library. In concert with the traditional backup software from vendors, the virtual tape libraries write data to a disk in current tape formats. Because the disk is used rather than tape, data can be backed up at channel speeds many times faster than with a tape and also recovered more quickly. This paper provided a new hybrid storage appliance: the RAID-tape-library, which makes the customary backup software behave performance and other features of the tape drives. And this hybrid storage device is not like the traditional software-based or hardware-based virtual tape library (VTL), which separates the tape library and the disk, our implementation is as an independent appliance that supports the backup application and the ultra SCSI attachments. It is similar to a disk device, but it does have abundance storage capacity like a tape library. With this hybrid device, the time of mount, position and dismount tapes is overlapped by effectual data transport in a RAID. The result of simulation shows the hybrid storage device has preferable performance.

Traditional storage systems, such as NAS, SAN, are largely unaware of the users and applications actually using the storage, because block-based storage devices manage opaque data blocks. But, with OBSS (object-based storage system), the attributes and methods among the storage devices can be adopted in the storage system, the data can be distributed on some of the storage devices and organized better to anticipate users demand. In this paper, the scalability of object storage (including object attributes, object methods and OBSS) is studied. And a self-managing approach, denoted adaptive policy trigger mechanism (APTM), is presented. APTM borrows proven machine learning techniques and takes the perspective scalable object storage. The implementation reveals that APTM is the embodiment of the idea about smart storage device and facilitates to self-manage mass storage system.
