Distinguishing the manifestations of pulmonary nodules poses a significant challenge in the medical field, demanding the expertise of experienced radiologists. This complexity results in the high cost and inadequacy of sample labeling. In response, this study introduces a reinforcement learning approach, denoted as TriCaps-RL, for the classification of pulmonary nodules based on CT signs. This approach initially employs the Q-value loss to train a single CapsNet. When the performance of the CapsNet plateaus and further enhancement becomes challenging, the loss function is progressively replaced by a triplet metric to augment performance. Consequently, a more nuanced differentiation among various types of pulmonary nodules is achieved. The proposed method can improve its performance through interactions with radiologists during their CT image reading process, thereby mitigating the shortage of radiologists and addressing the time-consuming issue of training sample labeling in medical image research. This paper delves into the fine-grained classification of pulmonary nodules using deep reinforcement learning based on CT imaging signs. In comparison to previous studies that primarily concentrate on the benign/malignant classification of lung nodules, this fine-grained classification of nodules founded on CT imaging signs proves to be more valuable for medical practitioners in making accurate diagnostic decisions. © 2024, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information CO LTD. This paper investigates pervasiveness effect of information technology on the technological progress of logistics in China. Using panel data of 30-regions in China during 2008 to 2020, we propose both static and dynamic panel data models, and find both resource level and spreading rate of information technology have negative influences on technological progress of logistics. The resource level of information technology has a short-term effect on technological progress of logistics, whereas the spreading rate of information technology has a long-term effect. Moreover, the result reveals that the discordant problem of information construction of logistics between resource level and spreading rate cause the negative influence of information technology.

With the high mortality rate for the cases of malignant tumors, the discovery and early treatment of cancer is critical to improving the 5-year survival rate of cancer. The biggest challenge in control and prevention is how to detect tumors as early as possible, so that the most effective means can be used for treatment. With the help of the WOS database, researchers found that liquid biopsy, genetic material/protein expression and computer imaging play an important role in cancer detection. Through analysis of the history and current status of cancer detection technology development, this paper also aims to provide guidance for the clinical practice of current cancer screening and provide inspiration for future technological development. © 2019 Association for Computing Machinery.

An incremental method of feature selection based on mutual information, called incremental Max-Relevance, and Min-Redundancy (I-mRMR), is presented. I-mRMR is an incremental version of Max-Relevance, and Min-Redundancy feature selection (mRMR), which is used to handle streaming data or large-scale data. First, Incremental key Instance Set is proposed which composes of the non-distinguished instances by the historical selected features. Second, an incremental feature selection algorithm is designed in which the incremental key instance set, replacing of all the seen instances so far, is used in the process of adding representative features. Since the Incremental key Instance Set is far less than the whole instances, the incremental feature selection by using this key set avoids redundant computation and save computation time and space. Finally, the experimental results show that I-mRMR could significantly or even dramatically reduce the time of feature selection with an acceptable classification accuracy. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In recent years, Lake Kivu, which has high levels of methane and carbon dioxide in Rwanda, has become a danger due to the release of toxins. The research process is that after the working cycle of the first starter ends, the work of the exhaust gas continues to generate heat, and then, the second heat engine can directly extract energy from the exhaust gas thermal energy. The engine can use different working gases. By transmitting multiple workflows, the system overall efficiency can be increased to 50–60%. The overall efficiency of a simple cycle can reach 34%, while the synthetic cycle can be as high as 64%. The theoretical efficiency of Carnot cycle reaches more than 84%. Similar to single-cycle thermal energy, synthetic cycles can be developed for industry and can provide lower temperature thermal energy in specific fields and other applications. This electricity from offshore power plants is new. It will solve the power problem in Rwanda and become a new energy source worldwide. However, the purpose of this study was to design for a cycle gas turbine facility that uses a power plant of combined cycle gas turbine system and the Internet of Things to convert chemical energy in methane gas into electricity throughout the process. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Collaborative Metric Learning (CML) has recently emerged as a popular method in recommendation systems (RS), closing the gap between metric learning and Collaborative Filtering. Following the convention of RS, existing methods exploit unique user representation in their model design. This paper focuses on a challenging scenario where a user has multiple categories of interests. Under this setting, we argue that the unique user representation might induce preference bias, especially when the item category distribution is imbalanced. To address this issue, we propose a novel method called Diversity-Promoting Collaborative Metric Learning (DPCML), with the hope of considering the commonly ignored minority interest of the user. The key idea behind DPCML is to include a multiple set of representations for each user in the system. Based on this embedding paradigm, user preference toward an item is aggregated from different embeddings by taking the minimum item-user distance among the user embedding set. Furthermore, we observe that the diversity of the embeddings for the same user also plays an essential role in the model. To this end, we propose a Diversity Control Regularization Scheme (DCRS) to accommodate the multi-vector representation strategy better. Theoretically, we show that DPCML could generalize well to unseen test data by tackling the challenge of the annoying operation that comes from the minimum value. Experiments over a range of benchmark datasets speak to the efficacy of DPCML.

Robust and Fast Measure of Information via Low-rank Representation

The matrix-based Rényi’s entropy allows us to directly quantify information measures from given data, without explicit estimation of the underlying probability distribution. This intriguing property makes it widely applied in statistical inference and machine learning tasks. However, this information theoretical quantity is not robust against noise in the data, and is computationally prohibitive in large-scale applications. To address these issues, we propose a novel measure of information, termed low-rank matrix-based Rényi’s entropy, based on low-rank representations of infinitely divisible kernel matrices. The proposed entropy functional inherits the specialty of of the original definition to directly quantify information from data, but enjoys additional advantages including robustness and effective calculation. Specifically, our low-rank variant is more sensitive to informative perturbations induced by changes in underlying distributions, while being insensitive to uninformative ones caused by noises. Moreover, low-rank Rényi’s entropy can be efficiently approximated by random projection and Lanczos iteration techniques, reducing the overall complexity from O(n3) to O(n2s) or even O(ns2), where n is the number of data samples and s n. We conduct large-scale experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of this new information measure, demonstrating superior results compared to matrix-based Rényi’s entropy in terms of both performance and computational efficiency. Semi-supervised classification on data streams with recurring concept drift and concept evolution

Mining non-stationary stream is a challenging task due to its unique property of infinite length and dynamic characteristics let alone the issues of concept drift, concept evolution and limited labeled data. Although more attention has been attracted on the issues of concept drift and evolution in data streams, however, most of existing methods are supervised in nature, which probably result in a worse classification performance and lower efficiency in the case with scarcity of labeled data. Thus, in this paper, we proposed a semi-supervised framework with recurring concept drift and novel class detection called ESCR, which aims to detect recurring concept drift and concept evolution in data streams with partially labeled data. It is firstly built on an ensemble model consisted of several clustering-based classifiers. In terms of this framework, we adopt Jensen–Shannon divergence based change detection technique on classifier confidence score instead of classification error rate to detect recurring concept drifts. Meanwhile, we take concept evolution into consideration by monitoring the outliers with strong cohesion. Moreover, we further improve the execution efficiency of our framework by exploiting the recursive function and dynamic programming. Finally, extensive experiments conducted on both benchmark and synthetic data sets demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed semi-supervised framework in the handling of data streams with recurring concept drifts and concept evolution, as compared to several well-known semi-supervised data stream classification methods. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.

Relation extraction is an important information extraction task in many Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications, such as automatic knowledge graph construction, question answering, sentiment analysis, etc. However, relation extraction suffers from inappropriate associations between entities when the background knowledge of corpus is insufficiency. Despite the preprocessed external word vector bases can ease this problem, how to find a single word vector base as domain knowledge that contains all the required knowledge features is a huge challenge, and relation extraction with background knowledge is still open to further optimization. To address this problem, in this paper, we propose Relation Extraction method with Proactive Domain Adaptation Strategy (REPDAS for short) to introduce more knowledge features from different knowledge bases. More specifically, firstly, a convolutional network with a parameter-sharing layer is introduced for relation extraction, and word seeds that are important to relational feature exploitation are proactively picked by an attention mechanism during training. Secondly, the proactively-chosen word seeds and the previous parameter-sharing layer are utilized to establish a map between different domains. Our proposed method selectively avails both background knowledge and contextual features for relation extraction by incorporating the convolutional neural network with the proactively domain adaptation strategy. Experiments show that our method effectively enhances the performance of relation extraction compared with other baselines. © 2020 IEEE.

Stacked convolutional sparse auto-encoders for representation learning

Deep learning seeks to achieve excellent performance for representation learning in image datasets. However, supervised deep learning models such as convolutional neural networks require a large number of labeled image data, which is intractable in applications, while unsupervised deep learning models like stacked denoising auto-encoder cannot employ label information. Meanwhile, the redundancy of image data incurs performance degradation on representation learning for aforementioned models. To address these problems, we propose a semi-supervised deep learning framework called stacked convolutional sparse auto-encoder, which can learn robust and sparse representations from image data with fewer labeled data records. More specifically, the framework is constructed by stacking layers. In each layer, higher layer feature representations are generated by features of lower layers in a convolutional way with kernels learned by a sparse auto-encoder. Meanwhile, to solve the data redundance problem, the algorithm of Reconstruction Independent Component Analysis is designed to train on patches for sphering the input data. The label information is encoded using a Softmax Regression model for semi-supervised learning. With this framework, higher level representations are learned by layers mapping from image data. It can boost the performance of the base subsequent classifiers such as support vector machines. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior classification performance of our framework compared to several state-of-the-art representation learning methods. © 2021 ACM.
