In adversarial environment such as intrusion detection and spam filtering, the adversary-intruder or spam advertiser may attempt to produce contaminate training instance and manipulate the learning of classifier. In order to keep good classification performance, many robuster learning methods have been proposed to deal with the adversarial attack. Support Vector Machines(SVMs) is a kind of successful approach in the adversarial classification tasks and the investigation of robust SVMs is very popular. However, in many real application, the data including stain instance is coming dynamically. Batch learning which needs retraining when encountering new samples, will consume more computing resources. In this paper, we propose a robust Lagrangian support vector machine (RLSVM) with modified kernel matrix and explore the online learning algorithm on it. The experimental results show the robustness of RLSVM against label noise produced by adversaries under the online adversarial environment.

The existing word representation methods mostly limit their information source to word co-occurrence statistics. In this paper, we introduce ngrams into four representation methods: SGNS, GloVe, PPMI matrix, and its SVD factorization. Comprehensive experiments are conducted on word analogy and similarity tasks. The results show that improved word representations are learned from ngram co-occurrence statistics. We also demonstrate that the trained ngram representations are useful in many aspects such as finding antonyms and collocations. Besides, a novel approach of building co-occurrence matrix is proposed to alleviate the hardware burdens brought by ngrams. © 2017 Association for Computational Linguistics.

The multilingual focused crawler system combines web content extraction with path configuration to make use of their advantages and achieve automatic collection of network information in multiple languages. Firstly, system selects foreign language keywords according to crawling webpage language and Chinese keywords, and uses initial link to obtain webpage information. Then, it uses path configuration information or web content extraction algorithm based on the distribution line block to get webpage content, and adopts rules or configuration information to acquire new links, published time and title. Next, keywords are used to filter irrelevant information. Finally, results are presented as a list. When users use focused crawler system, the webpage path information can be configured or not according to requirements, and the collected network resources can also be searched or filtered.

Background: Decades of steady improvements in life expectancy in Europe slowed down from around 2011, well before the COVID-19 pandemic, for reasons which remain disputed. We aimed to assess how changes in risk factors and cause-specific death rates in different European countries related to changes in life expectancy in those countries before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We used data and methods from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 to compare changes in life expectancy at birth, causes of death, and population exposure to risk factors in 16 European Economic Area countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden) and the four UK nations (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales) for three time periods: 1990–2011, 2011–19, and 2019–21. Changes in life expectancy and causes of death were estimated with an established life expectancy cause-specific decomposition method, and compared with summary exposure values of risk factors for the major causes of death influencing life expectancy. Findings: All countries showed mean annual improvements in life expectancy in both 1990–2011 (overall mean 0·23 years [95% uncertainty interval [UI] 0·23 to 0·24]) and 2011–19 (overall mean 0·15 years [0·13 to 0·16]). The rate of improvement was lower in 2011–19 than in 1990–2011 in all countries except for Norway, where the mean annual increase in life expectancy rose from 0·21 years (95% UI 0·20 to 0·22) in 1990–2011 to 0·23 years (0·21 to 0·26) in 2011–19 (difference of 0·03 years). In other countries, the difference in mean annual improvement between these periods ranged from –0·01 years in Iceland (0·19 years [95% UI 0·16 to 0·21] vs 0·18 years [0·09 to 0·26]), to –0·18 years in England (0·25 years [0·24 to 0·25] vs 0·07 years [0·06 to 0·08]). Set similarity join is an essential operation in big data analytics, e.g., data integration and data cleaning, that finds similar pairs from two collections of sets. To cope with the increasing scale of the data, distributed algorithms are called for to support large-scale set similarity joins. Multiple techniques have been proposed to perform similarity joins using MapReduce in recent years. These techniques, however, usually produce huge amounts of duplicates in order to perform parallel processing successfully as MapReduce is a shared-nothing framework. The large number of duplicates incurs on both large shuffle cost and unnecessary computation cost, which significantly decrease the performance. Moreover, these approaches do not provide a load balancing guarantee, which results in a skewness problem and negatively affects the scalability properties of these techniques. To address these problems, in this paper, we propose a duplicate free framework, called FS-Join, to perform set similarity joins efficiently by utilizing an innovative vertical partitioning technique. FS-Join employs three powerful filtering methods to prune dissimilar string pairs without computing their similarity scores. To further improve the performance and scalability, FS-Join integrates horizontal partitioning. Experimental results on three real datasets show that FS-Join outperforms the state-of-Theart methods by one order of magnitude on average, which demonstrates the good scalability and performance qualities of the proposed technique. © 2017 IEEE.

In order to simultaneous nondestructive on-line inspect edible quality and internal defect of apple, this work presents the development of an on-line detection prototype system using near infrared transmittance technology as a novel approach for on-line detect quality attributes without sample destructiveness. The on-line detection system was designed and developed to improve spectra signal quality, lower heat damage, reduce mechanical damage. Special detection software was developed for real-time inspection based on multithread programming technology. This prototype on-line system needed 80 ms capture transmittance spectra of an apple. Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) model was developed to identify internal defects samples. The results obtained from LDA models, in validation, gave a positive predictive value of classification about 90.14%. Moreover, established model strategy is first selection characteristic spectral ranges by synergy interval partial least squares (siPLS), then on the extraction of feature wavelength by stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR). Calibration models were performed applying siPLS-SMLR algorithm to predict the soluble solid content (SSC) in apple. Results of the siPLS-SMLR model using 9 selected feature wavelengths were correlation coefficient (R) of 0.8764 and root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) of 0.8649 Brix, respectively.. The results showed that the e on-line detection prototype based on NIR transmittance technique was feasible to simultaneous inspect the edible quality and internal defect of apple. The present research provides the foundation for the future development of an automatic system based on transmittance spectroscopy which is extremely important from the economic point of view.

Intelligent Manufacturing has attracted global and continuous attention recent years, with more and more intelligent devices and systems applied in production. In this paper, we take China’s manufacturing listed firms to investigate the productivity difference between intelligent and general manufacturing firms. By the Cobb-Douglas production function, we built a Coefficient-varying Model and used Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR) to estimate the time-varying trend of productivity from 2011 to 2017. The empirical results show that “Intelligent Manufacturing” has obviously promoted the Labor factor utilization efficiency and the Total Factor Productivity (TFP) through the advances in technology. But it doesn’t have universally enhancing effect of all industries. The impact of “Intelligent Manufacturing” still remains to be observed overtime.

The number of word embedding models is growing every year. Most of them are based on the co-occurrence information of words and their contexts. However, it is still an open question what is the best definition of context. We provide a systematical investigation of 4 different syntactic context types and context representations for learning word embeddings. Comprehensive experiments are conducted to evaluate their effectiveness on 6 extrinsic and intrinsic tasks. We hope that this paper, along with the published code, would be helpful for choosing the best context type and representation for a given task. © 2017 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Deep Text Classification Can be Fooled

In this paper, we present an effective method to craft text adversarial samples, revealing one important yet underestimated fact that DNN-based text classifiers are also prone to adversarial sample attack. Specifically, confronted with different adversarial scenarios, the text items that are important for classification are identified by computing the cost gradients of the input (white-box attack) or generating a series of occluded test samples (black-box attack). Based on these items, we design three perturbation strategies, namely insertion, modification, and removal, to generate adversarial samples. The experiment results show that the adversarial samples generated by our method can successfully fool both state-of-the-art character-level and word-level DNN-based text classifiers. The adversarial samples can be perturbed to any desirable classes without compromising their utilities. At the same time, the introduced perturbation is difficult to be perceived. Fuzzy clustering analysis is an effective method to describe the uncertainty relationship between data objects and clusters. However, fuzzy clustering results will become complex and high-dimensional membership degree matrixes when they contain a large number of data points and multiple clusters. In this paper, we propose a Radviz-based interactive visualization to help users understand fuzzy clustering results. Firstly, we utilize the projection mechanism of Radviz to map the membership degree matrixes onto planar and radial pictures, in which data points with low membership uncertainty are located near Radviz circumference, while the others are scattered in the center of Radviz circle. To provide an informative interactive visualization, we then improve traditional Radviz visualization in many aspects, including implementing an optimal and uneven placement of dimension anchors by using the Prim algorithm, designing visual codings of data points and dimension arcs to express statistical information, combining chord diagram to depict the sharing relationship between clusters, and offering a set of interactions to support deeper exploration. Finally, we use a case study to illustrate the effectiveness and usefulness of our visualization. © 2017 Association for Computing Machinery.
