A large percentage of queries issued to search engines are broad or ambiguous. Search result diversification aims to solve this problem, by returning diverse results that can fulfill as many different information needs as possible. Most existing intent-aware search result diversification algorithms formulate user intents for a query as a flat list of subtopics. In this paper, we introduce a new hierarchical structure to represent user intents and propose two general hierarchical diversification models to leverage hierarchical intents. Experimental results show that our hierarchical diversification models outperform state-of-the-art diversification methods that use traditional flat subtopics. © 2015 ACM.

VID Join： Mapping Trajectories to Points of Interest to Support Location-Based Services

Variable influence duration （VID） join is a novel spatio-temporal join operation between a set T of trajectories and a set P of spatial points. Here, trajectories are traveling histories of moving objects （e.g., travelers）, and spatial points are points of interest （POIs, e.g., restaurants）. VID join returns all pairs of （τs, p） if τs is spatially close to p for a long period of time, where τs is a segment of trajectory τ ∈ T and p ∈ P. Each returned （τs, p） implies that the moving object associated with τs stayed at p （e.g., having dinner at a restaurant）. Such information is useful in many aspects, such as targeted advertising, social security, and social activity analysis. The concepts of influence and influence duration are introduced to measure the spatial closeness between τ and p, and the time spanned, respectively. Compared to the conventional spatio-temporal join, the VID join is more challenging since the join condition varies for different POIs, and the additional temporal requirement cannot be indexed effectively. To process the VID join e？ciently, three algorithms are developed and several optimization techniques are applied, including spatial duplication reuse and time duration based pruning. The performance of the developed algorithms is verified by extensive experiments on real spatial data.

Background: The sustainable development goals (SDGs) aim to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. Understanding the current state of the HIV epidemic and its change over time is essential to this effort. This study assesses the current sex-specific HIV burden in 204 countries and territories and measures progress in the control of the epidemic. Methods: To estimate age-specific and sex-specific trends in 48 of 204 countries, we extended the Estimation and Projection Package Age-Sex Model to also implement the spectrum paediatric model. We used this model in cases where age and sex specific HIV-seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care-clinic sentinel surveillance data were available. For the remaining 156 of 204 locations, we developed a cohort-incidence bias adjustment to derive incidence as a function of cause-of-death data from vital registration systems. The incidence was input to a custom Spectrum model. To assess progress, we measured the percentage change in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 (threshold >75% decline), the ratio of incident cases to number of people living with HIV (incidence-to-prevalence ratio threshold <0·03), and the ratio of incident cases to deaths (incidence-to-mortality ratio threshold <1·0). Findings: In 2019, there were 36·8 million (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 35·1–38·9) people living with HIV worldwide. There were 0·84 males (95% UI 0·78–0·91) per female living with HIV in 2019, 0·99 male infections (0·91–1·10) for every female infection, and 1·02 male deaths (0·95–1·10) per female death. Global progress in incident cases and deaths between 2010 and 2019 was driven by sub-Saharan Africa (with a 28·52% decrease in incident cases, 95% UI 19·58–35·43, and a 39·66% decrease in deaths, 36·49–42·36). Elsewhere, the incidence remained stable or increased, whereas deaths generally decreased. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a kind of imaging modality, which offers clearer images of soft tissues than computed tomography (CT). It is especially suitable for brain disease detection. It is beneficial to detect diseases automatically and accurately. We proposed a pathological brain detection method based on brain MR images and online sequential extreme learning machine. First, seven wavelet entropies (WE) were extracted from each brain MR image to form the feature vector. Then, an online sequential extreme learning machine (OS-ELM) was trained to differentiate pathological brains from the healthy controls. The experiment results over 132 brain MRIs showed that the proposed approach achieved a sensitivity of 93.51%, a specificity of 92.22%, and an overall accuracy of 93.33%, which suggested that our method is effective.

Wireless sensor network is an important part of the Internet of Things. Preservation of privacy and integrity in wireless sensor networks is extremely urgent and challenging. To address this problem, we propose PPKN, an efficient and privacy-preserving k-NN query protocol in two-tiered wireless sensor networks. Our proposal prevents adversaries from gaining sensitive information of both queries issued by users and data collected by sensor nodes while allows the sink to verify whether results are valid. It offers confidentiality of queries and data by constructing a special code, provides integrity verification by the correlation among data. Moreover, by the implementation of KNQ query framework, PPKN also achieves high efficient in query response and energy consumption. Finally, the theoretical analysis and experiment results show the high performance of PPKN in terms of privacy preservation and query efficiency.

A hybrid model for explaining older adult' continuance intention toward SNSs

Due to the rapid growth of social net services (SNSs), research into SNSs continuance usage has recently emerged as an important issue in information systems adaption. This study develops an integrated model based on the expectation-confirmation model (ECM), the technology acceptance model (TAM), and the theory of planned behavior (TPB), and apply them into the context of older adults' continuance intention toward SNSs. The hypothesized model is validated empirically using a sample collected from 250 older adults who had prior experience with SNSs and was tested against the proposed research model using structure equation modeling. Analysis results demonstrate that satisfaction has the most significant effect on older adults' continuance intention, followed by perceived usefulness, attitude, subject norm and perceived behavioral control. The results of these findings for SNSs practitioners are discussed at the end of this work. © 2015 SERSC.

A survey about the information needs of elderly people could find out the information required to address the needs of the aged in a community. Analyzing data collected from 600 elderly people through field investigation with a questionnaire in a rural community in central China, the results show that the preferred information format of the majority of aged people is audio and/or visual information product, especially audio product. Most of the aged people stated that they were in need of healthy and medical non-educational audio information products. The survey maybe lead to improved and expanded information services for respondents who are short of such services, including Public broadcasting services, extending the audiovisual collection, loaning audiovisuals, religious faith audiovisuals and others providing needed information to them. In summary, this paper assembles views on what the elderly people currently need to be helped by both practitioners and researchers in the elderly people services domain.

At the early stage of software lifecycle,the complexity measurement of UML class diagrams plays an important role in software development,testing and maintenance,and provides guidance for developing high quality *** order to study which one is better,simple or complex metrics,this paper analyzes and compares four typical metrics of UML class diagrams from experimental software engineering view ***,analyzability and maintainability were classified and predicted for 27 class diagrams related to a banking system by means of algorithm C5.0 within the famous toolkit *** suggest that the performance of simple metrics is not inferior to that of complex metrics,in some cases even better than that of complex metrics.

This paper uses the theoretic framework of TOE(technology-organization-environment), identifies the factors promoting and hindering informatization of nursing institutions for the aged. This case study of six nursing institutions for the aged finds that different ownership institutions have some different factors promoting and hindering the process of informatization. In general, compared with public nursing institutions for the aged, private nursing institutions have more both promoting and hindering factors in technological and organizational aspect, but less hindering factors in the environmental aspect;and, risk management is an important promoting factor in the application of information systems for these institutions, it is fewer reported in other industries' study. These findings extend the application field of the TOE theory;extend the informatization study in nursing institutions for the aged. In practical,we suggest that different ownership's nursing institutions for the aged should take good advantage of promoting factors considering their own resources, overcome the hindering factors to ensure the successful implementation of the informatization.
