Application of dual modality contrast agent combined with multi-scale representation in ultrasound-magnetic resonance imaging registration scheme

To achieve the image registration/fusion and perfect the quality of the integration, with dual modality contrast agent (DMCA), a novel multi-scale representation registration method between ultrasound imaging (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is presented in the paper, and how DMCA influence on registration accuracy is chiefly discussed. Owing to US’s intense speckle noise, it is a tremendous challenge to register US with any other modality images. How to improve the algorithms for US processing has become the bottleneck, and in the short term it is difficult to have a breakthrough. In that case, DMCA is employed in both US and MRI to enhance the region of interest. Then, because multi-scale representation is a strategy that attempts to diminish or eliminate several possible local minima and lead to convex optimization problems to be solved quickly and more efficiently, a multi-scale representation Gaussian pyramid based affine registration (MRGP-AR) scheme is constructed to complete the US-MRI registration process. In view of the above-mentioned method, the comparison tests indicate that US-MRI registration/fusion may be a remarkable method for gaining high-quality registration image. The experiments also show that it is feasible that novel nano-materials combined with excellent algorithm are used to solve some hard tasks in medical image processing field. © 2020 Tech Science Press. Real-world data in emerging applications may suffer from highly-skewed class imbalanced distribution, however how to deal with this kind of problem appropriately through deep learning needs further investigation. In this paper, we mainly propose a novel cross-entropy based loss function, referred to as Additive Scale Loss (ASL), for deep representation learning and imbalanced classification. To deal with the class imbalanced problem, ASL aims at increasing the loss in case of misclassification, which can avoid the superimposed loss values caused by the large amount of easily classified data in the unbalanced database to dominate the loss value of misclassified data. Moreover, in real-world applications, one data source may be used for multiple scenarios, such as classification and embedding learning, however training two separable models to handle these problems is costly, especially in deep learning area. To tackle this issue, we present and integrate a discriminative inter-class separation term into ASL, and propose a discriminative ASL (D-ASL), which can not only improve the classification performance, but also obtain discriminative representations simultaneously. The discriminative inter-class separation term is general, and can be easily integrated to other loss functions, such as CE and FL, as the byproducts. Finally, a new deep convolutional neural network equipped with D-ASL and a fully-connected (FC) layer is proposed, which can classify the imbalanced image data and obtain the discriminative representations at the same time. Extensive experimental results verified the superior performance of our method.

In the era of the sixth generation (6G) and industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), an industrial cyber-physical system (ICPS) drives the proliferation of sensor devices and computing-intensive tasks. To address the limited resources of IIoT sensor devices, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted mobile edge computing (MEC) has emerged as a promising solution, providing flexible and cost-effective services in close proximity of IIoT sensor devices (ISDs). However, leveraging aerial MEC to meet the delay-sensitive and computation-intensive requirements of the ISDs could face several challenges, including the limited communication, computation and caching (3C) resources, stringent offloading requirements for 3C services, and constrained on-board energy of UAVs. To address these issues, we first present a collaborative aerial MEC-assisted ICPS architecture by incorporating the computing capabilities of the macro base station (MBS) and UAVs. We then formulate a service delay minimization optimization problem (SDMOP). Since the SDMOP is proved to be an NP-hard problem, we propose a joint computation offloading, caching, communication resource allocation, computation resource allocation, and UAV trajectory control approach (JC5A). Specifically, JC5A consists of a block successive upper bound minimization method of multipliers (BSUMM) for computation offloading and service caching, a convex optimization-based method for communication and computation resource allocation, and a successive convex approximation (SCA)-based method for UAV trajectory control. Moreover, we theoretically prove the convergence and polynomial complexity of JC5A. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach can achieve superior system performance compared to the benchmark approaches and algorithms. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Prompt Tuning Pushes Farther, Contrastive Learning Pulls Closer: A Two-Stage Approach to Mitigate Social Biases

As the representation capability of Pre-trained Language Models (PLMs) improve, there is growing concern that they will inherit social biases from unprocessed corpora. Most previous debiasing techniques used Counterfactual data Augmentation (CDA) to balance the training corpus. However, CDA slightly modifies the original corpus, limiting the representation distance between different demographic groups to a narrow range. As a result, the debiasing model easily fits the differences between counterfactual pairs, which affects its debiasing performance with limited text resources. In this paper, we propose an adversarial training-inspired two-stage debiasing model using Contrastive learning with Continuous Prompt Augmentation (named CCPA) to mitigate social biases in PLMs’ encoding. In the first stage, we propose a data augmentation method based on continuous prompt tuning to push farther the representation distance between sample pairs along different demographic groups. In the second stage, we utilize contrastive learning to pull closer the representation distance between the augmented sample pairs and then fine-tune PLMs’ parameters to get debiased encoding. Our approach guides the model to achieve stronger debiasing performance by adding difficulty to the training process. Extensive experiments show that CCPA outperforms baselines in terms of debiasing performance. Meanwhile, experimental results on the GLUE benchmark show that CCPA retains the language modeling capability of PLMs. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Cycle extendability of hamiltonian strongly chordal graphs

In 1990, Hendry conjectured that all Hamiltonian chordal graphs are cycle extendable. After a series of papers confirming the conjecture for a number of graph classes, the conjecture is yet refuted by Lafond and Seamone in 2015. Given that their counterexamples are not strongly chordal graphs and they are all only 2-connected, Lafond and Seamone asked the following two questions: (1) Are Hamiltonian strongly chordal graphs cycle extendable? (2) Is there an integer k such that all k-connected Hamiltonian chordal graphs are cycle extendable? Later, a conjecture stronger than Hendry’s is proposed. In this paper, we resolve all these questions in the negative. On the positive side, we add to the list of cycle extendable graphs two more graph classes, namely, Hamiltonian 4-FAN-free chordal graphs where every induced K5 − e has true twins, and Hamiltonian {4-FAN, A}-free chordal graphs. An Empirical Study on Information Extraction using Large Language Models

Human-like large language models (LLMs), especially the most powerful and popular ones in OpenAI’s GPT family, have proven to be very helpful for many natural language processing (NLP) related tasks. Therefore, various attempts have been made to apply LLMs to information extraction (IE), which is a fundamental NLP task that involves extracting information from unstructured plain text. To demonstrate the latest representative progress in LLMs’ information extraction ability, we assess the information extraction ability of GPT-4 (the latest version of GPT at the time of writing this paper) from four perspectives: Performance, Evaluation Criteria, Robustness, and Error Types. Our results suggest a visible performance gap between GPT-4 and state-of-the-art (SOTA) IE methods. To alleviate this problem, considering the LLMs’ human-like characteristics, we propose and analyze the effects of a series of simple prompt-based methods, which can be generalized to other LLMs and NLP tasks. Rich experiments show our methods’ effectiveness and some of their remaining issues in improving GPT-4’s information extraction ability. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In order to solve the problems of low model accuracy,poor computing power,poor parallel ability and excessive power consumption in the deployment of RGBD based 3 D target detection model at the embedded end,this paper first proposes an improved RGBD 3 D target detection model based on ENet semantic segmentation model,which takes ENet as the semantic segmentation network,RGB image and depth information are fused to realize 3 D target ***,in order to apply the model at the edge,this paper constructs a lightweight network and cuts the network in the down-sampling stage of ENet ***,this paper uses Xilinx ZCU104 as the hardware development kit,which takes FPGA as the auxiliary parallel operation unit and ARM as the main operation *** is a heterogeneous computing architecture with the ability to deal with complex *** architecture uses FPGA to accelerate the depth model in parallel,which improves the operation speed and reduces the power *** test results of the model on ZCU104 are compared with other *** results show that while ensuring the accuracy,the power consumption of the heterogeneous computing architecture used in this paper is 93% lowerthan that of Intel Xeon e5-2620 v4 CPU,the speed is 12 times higher,and the speed is more than 180 times higher than that of ARM Cortex-A53 commonly used at the edge.

Adaptive structure-constrained robust latent low-rank coding for image recovery

In this paper, we propose a robust representation learning model called Adaptive Structure-constrained Low-Rank Coding (AS-LRC) for the latent representation of data. To recover the underlying subspaces more accurately, AS-LRC seamlessly integrates an adaptive weighting based block-diagonal structure-constrained low-rank representation and the group sparse salient feature extraction into a unified framework. Specifically, AS-LRC performs the latent decomposition of given data into a low-rank reconstruction by a block-diagonal codes matrix, a group sparse locality-adaptive salient feature part and a sparse error part. To enforce the block-diagonal structures adaptive to different real datasets for the low-rank recovery, AS-LRC clearly computes an auto-weighting matrix based on the locality-adaptive features and multiplies by the low-rank coefficients for direct minimization at the same time. This encourages the codes to be block-diagonal and can avoid the tricky issue of choosing optimal neighborhood size or kernel width for the weight assignment, suffered in most local geometrical structures-preserving low-rank coding methods. In addition, our AS-LRC selects the L2,1-norm on the projection for extracting group sparse features rather than learning low-rank features by Nuclear-norm regularization, which can make learnt features robust to noise and outliers in samples, and can also make the feature coding process efficient. Extensive visualizations and numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of our AS-LRC for image representation and recovery. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Identification of misleading product description in e-commerce website

Online shopping has been accepted by more and more consumers. C2C websites provide thousands of offers for consumers as a mainstream e-commerce platform. When customers search products in C2C website, some returned offers have misleading description. Misleading description means that the description does not convey the actual price of products, but usually claiming much lower price for the purpose of attracting more consumers. The misleading offers affect consumers' judgments and bring bad influences on the websites' reputation. This paper proposes an approach that combines statistical model HMM with statistical outlier detection method to detect misleading offers. HMM model is built to determine the product that an offer description really designates, providing an efficient solution to eliminate the ambiguity of the offer description caused by description irregularities. The statistical outlier detection method is effective to deal with limited product offer information. The paper further conducts experiments on real data set of electric business websites and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. ©2014 ISCAS.
