Point-of-Interest (POI) recommendation, pivotal for guiding users to their next interested locale, grapples with the persistent challenge of data sparsity. Whereas knowledge graphs (KGs) have emerged as a favored tool to mitigate the issue, existing KG-based methods tend to overlook two crucial elements: the intention steering users’ location choices and the high-order topological structure within the KG. In this paper, we craft an Intention-aware knowledge Graph (IKG) that harmonizes users’ visit histories, movement trajectories, and location categories to model user intentions. Building upon IKG, our novel Intention-aware knowledge Graph Network (IKGN) delves deeper into the POI recommendation by weighing and propagating node embeddings through an attention mechanism, capturing the unique locational intent of each user. A sequential model like GRU is then employed to ensure a comprehensive representation of users’ short- and long-term location preferences. An empirical study on two real-world datasets validates the effectiveness of our proposed IKGN, with it markedly outshining seven benchmark rival models in both Recall and NDCG metrics. On September 5, 2015, the State Council of Chinese Government, China’s cabinet formally announced its Action Framework for Promoting Big data (***, 2015). This is the milestone for China to catch up the global wave of big data. Since 2012 big data became a hot issue for scientific communities as well as the governments of many countries (Lazer et al. in Science 343:1203–1205, 2014;Einav et al. in Science 345:715, 2014;Cate in Science 346:818, 2014;Khoury and Ioannidis in Science 346:1054–1055, 2014). At the 2013 G8 Summit, the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, U.S.A. and United Kingdom agreed on an "open government plan" (***/government/publications/open-data-charter/g8-open-data-charter-and-technical-annex, 2013). China’s framework, however, mainly emphasizes the integration of all trans-departmental data and establishes a number of government-driven national big data platforms so as to provide big data services to research, public and enterprises. The framework not only demonstrates a strong commitment of the Chinese government on big data, but also covers a wide range of governmental branches, enterprises and institutions far more than that of other countries. In addition, the framework shows an interpretation of big data that differs from other countries. The increasing availability of GPS-embedded mobile devices has given rise to a new spectrum of location-based services, which have accumulated a huge collection of location trajectories. In practice, a large portion of these trajectories are of low-sampling-rate. For instance, the time interval between consecutive GPS points of some trajectories can be several minutes or even hours. With such a low sampling rate, most details of their movement are lost, which makes them difficult to process effectively. In this work, we investigate how to reduce the uncertainty in such kind of trajectories. Specifically, given a low-sampling-rate trajectory, we aim to infer its possible routes. The methodology adopted in our work is to take full advantage of the rich information extracted from the historical trajectories. We propose a systematic solution, History based Route Inference System (HRIS), which covers a series of novel algorithms that can derive the travel pattern from historical data and incorporate it into the route inference process. To validate the effectiveness of the system, we apply our solution to the map-matching problem which is an important application scenario of this work, and conduct extensive experiments on a real taxi trajectory dataset. The experiment results demonstrate that HRIS can achieve higher accuracy than the existing map-matching algorithms for low-sampling-rate trajectories.

SVT-Net: Super Light-Weight Sparse Voxel Transformer for Large Scale Place Recognition

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) and Autonomous Driving are becoming increasingly more important in recent years. Point cloud-based large scale place recognition is the spine of them. While many models have been proposed and have achieved acceptable performance by learning short-range local features, they always skip long-range contextual properties. Moreover, the model size also becomes a serious shackle for their wide applications. To overcome these challenges, we propose a super light-weight network model termed SVT-Net. On top of the highly efficient 3D Sparse Convolution (SP-Conv), an Atom-based Sparse Voxel Transformer (ASVT) and a Cluster-based Sparse Voxel Transformer (CSVT) are proposed respectively to learn both short-range local features and long-range contextual features. Consisting of ASVT and CSVT, SVT-Net can achieve state-of-the-art performance in terms of both recognition accuracy and running speed with a super-light model size (0.9M parameters). Meanwhile, for the purpose of further boosting efficiency, we introduce two simplified versions, which also achieve state-of-the-art performance and further reduce the model size to 0.8M and 0.4M respectively. In this paper, a rapid resynchronization method using intent logs is suggested for replication in-memory databases supporting mobile communication applications. Both the identifiers of unsynchronized segments and the identifiers of the slaves who have missed the updates in the segments are recorded in the intent logs. When receiving a resynchronization request from a slave, the master will scan the intent logs to find the unsynchronized segments for the salve, and then send the segments gotten directly from its memory to the slave. The performance results shown the intent logs method can reduce resynchronization time than methods using transaction logs.

Visualization technique is a powerful method used by science and technology intelligence analysis experts to identify technical competitor groups. Common visualization methods tend to create graphs meeting the aesthetic criteria instead of finding better clusters, and their analysis results may provide misleading information. A process model of technical group identification method was presented using LinLog graph clustering algorithm to find better competitor groups. In the model, technical similarity value of each pair of competitors is measured based on their R&D output in sub-fields, and two competitors have a link when they have high similarity value; LinLog algorithm, which is aimed at producing better clusters, was employed to layout graph with competitors as nodes, their links as edges and technology similarity values as weights of edges. Experiment results show the efficiency of presented method.

This paper explores a novel multi-modal alternating learning paradigm pursuing a reconciliation between the exploitation of uni-modal features and the exploration of cross-modal interactions. This is motivated by the fact that current paradigms of multi-modal learning tend to explore multi-modal features simultaneously. The resulting gradient prohibits further exploitation of the features in the weak modality, leading to modality competition, where the dominant modality overpowers the learning process. To address this issue, we study the modality-alternating learning paradigm to achieve reconcilement. Specifically, we propose a new method called ReconBoost to update a fixed modality each time. Herein, the learning objective is dynamically adjusted with a reconcilement regularization against competition with the historical models. By choosing a KL-based reconcilement, we show that the proposed method resembles Friedman's Gradient-Boosting (GB) algorithm, where the updated learner can correct errors made by others and help enhance the overall performance. The major difference with the classic GB is that we only preserve the newest model for each modality to avoid overfitting caused by ensembling strong learners. Furthermore, we propose a memory consolidation scheme and a global rectification scheme to make this strategy more effective. Experiments over six multi-modal benchmarks speak to the efficacy of the method. We release the code at https://***/huacong/ReconBoost. Copyright 2024 by the author(s)

Predictive modeling of networked data finds many real-world applications, such as fraud detection in social networks, drug discovery in biomedical networks, paper topic classification in citation networks, and so forth. Although the advanced machine learning approaches can help build reasonably accurate predictive models, their applicability is immensely hindered by the data labeling tasks, which are onerous, time-consuming, and error-prone. In this paper, we propose a novel active learning paradigm for networked data, named topology-and-content-aware (TACA) active learning, aiming to minimize the number of labels while achieving a desirable level of model accuracy. Overall, TACA advances existing works from two aspects: (1) TACA makes no assumption on the network property, whereas most existing works only perform effectively on a locally consistent network in which linked nodes are expected to share the same labels and (2) TACA generates queries without relying on model performance, thereby enjoying robust predictive results even when noises exist in the queried labels. Both theoretical and empirical evidences are presented, substantiating the effectiveness of and optimism our approach.

Online customer review is considered as a significant informative resource which is useful for both potential customer and product manufacturers. As a result, it is one of the most challenging tasks to mine customer reviews automatically and to provide users with opinion summary. Product features and opinion word play the most important roles in the customers' opinions mining. In this paper, we dedicate our work to opinion word mining. We proposed an approach for opinion word identification based on the association rule mining algorithm. The method makes full use of co-occurrence syntactic characteristic between product features and opinion word. Firstly, the product feature is identified by two-stage filtering scheme, and secondly the opinion word is extracted through association rule mining. The final experiment results show that the proposed method could not only obtain the product features related to domain characteristics, but identify the opinion word effectively. Meanwhile, our approach possesses much higher precision and recall than Hu's work.

Market Value of Innovation: An Empirical Analysis on China's Stock Market

Studies on market value of innovation investment have been based on US and European database. However, few re-searchers investigate Chinese stock market about the market value of firm's expected R&D performance. In this paper, we use constructed panel dataset from three representative stock markets in China: Main Board Market, Small and Media-sized Enterprise Board Market and Growth Enterprise Market and then use intangible assets increment as innovation indicator to examine the innovation investment-firm performance association in both manufacturing and service industries by a dataset over an 11-year period covering 1455 firms to evaluate the differences in their relative contribution to market performance. By comparing the results of these three stock markets, we find out the effect of R&D investment and increasing R&D input to market value is insignificant in all three stock markets, resulting from the weak protection for minority investors and loose regulation of information disclosure. Different constructions of intangible assets of listed firms on MBM and GEM account for market's relatively low efficiency to reflect real value of R&D investment. On industry-level, we conclude that R&D investment in both service and manufacturing sector contributes positively to market performance of firms and R&D investment in service industry shows stronger and more significant linkage to market value than manufacturing industry.
