Single Image Deraining task aims at recovering the rain-free background from an image degraded by rain streaks and rain accumulation. For the powerful fitting ability of deep neural networks and massive training data, data-driven deep SID methods obtained significant improvement over traditional ones. Current SID methods usually focus on improving the deraining performance by proposing different kinds of deraining networks, while neglecting the interpretation of the solving process. As a result, the generalization ability may still be limited in real-world scenarios, and the deraining results also cannot effectively improve the performance of subsequent high-level tasks (e.g., object detection). To explore these issues, we in this paper re-examine the three important factors (i.e., data, rain model and network architecture) for the SID problem, and specifically analyze them by proposing new and more reasonable criteria (i.e., general vs. specific, synthetical vs. mathematical, black-box vs. white-box). We also study the relationship of the three factors from a new perspective of data, and reveal two different solving paradigms (explicit vs. implicit) for the SID task. We further discuss the current mainstream data-driven SID methods from five aspects, i.e., training strategy, network pipeline, domain knowledge, data preprocessing, and objective function, and some useful conclusions are summarized by statistics. Besides, we profoundly studied one of the three factors, i.e., data, and measured the performance of current methods on different datasets through extensive experiments to reveal the effectiveness of SID data. Association rule mining is one of the most important and basic technique in data mining, which has been studied extensively and has a wide range of applications. However, as traditional data mining algorithms usually only focus on analyzing data organized in single table, applying these algorithms in multi-relational data environment will result in many problems. This paper summarizes these problems, proposes a framework for the mining of multi-relational association rule, and gives a definition of the mining task. After classifying the existing work into two categories, it describes the main techniques used in several typical algorithms, and it also makes comparison and analysis among them. Finally, it points out some issues unsolved and some future further research work in this area.

Fast One-Stage Unsupervised Domain Adaptive Person Search

Unsupervised person search aims to localize a particular target person from a gallery set of scene images without annotations, which is extremely challenging due to the unexpected variations of the unlabeled domains. However, most existing methods dedicate to developing multi-stage models to adapt domain variations while using clustering for iterative model training, which inevitably increases model complexity. To address this issue, we propose a Fast One-stage Unsupervised person Search (FOUS) which complementary integrates domain adaptaion with label adaptaion within an end-to-end manner without iterative clustering. To minimize the domain discrepancy, FOUS introduced an Attention-based Domain Alignment Module (ADAM) which can not only align various domains for both detection and ReID tasks but also construct an attention mechanism to reduce the adverse impacts of low-quality candidates resulting from unsupervised detection. Moreover, to avoid the redundant iterative clustering mode, FOUS adopts a prototype-guided labeling method which minimizes redundant correlation computations for partial samples and assigns noisy coarse label groups efficiently. The coarse label groups will be continuously refined via label-flexible training network with an adaptive selection strategy. With the adapted domains and labels, FOUS can achieve the state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on two benchmark datasets, CUHK-SYSU and PRW. Dual UAV Cluster-Assisted Maritime Physical Layer Secure Communications via Collaborative Beamforming

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can be utilized as relay platforms to assist maritime wireless communications. However, complex channels and multipath effects at sea can adversely affect the quality of UAV transmitted signals. Collaborative beamforming (CB) can enhance the signal strength and range to assist the UAV relay for remote maritime communications. However, due to the open nature of UAV channels, security issue requires special consideration. This paper proposes a dual UAV cluster-assisted system via CB to achieve physical layer security in maritime wireless communications. Specifically, one UAV cluster forms a maritime UAV-enabled virtual antenna array (MUVAA) relay to forward data signals to the remote legitimate vessel, and the other UAV cluster forms an MUVAA jammer to send jamming signals to the remote eavesdropper. In this system, we formulate a secure and energy-efficient maritime communication multi-objective optimization problem (SEMCMOP) to maximize the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the legitimate vessel, minimize the SINR of the eavesdropping vessel and minimize the total flight energy consumption of UAVs. Since the SEMCMOP is an NP-hard and large-scale optimization problem, we propose an improved swarm intelligence optimization algorithm with chaotic solution initialization and hybrid solution update strategies to solve the problem. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm outperforms other comparison algorithms, and it can achieve more efficient signal transmission by using the CB-based method. Older adults have diversified needs often associated with particular aging scenarios. People started to use aging scenarios to provide better Smart Eldercare services and develop innovative solutions. The problem is how to manage these scenarios effectively. To our best knowledge, this study is the first to develop a model to provide a structured framework of aging scenarios for research and teaching of eldercare services. Labeling aging scenarios can facilitate their collection, classification, and consolidation within this model. This study uses the automatic labeling approach to manage and utilize aging scenarios. Under each class, there are labels with different numbers and smaller granularity to reflect the requirements in each scenario case. Since a scenario case often involves more than one label, properly labeling it becomes a multi-label text classification problem. We extend the multi-label text classification model LSAN for labeling aging scenario cases. For evaluation purposes, we collected 938 scenario cases as the dataset. Experimental results show that our proposed method can achieve an average accuracy of 61.66%, better than other classical methods. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Reading-strategy Inspired Visual Representation Learning for Text-to-Video Retrieval

This paper aims for the task of text-to-video retrieval, where given a query in the form of a natural-language sentence, it is asked to retrieve videos which are semantically relevant to the given query, from a great number of unlabeled videos. The success of this task depends on cross-modal representation learning that projects both videos and sentences into common spaces for semantic similarity computation. In this work, we concentrate on video representation learning, an essential component for text-to-video retrieval. Inspired by the reading strategy of humans, we propose a Reading-strategy Inspired Visual Representation Learning (RIVRL) to represent videos, which consists of two branches: a previewing branch and an intensive-reading branch. The previewing branch is designed to briefly capture the overview information of videos, while the intensive-reading branch is designed to obtain more in-depth information. Moreover, the intensive-reading branch is aware of the video overview captured by the previewing branch. Such holistic information is found to be useful for the intensive-reading branch to extract more fine-grained features. Extensive experiments on three datasets are conducted, where our model RIVRL achieves a new state-of-the-art on TGIF and VATEX. Moreover, on MSR-VTT, our model using two video features shows comparable performance to the state-of-the-art using seven video features and even outperforms models pre-trained on the large-scale HowTo100M dataset. The trusted process mechanism is an important part of the operating system security mechanism, but there is no uniform definition of the trusted process and there are some limitations in understanding its fundamental properties. In this paper, the trustworthiness of a trusted process is discussed in terms of privilege, data-operated integrity, functional and logic correctness, self-integrity, availability and trusted interactions. A trusted process definition is then given which summarizes the fundamental properties of a trusted process as a theoretical foundation for researching and enforcing the trusted process mechanism. A prototype of a trusted process mechanism is implemented in a secure operating system based on Linux, with the trustworthiness of the trusted process assured in many ways to improve and extende the original trust mechanisms in Linux.

AME4163: Principles of engineering Design is a design, build and test course offered at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, USA. Throughout the semester students are expected to reflect on authentic and immersive experiences and write Take-aways and Learning Statements. At the end of the semester each student submits a summative Semester Learning Essay. Between 2019–2021 we collected about 10,000 Take-aways and Learning Statements from the Semester Learning Essays of nearly 400 students. In this paper, we attempt to help instructors gain insight of what students have learned through these materials and thence improve the delivery of the course in the future. We analyze their Take-aways from summative Semester Learning Essays by using dictionary-based sentiment analysis to assess students' subjective feelings toward what they have learned. The results prove that we gain insight into their learning thereby providing instructors with evidence-based guidance on modifying the course from different perspectives. The method proposed is generalizable to courses that involve authentic immersive experiences.

Few-shot Open Relation Extraction with Gaussian Prototype and Adaptive Margin

Few-shot relation extraction with none-of-the-above (FsRE with NOTA) aims at predicting labels in few-shot scenarios with unknown classes. FsRE with NOTA is more challenging than the conventional few-shot relation extraction task, since the boundaries of unknown classes are complex and difficult to learn. Meta-learning based methods, especially prototype-based methods, are the mainstream solutions to this task. They obtain the classification boundary by learning the sample distribution of each class. However, their performance is limited because few-shot overfitting and NOTA boundary confusion lead to misclassification between known and unknown classes. To this end, we propose a novel framework based on Gaussian prototype and adaptive margin named GPAM for FsRE with NOTA, which includes three modules, semi-factual representation, GMM-prototype metric learning and decision boundary learning. The first two modules obtain better representations to solve the few-shot problem through debiased information enhancement and Gaussian space distance measurement. The third module learns more accurate classification boundaries and prototypes through adaptive margin and negative sampling. In the training procedure of GPAM, we use contrastive learning loss to comprehensively consider the effects of range and margin on the classification of known and unknown classes to ensure the model's stability and robustness. Sufficient experiments and ablations on the FewRel dataset show that GPAM surpasses previous prototype methods and achieves state-of-the-art performance. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Few-shot deep adversarial learning for video-based person re-identification

Video-based person re-identification (re-ID) refers to matching people across camera views from arbitrary unaligned video footages. Existing methods rely on supervision signals to optimise a projected space under which the distances between inter/intra-videos are maximised/minimised. However, this demands exhaustively labelling people across camera views, rendering them unable to be scaled in large networked cameras. Also, it is noticed that learning effective video representations with view invariance is not explicitly addressed for which features exhibit different distributions otherwise. Thus, matching videos for person re-ID demands flexible models to capture the dynamics in time-series observations and learn view-invariant representations with access to limited labeled training samples. In this paper, we propose a novel few-shot deep learning approach to video-based person re-ID, to learn comparable representations that are discriminative and view-invariant. The proposed method is developed on the variational recurrent neural networks (VRNNs) and trained adversarially to produce latent variables with temporal dependencies that are highly discriminative yet view-invariant in matching persons. Through extensive experiments conducted on three benchmark datasets, we empirically show the capability of our method in creating view-invariant temporal features and state-of-the-art performance achieved by our method.
