Distributed data-driven fault detection for industrial interconnected systems with unknown topology structure ⁎

Driven by the enhancing requirements for ensuring stable operation of complex industrial processes, this paper investigates a distributed data-driven fault detection (FD) method for industrial interconnected systems. The topology structure of the industrial interconnected system is presumed to be unknown. To this end, the input/output (I/O) data-set model for the interconnected system and the distributed input/output data-set models for the subsystems are derived first. Then, the topology structure of the interconnected system is reconstructed through data-driven realization of gap metric by utilizing the subspace Identification method. Subsequently, the distributed data-driven fault detection method with enhanced information exchange topology is developed. Finally, we validate the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed method by conducting a case study on a chemical process consisting of four continuous-stirred tank reactors (CSTRs).

Multi-Label Truth Inference for Crowdsourcing Using Mixture Models

When acquiring labels from crowdsourcing platforms, a task may be designed to include multiple labels and the values of each label may belong to a set of various distinct options, which is the so-called multi-class multi-label annotation. To improve the quality of labels, requesters usually let one task be independently completed by a group of heterogeneous crowdsourced workers. Then, the true values of the multiple labels of each task are inferred from these repeated noisy labels. In this paper, we propose two novel probabilistic models MCMLI and MCMLD to address the multi-class multi-label inference problem in crowdsourcing. MCMLI assumes that the labels of each task are mutually independent and MCMLD utilizes a mixture of multiple independently multinoulli distributions to capture the correlation among the labels. Both models can jointly infer multiple true labels of each instance as well as estimate the reliability of crowdsourced workers modeled by a set of confusion matrices with an expectation-maximization algorithm. Experiments with three typical crowdsourcing scenarios and a real-world dataset show that our proposed models significantly outperform existing competitive alternatives. When the labels are strongly correlated, MCMLD substantially outperforms MCMLI. Furthermore, our models can be easily simplified to the one-coin models, which show more advantageous when errors are uniformly distributed, or labels are sparse. © 1989-2012 IEEE.

Understanding transitions in animated bar charts

Animated bar charts have gained popularity on the Internet for their ability to display historical rankings through smooth animated transitions that clearly show the rankings over time. To investigate the usage scenarios of these charts, we analyzed the pop-up comments to understand viewers’ focus. Our findings suggest that animated transitions play a key role in viewers’ perception of ranking changes. We summarized various transition methods and evaluated their impact on user perception and memory through user experiments. We also conducted a detailed analysis of each transition method’s implementation. Our research sheds light on the effectiveness of different transition strategies for animated bar charts. © The Author(s) 2023.

A remaining useful life (RUL) prediction algorithm considering temporal uncertainty, individual variability uncertainty, and unmodeled dynamic uncertainty is proposed for hidden degradation process with unmeasurable degradation index. First, the degradation model integrating multiple uncertainties is established. Then, the estimated distribution of degradation index and degradation model parameters are iteratively computed using the nonlinear filter. Finally, based on the real-time multiple uncertainties information, the probability density function (PDF) is adaptively updated, achieving the RUL prediction for hidden degradation process with the influence of multiple uncertainties.

With the implementation of the "Internet+" strategy, electronic medical records are generally applied in the medical field. Deep mining of electronic medical record content data is an effective means to obtain medical knowledge and analyse patients' states, but the existing methods for extracting entities from electronic medical records have problems of redundant information, overlapping entities, and low accuracy rates. Therefore, this paper proposes an entity extraction method for electronic medical records based on the network framework of BERT-Bi LSTM, which incorporates a multichannel self-attention mechanism and location relationship features. First, the text input sequence was encoded using the BERT-BiLSTM network framework, and the global semantic information of the sentence was mined more deeply using the multichannel self-attention mechanism. Then, the position relation characteristic was used to extract the local semantic message of the text, and the position relation characteristic of the word and the position embedding matrix of the whole sentence were obtained. Next, the extracted global semantic information was stitched with the positional embedding matrix of the sentence to obtain the current entity classification matrix. Finally,the proposed method was validated on the dataset of Chinese medical text entity relationship extraction and the 2010i2b2/VA relationship corpus, and the experimental results indicate that the proposed method surpasses existing methods in terms of precision, recall, F1 value and training time.

Recently,the Third Pole(TP)region has experienced rapid environmental *** data are essential for hydrometeorological and ecological applications but still have large uncertainties on the TP owing to the heterogeneous land surface,complex terrain,and sparse weather *** this study,a long-term(1979–2020)high-resolution(1/30°)meteorological forcing dataset for the TP(TPMFD)was developed,as a sister to the widely used China Meteorological Forcing dataset(CMFD).The TPMFD comprises seven components necessary for driving land surface *** have previously contributed precipitation and downward shortwave radiation data for the TPMFD,and this study presents the development of five other components and focuses on validations for all ***,2-meter air temperature,2-meter specific humidity,10-meter wind speed,and surface air pressure were generated by combining the fifth-generation atmospheric reanalysis for European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts(ERA5),a short-term high-resolution atmospheric simulation,and in situ observations,and the downward longwave radiation was calculated using semi-physical *** cross-validation and independent-validation demonstrated that most variables in the developed dataset outperformed those in widely used reanalysis datasets,including ERA5,ERA5-Land,and the Global Land data Assimilation System(GLDAS).This dataset is expected to be beneficial for climate analyses and modeling applications of land-surface processes on the TP.

UAV-Assisted Joint Mobile Edge Computing and data Collection via Matching-Enabled Deep Reinforcement Learning

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted mobile edge computing (MEC) and data collection (DC) have been popular research issues. Different from existing works that consider MEC and DC scenarios separately, this paper investigates a multi-UAV-assisted joint MEC-DC system. Specifically, we formulate a joint optimization problem to minimize the MEC latency and maximize the collected data volume. This problem can be classified as a non-convex mixed integer programming problem that exhibits long-term optimization and dynamics. Thus, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based approach that jointly optimizes the UAV movement, user transmit power, and user association in real time to solve the problem efficiently. Specifically, we reformulate the optimization problem into an action space-reduced Markov decision process (MDP) and optimize the user association by using a two-phase matching-based association (TMA) strategy. Subsequently, we propose a soft actor-critic (SAC)-based approach that integrates the proposed TMA strategy (SAC-TMA) to solve the formulated joint optimization problem collaboratively. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SAC-TMA is able to coordinate the two subsystems and can effectively reduce the system latency and improve the data collection volume compared with other benchmark algorithms. © 2025 IEEE. Simple-Sampling and Hard-Mixup with Prototypes to Rebalance Contrastive Learning for Text Classification

Text classification is a crucial and fundamental task in natural language processing. Compared with the previous learning paradigm of pre-training and fine-tuning by cross entropy loss, the recently proposed supervised contrastive learning approach has received tremendous attention due to its powerful feature learning capability and robustness. Although several studies have incorporated this technique for text classification, some limitations remain. First, many text datasets are imbalanced, and the learning mechanism of supervised contrastive learning is sensitive to data imbalance, which may harm the model performance. Moreover, these models leverage separate classification branch with cross entropy and supervised contrastive learning branch without explicit mutual guidance. To this end, we propose a novel model named SharpReCL for imbalanced text classification tasks. First, we obtain the prototype vector of each class in the balanced classification branch to act as a representation of each class. Then, by further explicitly leveraging the prototype vectors, we construct a proper and sufficient target sample set with the same size for each class to perform the supervised contrastive learning procedure. The empirical results show the effectiveness of our model, which even outperforms popular large language models across several datasets. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Deep learning methods have shown significant performance in medical image analysis tasks. However, they generally act like 'black box' without explanations in both feature extraction and decision processes, leading to lack of clinical insights and high risk assessments. To aid deep learning in envisioning diseases with visual clues, we propose Representation Group-Disentangling Network (RGD-Net), which can completely disentangle feature space of input X-ray images into several independent feature groups, each corresponding to a specific disease. Taking several semantically related and labeled X-ray images as input, RGD-Net firstly extracts completely group-disentangled representations of diseases through Group-Disentangle Module, which applies group-swap and linking operations to construct latent space by enforcing semantic consistency of attributes. To prevent learning degenerate representations defined as shortcut problem, we further introduce adversarial constricts on mapping from features to diseases, thus avoiding model collapse with former free-form disentanglement. Experiments on chestxray-14 and ChestXpert datasets demonstrate that RGD-Net are effective in predicting diseases with remarkable advantages, which leverage potential factors contributing to different diseases, thus enhancing interpretability in working patterns of deep learning methods. © 2022 IEEE.
