Self-supervised learning usually uses a large amount of unlabeled data to pre-train an encoder which can be used as a general-purpose feature extractor, such that downstream users only need to perform fine-tuning operations to enjoy the benefit of "large model". Despite this promising prospect, the security of pre-trained encoder has not been thoroughly investigated yet, especially when the pre-trained encoder is publicly available for commercial use. In this paper, we propose AdvEncoder, the first framework for generating downstream-agnostic universal adversarial examples based on the pre-trained encoder. AdvEncoder aims to construct a universal adversarial perturbation or patch for a set of natural images that can fool all the downstream tasks inheriting the victim pre-trained encoder. Unlike traditional adversarial example works, the pre-trained encoder only outputs feature vectors rather than classification labels. Therefore, we first exploit the high frequency component information of the image to guide the generation of adversarial examples. Then we design a generative attack framework to construct adversarial perturbations/patches by learning the distribution of the attack surrogate dataset to improve their attack success rates and transferability. Our results show that an attacker can successfully attack downstream tasks without knowing either the pre-training dataset or the downstream dataset. We also tailor four defenses for pre-trained encoders, the results of which further prove the attack ability of AdvEncoder. Our codes are available at: https://github. com/CGCL-codes/AdvEncoder. Robin: A Novel Method to Produce Robust Interpreters for Deep Learning-Based Code Classifiers

Deep learning has been widely used in source code classification tasks, such as code classification according to their functionalities, code authorship attribution, and vulnerability detection. Unfortunately, the black-box nature of deep learning makes it hard to interpret and understand why a classifier (i.e., classification model) makes a particular prediction on a given example. This lack of interpretability (or explainability) might have hindered their adoption by practitioners because it is not clear when they should or should not trust a classifier's prediction. The lack of interpretability has motivated a number of studies in recent years. However, existing methods are neither robust nor able to cope with out-of-distribution examples. In this paper, we propose a novel method to produce Robust interpreters for a given deep learning-based code classifier;the method is dubbed Robin. The key idea behind Robin is a novel hybrid structure combining an interpreter and two approximators, while leveraging the ideas of adversarial training and data augmentation. Experimental results show that on average the interpreter produced by Robin achieves a 6.11% higher fidelity (evaluated on the classifier), 67.22% higher fidelity (evaluated on the approximator), and 15.87x higher robustness than that of the three existing interpreters we evaluated. Moreover, the interpreter is 47.31% less affected by out-of-distribution examples than that of LEMNA. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

As a form of artificial intelligence (AI) technology based on interactive learning, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) has been widely applied across various fields and has achieved remarkable accomplishments. However, DRL faces certain limitations, including low sample efficiency and poor generalization. Therefore, we present how to leverage generative AI (GAI) to address these issues above and enhance the performance of DRL algorithms in this paper. We first introduce several classic GAI and DRL algorithms and demonstrate the applications of GAI-enhanced DRL algorithms. Then, we discuss how to use GAI to improve DRL algorithms from the data and policy perspectives. Subsequently, we introduce a framework that demonstrates an actual and novel integration of GAI with DRL, i.e., GAI-enhanced DRL. Additionally, we provide a case study of the framework on UAV-assisted integrated near-field/far-field communication to validate the performance of the proposed framework. Single Object Tracking for Dynamic Programming based on Fine-grained Network

Single target tracking has always been a key and challenging research field in computer vision. Currently, an increasing number of researchers are focusing on extracting better tracking features and designing the best tracker. This paper proposes a new single target tracking network that uses fine-grained features and dynamic programming (DPFNet). In order to extract superior features, we added an attention module to the regression network enabling us to extract finer-grained and discriminative features to achieve regression. Besides, we did observe that different objects have varying moving rates; for different moving targets, the magnitude of the changes in target position within two adjacent frames is not the same either. Although an area search of 4 times the target's size can be applied to most objects, targets with large position changes may appear in other image areas outside the search area and the target would not be located as a result. Aiming at solving this problem, when designing the tracker, this paper analyzes some of the indicators for predicting the location and uses the analysis results to determine whether the search area is appropriate, so as to dynamically adjust the extent of the search area thereby significantly improving the tracking function. In other words, the size of the search area can be dynamically recalibrated for different images. Subsequent experiments prove that the method put forward in this paper achieves State-of-the-Art results.

Extremely Short Chinese Text Classification Method Based on Bidirectional Semantic Extension

Short text classification methods have achieved significant progress and wide application on text data such as Twitter and Weibo. However, the extremely short chinese texts like tax invoice data are different with traditional short texts in lackness of contextual semantic information, feature sparseness and extremely short length. The existing short text classification methods are difficult to achieve a satisfactory performance in these texts. To address these problems, this paper proposes a text classification method based on bidirectional semantic extension for extremely short texts like Chinese tax invoice data. More specifically, firstly, the Chinese knowledge graph is introduced for extending bidirectional semantic of texts and label data to expand the extremely short texts and ease the problem of feature sparseness; secondly, the hash vectorization is used to avoid the semantic problem caused by the lackness of contextual information. Experimental results conducted the real tax invoice dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Comparative analysis of time irreversibility and amplitude irreversibility based on joint permutation

Although time irreversibility (TIR) and amplitude irreversibility (AIR) are relevant concepts for nonequilibrium analysis, their association has received little attention. This paper conducts a systematic comparative analysis of the relationship between TIR and AIR based on statistical descriptions and numerical simulations. To simplify the quantification of TIR and AIR, the amplitude permutation and global information of the associated vector are combined to produce a joint probability estimation. Chaotic logistic, Henon, and Lorenz series are generated to evaluate TIR and AIR according to surrogate theory, and the distributions of joint permutations for these model series are measured to compare the degree of TIR and AIR. The joint permutation TIR and AIR are then used to investigate nonequilibrium pathological features in epileptic electroencephalography data. Test results suggest that epileptic brain electrical activities, particular those during the onset of seizure, manifest higher nonequilibrium characteristics. According to the statistical definitions and targeted pairs of joint permutations in the chaotic model data, TIR and AIR are fundamentally different nonequilibrium descriptors from time- and amplitude-reversibility, respectively, and thus require different forms of numerical analysis. At the same time, TIR and AIR both provide measures for fluctuation theorems associated with nonequilibrium processes, and have similar probabilistic differences in the pairs of joint permutations and consistent outcomes when used to analyze both the model series and real-world signals. Overall, comparative analysis of TIR and AIR contributes to our understanding of nonequilibrium features and broadens the scope of quantitative nonequilibrium measures. Synthetic Instance Segmentation from Semantic Image Segmentation Masks

In recent years, instance segmentation has garnered significant attention across various applications. However, training a fully-supervised instance segmentation model requires costly both instance-level and pixel-level annotations. In contrast, weakly-supervised instance segmentation methods, such as those using image-level class labels or point labels, often struggle to satisfy the accuracy and recall requirements of practical scenarios. In this paper, we propose a novel paradigm called Synthetic Instance Segmentation (SISeg). SISeg achieves instance segmentation results by leveraging image masks generated by existing semantic segmentation models, and it is highly efficient as we do not require additional training for semantic segmentation or the use of instance-level image annotations. In other words, the proposed model does not need extra manpower or higher computational expenses. Specifically, we first obtain a semantic segmentation mask of the input image via an existent semantic segmentation model. Then, we calculate a displacement field vector for each pixel based on the segmentation mask, which can indicate representations belonging to the same class but different instances, i.e., obtaining the instance-level object information. Finally, the instance segmentation results are refined by a learnable category-agnostic object boundary branch. Extensive experimental results on two challenging datasets highlight the effectiveness of SISeg in achieving competitive results when compared to state-of-the-art methods, especially fully-supervised methods. In this paper, we propose a robust representation learning model called Adaptive Structure-constrained Low-Rank Coding (AS-LRC) for the latent representation of data. To recover the underlying subspaces more accurately, AS-LRC seamlessly integrates an adaptive weighting based block-diagonal structure-constrained low-rank representation and the group sparse salient feature extraction into a unified framework. Specifically, AS-LRC performs the latent decomposition of given data into a low-rank reconstruction by a block-diagonal codes matrix, a group sparse locality-adaptive salient feature part and a sparse error part. To enforce the block-diagonal structures adaptive to different real datasets for the low-rank recovery, AS-LRC clearly computes an auto-weighting matrix based on the locality-adaptive features and multiplies by the low-rank coefficients for direct minimization at the same time. This encourages the codes to be block-diagonal and can avoid the tricky issue of choosing optimal neighborhood size or kernel width for the weight assignment, suffered in most local geometrical structures-preserving low-rank coding methods. In addition, our AS-LRC selects the L2, 1-norm on the projection for extracting group sparse features rather than learning low-rank features by Nuclear-norm regularization, which can make learnt features robust to noise and outliers in samples, and can also make the feature coding process efficient. Extensive visualizations and numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of our AS-LRC for image representation and recovery.

Since the concern of privacy leakage extremely discourages user participation in sharing data, federated learning has gradually become a promising technique for both academia and industry for achieving collaborative learning without leaking information about the local data. Unfortunately, most federated learning solutions cannot efficiently verify the execution of each participant's local machine learning model and protect the privacy of user data, simultaneously. In this article, we first propose a Zero-knowledge Proof-based Federated Learning (ZKP-FL) scheme on blockchain. It leverages zero-knowledge proof for both the computation of local data and the aggregation of local model parameters, aiming to verify the computation process without requiring the plaintext of the local data. We further propose a Practical ZKP-FL (PZKP-FL) scheme to support fraction and non-linear operations. Specifically, we explore a Fraction-Integer mapping function, and use Taylor expansion to efficiently handle non-linear operations while maintaining the accuracy of the federated learning model. We also analyze the security of PZKP-FL. Performance analysis demonstrates that the whole running time of the PZKP-FL scheme is approximately less than one minute in parallel execution. Improving Generalization of Neural Vehicle Routing Problem Solvers Through the Lens of Model Architecture

Neural models produce promising results when solving Vehicle Routing Problems (VRPs), but may often fall short in generalization. Recent attempts to enhance model generalization often incur unnecessarily large training cost or cannot be directly applied to other models solving different VRP variants. To address these issues, we take a novel perspective on model architecture in this study. Specifically, we propose a plug-and-play Entropy-based Scaling Factor (ESF) and a Distribution-Specific (DS) decoder to enhance the size and distribution generalization, respectively. ESF adjusts the attention weight pattern of the model towards familiar ones discovered during training when solving VRPs of varying sizes. The DS decoder explicitly models VRPs of multiple training distribution patterns through multiple auxiliary light decoders, expanding the model representation space to encompass a broader range of distributional scenarios. We conduct extensive experiments on both synthetic and widely recognized real-world benchmarking datasets and compare the performance with seven baseline models. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of using ESF and DS decoder to obtain a more generalizable model and showcase their applicability to solve different VRP variants, i.e., travelling salesman problem and capacitated VRP. Notably, our proposed generic components require minimal computational resources, and can be effortlessly integrated into conventional generalization strategies to further elevate model generalization.
