Vision and diverse languages are important information sources in our living world. A model that understands multi-modalities and multi-languages can be applied to a wider range of real-life scenarios. To build such a multimodal and multilingual model, existing works try to ensemble vision-language data from multiple languages in pre-training. However, due to the large number of languages, these works often require huge computing resources and cannot be flexibly extended to new languages. In this work, we propose a Multi-Lingual Acquisition (MLA) framework that can easily empower a monolingual Vision-Language Pre-training (VLP) model with multilingual capability. Specifically, we design a lightweight language acquisition encoder based on state-of-the-art monolingual VLP models. We further propose a two-stage training strategy to optimize the language acquisition encoder, namely the Native Language Transfer stage and the Language Exposure stage. With much less multilingual training data and computing resources, our model achieves state-of-the-art performance on multilingual image-text and video-text retrieval benchmarks.

Cross-network node classification aims to use a labeled source network to classify nodes in an unlabeled target network. Most of the existing cross-network node classification methods learn the network representations by capturing the node neighborhood and train the classifier on these representations. The performance is highly dependent on the high-quality neighborhood in the network. However, in applications, the degree of nodes generally follows a long-tail distribution, i.e., a significant proportion of nodes are tail nodes with sparse neighborhood. It poses a challenge to existing methods. To this end, a structure similarity graph for cross-network node classitication method (SCNC) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the potential links between nodes are predicted with the structural similarity metric to construct structure similarity graph, which can enrich the neighborhood of tail nodes. Then, the embedding representations of the structural similarity graph are learned to capture more neighborhood information. Finally, the adversarial is used to learn the domain invariant representations to address cross-network divergence. Extensive experimental results show that our SCNC outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

Cloud-based AI services offer numerous benefits but also introduce vulnerabilities, allowing for tampering with deployed DNN models, ranging from injecting malicious behaviors to reducing computing resources. Fingerprint samples are generated to query models to detect such tampering. In this paper, we present Intersecting-Boundary-Sensitive Fingerprinting (IBSF), a novel method for black-box integrity verification of DNN models using only top-1 labels. Recognizing that tampering with a model alters its decision boundary, IBSF crafts fingerprint samples from normal samples by maximizing the partial Shannon entropy of a selected subset of categories to position the fingerprint samples near decision boundaries where the categories in the subset intersect. These fingerprint samples are almost indistinguishable from their source samples. We theoretically establish and confirm experimentally that these fingerprint samples' expected sensitivity to tampering increases with the cardinality of the subset. Extensive evaluation demonstrates that IBSF surpasses existing state-of-the-art fingerprinting methods, particularly with larger subset cardinality, establishing its state-of-the-art performance in black-box tampering detection using only top-1 labels. Multi-Scale Semantic Communication for Object Detection: Single and Cross-Domain Scenarios

With the rapid popularity of vision-driven communication applications, object detection has become one of the fundamental techniques for performing practical vision tasks. In traditional communication systems, images are compressed for transmission, reconstructed at the receiver, and then processed by existing object detection algorithms. However, transmitting large amounts of images consumes significant storage and communication resources. To address this challenge, a semantic communication-based image reconstruction scheme has been proposed for object detection, which transmits only the semantic information relevant to image reconstruction. However, this method is prone to losing key information, such as object position and texture details, leading to degraded object detection performance. Additionally, it is sensitive to environmental factors such as weather and lighting, resulting in poor adaptability across multiple scenarios. To address these issues, we propose a multiscale semantic communication framework for object detection that transmits only multi-scale semantic features relevant to the task and employs decoupling at the receiver to separate positional and classification information of target objects without requiring image reconstruction. To improve adaptability across multiple scenarios, we introduce a cross-domain object detection technique that ensures reliable object detection in new scenarios by optimizing the framework’s multi-scale semantic encoder through domain adversarial learning. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed framework achieves mean average precision improvements of 15.4% ~ 38.5% over the traditional communication framework within low to medium signal-to-noise ratio regions in additive white Gaussian noise and Rayleigh fading channels. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Recently, lightweight neural networks with different manual designs have presented a promising performance in single image super-resolution (SR). However, these designs rely on too much expert experience. To address this issue, we focus on searching a lightweight block for efficient and accurate image SR. Due to the frequent use of various residual blocks and attention mechanisms in SR methods, we propose the residual attention search block (RASB) which combines an operation search block (OSB) with an attention search block (ASB). The former is used to explore the suitable operation at the proper position, and the latter is applied to discover the optimal connection of various attention mechanisms. Moreover, we build the modified residual attention network (MRAN) with stacked found blocks and a refinement module. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our MRAN achieves a better trade-off against the state-of-the-art methods in terms of accuracy and model complexity. © 2021 IEEE

Are Large Language Models Really Good Logical Reasoners? A Comprehensive Evaluation and Beyond

Logical reasoning consistently plays a fundamental and significant role in the domains of knowledge engineering and artificial intelligence. Recently, Large Language Models (LLMs) have emerged as a noteworthy innovation in natural language processing (NLP). However, the question of whether LLMs can effectively address the task of logical reasoning, which requires gradual cognitive inference similar to human intelligence, remains unanswered. To this end, we aim to bridge this gap and provide comprehensive evaluations in this paper. Firstly, to offer systematic evaluations, we select fifteen typical logical reasoning datasets and organize them into deductive, inductive, abductive and mixed-form reasoning settings. Considering the comprehensiveness of evaluations, we include 3 early-era representative LLMs and 4 trending LLMs. Secondly, different from previous evaluations relying only on simple metrics (e.g., accuracy), we propose fine-level evaluations in objective and subjective manners, covering both answers and explanations, including answer correctness, explain correctness, explain completeness and explain redundancy. Additionally, to uncover the logical flaws of LLMs, problematic cases will be attributed to five error types from two dimensions, i.e., evidence selection process and reasoning process. Thirdly, to avoid the influences of knowledge bias and concentrate purely on benchmarking the logical reasoning capability of LLMs, we propose a new dataset with neutral content. Based on the in-depth evaluations, this paper finally forms a general evaluation scheme of logical reasoning capability from six dimensions (i.e., Correct, Rigorous, Self-aware, Active, Oriented and No hallucination). Out-of-Distribution Generalization on Graphs via Progressive Inference

The development and evaluation of graph neural networks (GNNs) generally follow the independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) assumption. Yet this assumption is often untenable in practice due to the uncontrollable data generation mechanism. In particular, when the data distribution shows a significant shift, most GNNs would fail to produce reliable predictions and may even make decisions randomly. One of the most promising solutions to improve the model generalization is to pick out causal invariant parts in the input graph. Nonetheless, we observe a significant distribution gap between the causal parts learned by existing methods and the ground-truth, leading to undesirable performance. In response to the above issues, this paper presents GPro, a model that learns graph causal invariance with progressive inference. Specifically, the complicated graph causal invariant learning is decomposed into multiple intermediate inference steps from easy to hard, and the perception of GPro is continuously strengthened through a progressive inference process to extract causal features that are stable to distribution shifts. We also enlarge the training distribution by creating counterfactual samples to enhance the capability of the GPro in capturing the causal invariant parts. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed GPro outperforms the state-of-the-art methods by 4.91% on average. For datasets with more severe distribution shifts, the performance improvement can be up to 6.86%. 1 © 2025, CC BY.

Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KAN) is an emerging neural network architecture in machine learning. It has greatly interested the research community about whether KAN can be a promising alternative of the commonly used Multi-Layer Perceptions (MLP). Experiments in various fields demonstrated that KAN-based machine learning can achieve comparable if not better performance than MLP-based methods, but with much smaller parameter scales and are more explainable. In this paper, we explore the incorporation of KAN into the actor and critic networks for offline reinforcement learning (RL). We evaluated the performance, parameter scales, and training efficiency of various KAN and MLP based conservative Q-learning (CQL) on the the classical D4RL benchmark for offline RL. Our study demonstrates that KAN can achieve performance close to the commonly used MLP with significantly fewer parameters. This provides us an option to choose the base networks according to the requirements of the offline RL tasks. © 2024, CC BY.

In industry 4.0/5.0, Smart manufacturing systems are typically complex systems that can be adjusted to deal with demand fluctuation through reconfigurable software/hardware. The emergence of digital twin as enabler technology can promote the operation efficiency of smart manufacturing systems. However, the modelling processes of digital twin of smart manufacturing systems is inefficient due to their complicated structures in general. Besides, the frequent reconfiguration of smart manufacturing systems and the differentiation among smart manufacturing systems will increase the burden of digital twin modelling. Therefore, a reconfigurable modelling method for digital twin of smart manufacturing systems is proposed in this paper. First, a reconfigurable modelling framework based on open architecture is proposed to provide basic model scenario for digital twin of smart manufacturing systems. Second, the reconfiguration of digital twin is elaborated from three dimensions, including reconfigurable virtual model, reconfigurable mapping, and reconfigurable scene.
